To me the trans rights feels a lot more bitter than the LGB rights is the thing.

I genuinely think this is because we basically don't have any offline infrastructure. There are no "trans bars" and we get most of the hate and less of the support (because there's fewer of us). Basically nothing where we have somewhere to go where we're pretty sure that nobody will hurt us.

OUT OF THE CLOSETS AND INTO THE STREETS

... we have been fighting this battle for a long fucking time. the fight has been partially made invisible by the loss of a generation due to AIDS, but we have always been here, resisting. and turning it out!

Eyebrow slit can be the remnant of brow-piercing, which in AFABs is usually a queer signal and has probably spread out to femmes in general... or so I perceive it.

I can see that this turned again into the cis people arguing about trans people thread. I literally thought it was AmeriPol for a minute.

Yeah, it should be rotated so that 田 is on top and the other one is on bottom (rotate 90 degrees left). That's because the left-hand radical in the character presently on the left only ever appears in kanji under the 90 degree rotation. It is a 5-stroke kanji.

Other evidence for rotation includes: characteristic slant on what would be the right hand slide of 田 caused by standard orthography, red background paint clearly starts at the current right and goes left, would expect to go from up to down or left to right.

Right, although the 田 having a line extending through the top as though it were 由 from 経由 is also... unusual...

The vase is definitely Japanese or faux-Japanese, trying to give an impression of Japaneseness (clothing and hair of the people in the scene), although the color and shape seem very strange to me.

For the writing, here are some possibilities for the name: 田代 or 田付. However... 1. Both of these are on the unusual side of things, not names I've ever encountered before and 2. I don't recognize the second character and the pip is in the wrong place for both of the names that I mentioned above, additionally putting the pip to the lower right makes the character "unbalanced" 3. This isn't a stylization of Japanese writing that I'm especially familiar with.

My qualifications: JLPT N2

Recommendation: Check at the Wanikani forums, they have people who know a lot more than I do and who will be motivated to help.

Health insurance for my leave has been confirmed. This is the biggest fucking weight off of my neck because I'm going on leave due to health issues and the specialists I need to see would have been outrageously expensive otherwise. Ugh. Thank fuck

The statement acknowledges that this has caused terrible harm to the persons involved.
The association hopes that their statement will support people who are coping with trauma.

I'm not Dutch and I appreciate, a lot, that this was done. Relieved

I would say that anyone who owns three or more residential properties, or a business larger than a mom n pop store, or any commercial property which they rent to others, or whose stock investments allow them to stop working well before age 65 without penalty; or whose holdings allow their children to never have to work.

Frustrated. A bunch of wingnuts are calling to ban all gun sales to trans people based on the recent shooting. Between that and the registries shit is getting stressful.

(I am not a 2A fan, but banning sales of weapons or land based on group status, rather than individual behavior, is one of those... red flags).

If you want a less encouraging version, that means you have to be rejected by around 99 people before you can find one of those 79M.

They find me attractive, they'll come near. The losers and the haters will stay away uwu

Honestly, that's a very reassuring way of thinking about things, LOL.

Life Advice / Vector Plays Rest and Self-Recovery Challenge
« on: March 26, 2023, 05:16:08 pm »
As it says in the thread title, I'm going off of work (my PhD program) for six months following some health problems and burnout. The past three years have been a nonstop trauma conga after five years of nonstop workplace hustle where I took at most one day off per month and school is, uh, well, whatever. They're not exactly being constructive.

I have pretty much never had a true-blue rest or leave or whatever, and I want to document what it's like and what kinds of things I learn. I'm from a rural family that has survived on its ability to scrimp, save, and simply be more durable than other people. You don't do anything for your mental health other than your morning cup of coffee and a look at the sunset or going inside to play backgammon in the hot part of the day. You certainly don't take a day off, or a week off, or half a year.

And yet, at time of writing I have found my limit.

Mending and other little maintenance things have piled up and up and up, I've been struggling to eat normally for more than eight months (honestly, since March 2020, but it's worse lately), I'm having multiple migraines each week and have sat sobbing in many parking lots in town ... and lately my heart has started feeling ... off.

(All that, and with the situation facing trans people, I want to spend some time having fun while the getting's good)

So yours truly is going to accept the challenge of spending six months as a NEET in the Sacramento area and see where it leads me. I expect to write a post about once per week and see how it goes.
