You think that's bad? What about those stone hammers or stone axes that they can make?

"Guaranteed not to break and hit you in the face from recoil! Probably."

1007
There are smelter reactions for casting both Iron and Steel mechanisms. But due to the thing that smelter-created goods don't get crafting bonus, they will always be base-quality.

1008
We'd need an underground watersource before we can do a tower-cap farm. And those are only around mountain regions, so we're out of luck by that aspect.

I say we do that, but screw the potential elvish diplomatic penalties. It'd be only one caravan, I've had a bunch of those killed in a row, but the elves never really came back with revenge. Only when their sacred trees were murdered.

Also, diplomats from them show up when nobles do, I recall.
And since there are no dwarves around, there will be no nobles save for a mayor in a very distant future. No nobles, no elf diplomats, no treefall-caps.

It's a win-win situation!

And now, something of slight value.

Entry **********

Dear friend, I just don't get it.

I try to act like a dwarf, they stray away.
I cut my beard and try to act like a human, they stray away.

I come up with a plan to save us all, they flock around me and call me their savior.

Then a while later, when I was fixing this or that, it fell faster and stronger than I expected and I was knocked out. And what do I hear as I'm coming to?

"Oh... Jesus has been knocked unconscious. Never mind."

At times, I envy Digit. He had the luck to die before his torment here became too great. Arcayna has been slowly slipping, and if things don't suddenly improve around here, which I am not entirely sure about, she's gonna kick it off.

But I must be strong! Sure, building the ship is going to take a lot of work, most of which will be done by me from the looks of it*unintelligent scribbling, possibly insults or self-praise*-and I tell you, they're going to be running around like scared rabbits once we leave!

"Oh no, the ship isn't producing enough power to operate!"
"WE'RE GONNA CRASH!"
"WE'RE GONNA DIE!"

And then in chorus, they will shout "SAVE US JESUS!"
And I'll put that gear back in place.

Oh, it'll be glorious.
Well, that's my break over. I'm going back to work now.
Only you, and that single moment in the future, are keeping me sane.

Minor animal-related report due to new fort.

Phantom Ape's move on the verge of collapse. Red cross flashes on them constantly, I can't remember what it meant again, but anyway, they don't have any wounds, yadda yadda yadda. Possibly no throat? Or is it just not listed on the bodyparts ingame?

Wolf Ant Larvae have the same problem.

1011
Yes. Yes the 5FINGERS should be there.
But not in mine. I have no idea why.
Must have been messing with files again, and copy&paste'd the wrong ones. Stupid me. Well, that's one issue once again made clear. Although I recall I've done this same thing a few times already with this mod.

I'm too used to nuking both objects folders when it comes to mods.

I had an artifact reference to Cacame.
It was exquisite.

Then my savegame died. : (
Seriously, it's mindboggling. This time, I could load up the game, but when I try to unpause, BAM.

It was during a human siege. Remind me again, how likely it is that something the human's brought with them, as clothing, is bugged and killed my superfort? And this was after I purged data/objects too.

Also slink, my mistake, sis. *thumbs up*

EDIT: Right, time to load up on the new version of this thing and check out errors. And here we go!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

1013
Oh snaps, that's right!
Forgot about that small detail.

EDIT: There we go, works as it should. Thanks bro. *thumbs up*

EDIT2: This suddenly made me realize, thanks to the huge selection of plants, and the existence of plants like growable trees, are there many others like them, which need a smelter to do whatever? Oh god, now I need to check.

1014
Well, it took a long time, but finally my tower-cap timber grew tall enough to be ready to get converted into logs!

Except I can't do that. The reaction is there, but for some reason, it's not showing up in the smelters. I'm not sure if the same applies to all of the grown trees or just tower-caps.

The times I've seen my champs suddenly cease their slaughter and run around like a bunch of sissies happened immediately after they took a casualty or two.

It's mildly amusing, annoying, and even sad because when running, they only start fighting back after an enemy attacks them. At times, this means after they've been stabbed in the kidney with a spear or something.

At least they eventually get their act together and attack like normal.

I would also imagine that the skill of the enemy affects their fear. Against a bunch of axemen and so on, there rarely happens a case of scaredypants, but if an axe lord chops off the head of the squad leader as the first thing that happens upon contact with enemy, shit goes down.

1016
Yeah. I learned that the hard way as well.
Gnoll steel is the way to go, it's cheap, and works.

It's from some guy's mod, who apparently at some point set the metal to have such low melting temps, that whenever anyone sets down a tool or a craft made of the material from the merchant wagons, they immediately melt down.

It doesn't really do any damage, unless you embarked with negathic-made chisels or axes. If you did, sucks to be you.

So, my glorious fort met great misfortune today.

One of my starter seven got a mood, a legendary miner/engraver demanded that along rock and other various things, she required logs.

We're in the middle of a siege. The indoor tree-farm's haven't brought up a single log-worthy tree over a season.

Needless to say, she snapped as result. Melancholy hit, and she climbed on one of my towers, and leaped down.

I noticed when I saw the following announcement.

Messthos Roldethlokum, Baby has died after colliding with an obstacle.

She jumped down with her baby.
She survived, to attempt suicide again.

God speed, Vucar.

Dabbling miner!?

My dwarf is having serious identity issues. He isn't human enough to be one, and even his brethren have started to doubt his sanity! Shaving his beard, I'll say.

To ease his troubled mind, there was but one thing to do. Dig a hole in the ground with his BEAR HANDS and cradle down there. In the dark. In the safety.

Oh the dwarfmanity!

If the guy is resting though, he won't even drop the gear, right?

At least I recall my wounded soldiers hang onto their gear like it's the only thing keeping them alive. Mark the objects to be dumped, and reclaim 'em immediately after.

Do I remember wrong when I seem to remember that the dual-wielding of shield and weapon is related to wrestling with all gear on before issuing orders to wield weapons? Like, two guys spar, one guy wrestles the shield off the other one and then carries it around like he owns it. Then when you tell him to take a weapon, he does the only thing sensible. Pick the weapon with the same hand he already has the shield with.
