General Discussion / Re: Tenga Fliphole Onacup
« on: September 04, 2009, 04:18:02 pm »
I do not get what is so weird or disturbing about this thing. Sex toys for women are OK and sophisticated sex toy for men is "a deamon artifact and should be burned"?

Speaking objectively, this one is disturbing.  Partly is just the amount of detail, which is unnerving in itself because someone (or probably a group of someones) spent a lot of time designing the thing.  Moreso, it's that "cervix" doodad, which as pointed out, is normally biologically impossible, and suggests that this thing was designed to emulate a uterine duct about four inches long.

Basically, it's not so much the device itself, as all the implications behind it's creation.

The fact someone spent a lot of time designing the thing is disturbing? Well if I ever decide to buy a sex toy I will definitely choose some well designed.

As for the cervix part - I agree with Ai Shizuka. This is not designed to be realistic. (just look at design of some dildos and vibrators ... they can be very disturbing, look nothing like the real thing and still be very popular due their qualities)

What is the difference between dildo and flashlight? Or butplug and dildo for men? I do not get it.

What aboout the trap types? Since it can detect buildings and traps are treated as buildings, maybe something can be made for them.

The weapon traps should be easy enough, although there should be some variety. Not sure about the cage traps. If the stone fall traps are inside or under a floor, I can see how those would be done, but what about those that are outside with no floor or whatever above them?

Model is not a huge problem - simple wooden construction holding hanging stone (quite obvious trap, but ...). What could be worse is detecting if there is floor above.

DF Bug Reports / Re: Very slow DF because Xorg uses 90% of CPU [ubuntu]
« on: September 02, 2009, 01:50:18 pm »
I am not sure this is DF problem. I had to reinstall new Ubuntu because of this. Xorg just went crazy after updating and it had nothing to do with DF.

+70 points if you destroy an artifact.
+10 points if the creator goes berserk.
+5 for every dwarf he kills while berserk.

Cheating by dumping in chasm allowed?

I see you were thinking about it a lot. However you are forgeting some things.

In grass, swamp, etc areas is good idea to dedicate one or more dwarves to herbalism from the very begining. You can find some plants from that you can make cloth or eat them and then make a little outdoor farm. It is certainly a safer way to get food and material from crafts than from hunting.

If you start near chasm or cave or are just lucky, you can get spider silk to work with.

IIRC you can strip your dwarves and sell all their stuff to traders. And if you do not mind using some not really fair techniques, you can strip and then rob traders.

I am not sure what you need to build magma glass forge, but I think it is possible to build it even without a pick or an axe. You might need to wrestle magma man for ashes (which is very dangerous but possible), but if you can do it than this would solve all your problems.

And lastly, there is not a much discussion about this kind of challenge because we already did it. I myself started one topic, after me there were at least two another and I organized "2 years wealth contest". It was basicaly the same challenge played for 2 years on nice map and player with most created wealth (without artifacts) won. teta made his dwarves create wealth with mind blowing price tag, over two millions dwarfbucks.

For personal use I find dropbox very comfortable. If you want bigger storage I would recommend running encrypted NAS at home (if you have good internet connection).

DF Modding / Re: Viasualizer based on descriptions. [PROPOSAL]
« on: August 13, 2009, 07:04:59 am »
Someone on this forum already started working on this. He (or she) made a java program, that can draw one dwarf or group of dwarves based on description on DF format (it however could not read data from DF memory). Program is capable of drawing dwarves of differnent heights, skin, hair and eyes colors, handles clothing, armor and weapons.

DF Modding / Re: Your worst/hilarious modding disasters.

some mods got their wires crossed, and I wound up with a nameless creature whose leather ended up being very popular (written as "   leather").
However, any clothing made form this beast's leather would spontaneously boil when it entered my map! Anyone caught in the cloud of boiling leather would then FREEZE to death!
it caused great fun.
I have pics, I'll post them later.

This sounds incredible

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Artificial lake fishing

Once again thank you for answers.

I seems I have already depleted resources in that area, so I will leave it there and wait.

DF Gameplay Questions / Artificial lake fishing
« on: August 07, 2009, 07:45:24 am »
Hi,
I made small artificial lake in my fortress with water from underground river. I've read the article about fishing on wiki and I have several questions.

Will my dwarves catch something even if the lake is not connected to river?
Can my dwarves fish so much they will destroy the fish population in my cistern?
Can this population be restored by changing water?

Thank you.

I am slowly working on this:
http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-6623-minedceiling

I am pleased with speed of mining. Big part of interiors is mined out and I am slowly moving everything inside. However I lost 2 dwarves due to incidents with magma (one fallen in pipe and second "dodged" there when runing away from groundhog).

Glass industry is slowly starting and in a few months I will start replacing stone courtyard's floor with clear glass one.

I was not yet ambushed (second year so...) but I worry a bit due to lack of military. Maybe some traps to be sure. Right now the limit of 50 dwarves is set, I want to make sure everything is running nice before luring a baron.

There is also one unpleasant thing - I get no liason, so my fort will have to be a little more self-sustaining.

DF General Discussion / Re: Fat Dwarfs
« on: August 05, 2009, 01:36:37 am »
I'm going to lock a dwarf into a single tile so he can't even move, then dump mounds of food on him and see how fat I can make him get.

Hope you get him as fat as the halfling king in Overlord..Melvin I think his name was.

If he then gains roll attack, I will make every single champion obscenely obese.
