DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Creating Volcanoes

If I remember corectly, there are natural active volcanos in game - when magma pipe and bottomles pit intersect, bug forces magma to rapidly overflow.

they might not need to be temp immune if they are fast enough. you just need legendary mason put up a wall right on the spot where it is. though to save masons of high level first test with regular masons.

in that case you could pul blocks on place, set them on fire, forbid them, claim one, build one wall on same place, clame another one, another wall, repeat

You'd need temp-immune dwarves to do that, but I'm interested in seeing the results.

Or just set them on fire and ther turn temp off?

Please, I would like to have one dwarf (immigrant):

The Mad Dwarf

Name: Wilbur
Profession: Any non-military, must start as peasant
Gender: Male
Story: Wilbur was born to crippled mother and unknown father. He quickly growed and gained strenght. After few years he began with studies of dark creatures and megabeasts. He was especialy impressed by one book written by half-crazed dwarf from east. Book described unspeakable horrors and Wilbur lost all his sanity when trying reading it. However he was unable to fully understand his translated copy so he seeked for copy in original language. This extremely rare book was only in few libraries. Wilbur broke in one and stole it. Dog attacked him when he was trying to escape. He managed to overmaster dog, faked his own death and escaped. Now, completely mad, he wanders in wilds and seeks refuge where he could peacefuly study his book.

P.S. please excuse my poor language skill

Zombie discrimination is one of the least discussed social ills in this country.  I chair an advocacy group dedicated to fighting unfair stereotypes about the undead.

Which part of his facial structure says "African" to you, though?  I don't see any of the hallmarks, myself.  Honestly, though, I wasn't really paying attention to anything but getting the planes and values to look right, so something unintended may have crept in.

This reminds me affair about new Resident evil. Killing tons of europian zombies is all right but when you make african zombies, you are racist. Fun.

Before I try to answer your question - awesome topic name!

To the water problem. If you have soil, you can grow plants and brew drinks from them. Water is needed only for harmed ones, those in jail and sometimes for military guys. Healthy dwarves do not need water to survive - they will be actually sad if you force them to drink water and not alcohol.

Does this help?
I should probably mention that I'm using the orcs as well?  I don't know if that matters

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Thank you. As far as I know, orcs will cause only difference in history, so site should still have all geographical features

I can not find answer for this - some things in game float, right? But lots of things can not. Can you cheat on it by placing those items in wooden bins? Is it possible to build water elevator?

If we got the worldgen info we  could just generate it again with different history... much easier to simply post the parameters and seed info than to upload a save.

DO IT!
seriously - this is great spot, would LOVE to embark there - please, post your seeds

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Your Epic Dining Rooms
« on: February 23, 2009, 11:46:51 am »
I tend to do something simillar. Only I make table rows horizontal and I place statues not only in corners but all around the room. Everything is engraved and I slowly replace every non-master furniture.

You can try supports and then channel them out, so as to create a controlled collapse. But, if there's any dug out areas beneath where it'll collapse then it'll go clean through. I made a noble torture chamber that way once, though by accident. Better than one time I basically drilled a hole 17 Z levels deep by collapsing a section of ground.

I have bad experience with controled collapses. Time to time miner who digs channel or dwarf that deconstructs floor tend to fall down.

You know you will have to build walls around your fortress, do not you? When lake defreezes, it would instantly flood everything you have builded.
