My win over Vox seems to have been made of pure dorf.  How long did I survive after diving in?
Oh, and another point in axedwarf, and I'll take that gauntlet.  Also, since I have a pike rusting in my inventory, I'll bet it on Urist MacLeod slaughtering Feelf.

Hate to break it but you can't decline, those are the accords of a duel. I will provide the pikes though, the material is up to Remalle.
Well, I was going to insist we use the pikes in our inventories  8) .  I'm going to accept Vox's amendment, though; weaponless it is.

You can force a prisoner to be released into a pit by building a wall over the pit, building the cage on top of the wall, linking the cage to a lever, then deconstructing the wall.  This leaves the cage suspended over open space over the pit, and when you pull the lever the prisoner should fall into the pit.
And this works?

Vox:  I accept your challenge (missed it the first time round).  Tradition says as the challenged I get to set the weapons used for our duel; I say we fight with pikes.  The polearms, not the fish.

Alright, apparently I've won another battle (for the betters, when did that happen) and a bar of... pitchblende.  Also, apparently I can upgrade my equipment.  Well... another point in shield user for now, and Kzel didn't have anything I want so I'll pass on looting the corpse.

Edit:  Actually, if I take his iron pike, can I trade that and my iron helm in for a steel helm?

It might be that you designated the dump zone on level ground.  You're supposed to have it next to at least a 1z drop so your dwarves can actually dump it.

I know you can't sleep while flying, I've know that from having adventures alt-move onto empty space that had no pit under it.
Creatures that can't normally fly that can act in the "flying" state can't do anything but move back to solid ground.

I meant wake up from sleep, not unconsciousness.  Also, the z-level cap depends on the region you're in, and the natural z-level variance; I'm not sure if it's the same cap as in Fortress mode.  In 40d you could go a few z-levels above the natural "top" ground layer in a region, so in mountainous areas you could fly higher above the ground if not above the peak of the mountain itself, but I haven't modded much in DF2010 so I don't know how much has changed there.

You only die if you'd die from that fall anyway, otherwise you get woken from sleep or unaffected (at 1z) or damaged (progressively every z after that).
