Hey guys,
just want to remind you that you have last week to post your saves. Until now I have only 2 saves posted.

I know that some of you feel that they have no chance - it is not true! You can get huge modifier from achievements and if there are more contestants, there could be some special awards.

At the start of game I tend to use floodgates as doors/traps. Usually you will need them later when building all those wells, drowning chambers, showers. It works great with first siege.

Enough of this insanity!

Has anybody tried stupid coal trick with charcoal or bitumous coal? I know that charcoal burns long ... really looong. But does it burn longer as lignite?

Also does burning object (for example leather) burn longer when in bin or it does not matter?

This must've been asked many times, what's the exact use of the artifact itself. I mean the item if it's, say, a maple scepter?

You can still use artifact as object. If it is a barrel, it will serve as a barrel. It gives good thoughts to dwarves. Artifact furniture will pump up quality of rooms to sky-high values. And artifact weapons have crazy damage modifier.

DF Modding / Re: How to make obsidian magma-proof?
« on: February 28, 2009, 05:19:36 am »
Obsidian can survive in magma ... sometimes. Melting temperature of obsidian is between 940 and 1080 degrees of Celsius and temperature of magma is between 700 and 1300 degrees. Therefore obsidian stones will suvive in some magma pools and will not in another ones.

I belive, that if obsidian is or is not magma proof is problem of preferences of player.

Actually there's almost no difference between goblins and snaga (lesser orcs). The LOTR even has "The Great Goblin" which was the name of an orc-ruler of a "goblin town" of orcs. They are the same species, however bigger orcs (like Uruk-Hai) were never called goblins.

At least because Uruk-Hai were homunkuli.

I'll take Lor as an insane dwarf, with backstory to come.

Mad dwarves wont be coming till the first immigration, would you like to wait for one or stay as Lor the miner?

And I probably should have mentioned earlier, in fact i'll edit it in right after this, but the mad dwarves will not be part of the working community and will in fact be locked away in their own section of the fort. Some may perhaps be rehabilitated and set free but for the most part they will be quarantined away from the main fort. Their main dialog will be with the guards.

With Lor pending, Astesh the farmer is still open.

I can not speak for others, but I am OK with fact IŽll be locked in a cell.

DF Suggestions / Re: Iron Pyrite

You would be surprised how you can make almost anything beautiful with the right techniques.

My only issue with an Aestetic modifier is it should be a subjective matter. (well part Subjective... If everyone thinks Onyx is their favorite... then of course people are going to charge more)

I mean... Aluminum looks pretty much like Iron or Steel and yet was used as expensive jewelry

I was just trying to say that you should not be surprised to not find material imitations in game when there is no aesthetic value of object or when it is substituted by material value.

Of course you can make something beautiful out of almost nothing and something disgusting out of gold and platinum. However dwarf (or kobold or whoever in this game) will like more adamantine poop than statue of David from microline simply because he has no aesthetics feeling.

If aesthetics gets implemented, then yes - I too would love to see imitations of materials, paste jewellery, etc.

Dwarves like expensive stuff. Bringing fool's gold or cheap fake materials for decorations would mean to implement not only material value (that we have now) but also aesthetic value. Otherwise this has no practical use. Objects decorated with cheap materials without aesthetic value implementation will be not as good as those with rare and ugly materials.

I know, it only used 1 item lol so it has spikes of...itself?

I could be something like ... he took stone and carved negative spikes in it. So at the end there is this chrysoprase and it menaces with spikes. It weights a little less but is significantly more dwarven.
