(and Shadowrun doesn't really look like my thing, I haven't heard of it until SR Returns.)

The Shadowrun lore is awesome, even though Shadowrun Returns is decidedly average. In some sense Shadowrun is an inverted M&M, lore-wise. Were both cookies, Shadowrun would be a chocolate chip one with near-future-sci-fi dough and fantasy chocolate chips while M&M would be a full-fantasy cookie, but hidden in the centre is some sci-fi jam or whatever might be hiding in the centre of cookies.

Interesting, I never knew that there was supposed to be a Forge town in Heroes III. I always wondered why there was no mention of the sci-fi part of the universe in Heroes after I had played M&M VII.

I love M&M VII to bits, it's an amazing game. I remember borrowing it from a friend back in the early 2000's and being shit at it and not being able to get off Emerald Island, mostly due to not knowing much English at all. I like M&M VIII as well, even though it's not as good. The dragons are hilariously broken, for example. On the other hand, though; dragon party members.

(The idea of a fart propelled dragon amuses me though, give them a gas bladder in their lower body that they need to fly.  Bonus points if instead of breathing fire they use that to produce a cloud of nausea inducing gas "breath")

See Errol, of Discworld fame.

Come to think of it, modding in swamp dragons would be hilarious. Small dragon-like creatures whose internal chemistry (which enables their fire breathing) is so volatile that when they get indigestion or are disturbed in some way they violently explode. Think of all the fun that could be had!

What is this i49 they keep talking about? I gather it's some sort of convention or game conference, but where and when? All google gives is stuff about US highways. :-\

I think the defence is based mostly on population, while attack is based on army size. So a town that has had their army killed will have a much larger defence than attack. The other way around happens when a town is very peaceful but large.

Don't quote me on that, though, I'm not entirely certain.

I work at a science centre over the summer and today I saw a ~13 year old kid with a mullet.

A mullet. One of these.

Truly the world is coming to an end.

More graph, ho!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I was honestly not expecting such a young mean age but that might be me being biased by my own age. At least I'm within one σ with an age of 24, so I can claim that I'm still young without lying too badly. :P

Argh! Surgeon Simulator won, I wanted Primordia. I've been looking at that for a while, it looks like an interesting game. Not a lot of point-and-click adventures around these days, and the story seems interesting. I'll wait until the last day, of course, but if it doesn't go on sale I'll probably buy it at the current 40% off price.

I've been looking slightly in the direction of Dust: An Elysian Tail, mostly because the art looked vaguely interesting. Does anyone have an opinion on the actual game?

From this thread, my review, comparing it to Aquaria (the reason I bought it was because I got a very Aquaria-like impression from the art and trailers):

Ah, thank you. I'll sleep on it I think.

I can't find this thread you're referencing, search for dust elysian yields six results, three of which are this thread (Just dust yields hundreds of results). Do you have a link, perchance?

Did anyone poke around in the keystroke-recognition code between the last website version (windoes, SDL) and 0.6 because the game no longer recognizes alt-key characters. Some elaboration: I use a Swedish keyboard layout which has certain keys that cataclysm uses mapped to alt+key combinations. This includes characters such as @ and \, which are mapped to alt + 2 and alt + +, respectively. The current website windows SDL version no longer recognizes these, which makes the game pretty annoying to play since inventory items mapped to those keys are impossible to interact with. The problem cropped up somewhere between 0.6 (Samedi) and the current version, just tested both and Samedi works just fine.

I guess I could just switch keyboard layout when I want to play, but that would be highly annoying.

It sounds like this commit https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/commit/c1f2c34695700cac2759a0816437ede757365eb3 might be problematic, it adds Alt+num handling, but I imagine that would interfere with other methods of character input.  Can you give http://ci.narc.ro/job/Cataclysm-Win32-SDL/109/artifact/cataclysmdda-0.6.zip a try and let me know if that works?  If so that's definitely the issue.  Also that's the latest version before the change, so if my guess is right you can play that one until we get it sorted out.

I filed an issue about this at https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/issues/1994, if you're interested you can follow it thare.

Sorry for taking so long to answer this, has been without internet access for a couple of days.

The build you linked does indeed work, so it seems like you've identified the problem. Thank you!

what about adding shields?

Yeah, I've thought about this too. We could have everything from home-made shields made from 2-by-4's to riot shields and even high-tech military energy shields. A riot shield would definitely be a good thing to have in a zombie apocalypse. Riot shield in one hand, handgun in the other, proceed to murderize Z's. Or go full medieval on them with plate-mail, kite shield and morningstar.

...  You'll also want something to protect you from the rain, like a raincoat, blanket, or (my preferred) Fur Trench Coat.

-Snip-

My favourite for this is the wool poncho. 35 warmth and thus protects from rain and if fitting has -1 torso encumbrance. A fitting tank-top + trenchcoat + backpack + poncho will net 0 torso encumbrance, IIRC.
