Yeah, it has to be 40d#, not 40d. For instance, I'm running 40d6, but I think the latest is 40d9, or something. You'll find them on the dev page rather than the main download page.
Anything older only supports BMPs.

But I can not make it run? Do I have to do something more than just copying it in art folder and changing font name in init? Everything I see now is black screen.

In my last fort (started today, ended today) I accidentaly deconstructed trade depot when traders were still standing on it. Immidiately my dwarves started to store all goods traders have brought. And they just stand there and cry "we need trade depot to unload our goods". And then dwarf who failed to make artifact went berserk.

What would happen if I just deconstructed depot, stole all goods and let traders wait and eventualy leave? Would they be angry?

Hehe, sounds very funny - I will try this at my next fortress catastrophy. There is one thing about magma flood that amuses me. When dwarf steps in magma or magma spreads so that dwarf catch fire, burning dwarf runs through fortress, directly in his bed, and there slowly burns to death in his smoke filled bedroom.

I am not sure - once I tried to flood my fort with magma. I channeled some from magma pipe to my dining hall/meeting area.
Magma flows sloooooow. So slow that when it was spreading across my dining room, it took certain space and evaporated so quickly it could not spread more. Dwarves and puppies were just chilling right next to magma puddle. Circa every month one dwarf or kitten get caught by magma and burned. But legendary dining room beated all those bad thoughts.

In my last fort I sealed entrance with a bridge. All my fort died because of its stupid placement:

v - downward stairway
^ - upward stairway
F - finished goods store for trade

Goblins attack, so I order "Pull the switch!". Bridge raises, everything is fine and suddenly dwarves start to die from bleeding. As my dwarves stored goods, they became practice targets of goblins standing above them. Few died, then tantrum spiral.

1) dig chamber
2) lure your enemies on bridge over it
3) lock them with well HIDDEN switch
4) throw them down to your FUN chaber
5) let them fight with some nasty STUFF that lives on bottom of your chamber

You can't make a certain barrel accept only drink.  However, you can make separate stockpiles for your food and drink, and limit the number of barrels in your food stockpile.  I also recommend making a separate stockpile for seeds and limiting the number of barrels in that.

Limiting use of barrels in seed stockpiles is not so necessary, is it? How many types of seeds will you ever have?

Why?  A lever is one of four basic machines.  It works by being pushed on one end and pushing the opposite way on the other end.  That is its power.

Not the suggested type - this would need no dwarf to control it
