I just found a military mess kit on my latest character. Unfortunately, it's a bit smashed up by whatever killed the soldier whose body I got it from. Now, it being damaged does not make it any worse, as far as I can tell, but it'd be nice to repair it none the less. I cannot, however, find what tool to use for the repairs. It is made of superalloy and kevlar which made me guess at a soldering iron but it doesn't work. Neither does a basic repair kit.

Does anyone know if it is even possible to repair these and if so, what tool do I need?

Encumbrance is calculated by (sum of every clothing encumbrance value) + ((number of items worn/2) - 1) I believe.

So if you have a tank top (fits), trenchcoat (fits), backpack, and MBR vest (kevlar) (fits), your encumbrance would be (0+ 0 + 1 + 1) + ((4/2) - 1) = 3 total encumbrance. I don't have that gear handy right now so... someone correct me if I'm wrong?

Generally lower is better until  you're an unstoppable murder machine that can soak the skill penalties for fighting in heavier stuff. Practice, practice, practice!

I think that is the old encumbrance system. Old in the meaning that it's still the case in 0.A, but not in the newer experimentals, mind you.

The new system is somewhat based on layers, I believe, so that you cannot wear two fanny packs, a tool belt and a runner pack for a grand total of 1 torso encumberance. So far I've noticed that in that example you would get one encumbrance for each item beyond the first in the 'belted layer', which all of those are in, for a grand total of 3 torso encumbrance. You can, however, wear a trenchcoat and a t-shirt without encumbrance since those are in other layers while they would have added one in the old system. I'm not quite sure how many layers there are, but I think there's three: skin-tight, normal and belted.

I got it trying to find a new wallpaper on Deviantart. Luckily, the file names from there has the artist in them! Here you go.

Now that I look at his other pictures, there seems to be a few other cool ones in there as well.

So in my ever evolving efforts to STAHP HAVING 8 BILLION TORSO ENCUMBRANCE, SERIOUSLY WTF... I think I have come to a solution that lets me retain not-die-ability with storage space while fitting the parameters.

Incidentally, what all do you need to build a shopping cart from scratch? Tools/Skills/Materials wise? I know you need four casters and a wire basket, do you also need a frame? Is there some way to build a Bionic Prepper to construct one immediately, using the stuffs in the starting shelter?

I don't think you can, without modding. Mostly because you can't craft casters, but if that's modded in you'd have to use a box rather than a wire basket since the shelter does not give wires which require forging tools to make. You could use a box instead, but then you'd have to make a full steel frame which also needs a crucible as a tool.
Do you really need the casters, though? Can't you just drag a basket around?

I guess it's possible, but one filled with tinned food or whatever might be difficult to drag around for a low-strength dude.

So, in short, I don't think you can conceivably make something like a shopping cart from only the shelter materials.

...can we add that as a feature

areas which increase your default encumbrance due to "increased gravity" or whatever the hell you figure out as a decent name

thing is everything's encumbrance would need to be increased

This sounds cool! How about only increasing item weight or equivalently, lowering player max carried weight. It would be easier, mechanics and balancing wise. Plus, you could make reversed areas of low gravity very easily as well.

In the experimental, I believe hackpro software can be used to craft a "control laptop". According to the description it allows you to control robots but I have no idea if it actually works.

You can train mechanics in other ways than building vehicles and reading. Lockpicking and prying things open trains mechanics a little bit, IIRC.

Illiterate is hilarious for RP, though. Make a character with as low intelligence as you can and jack up strength all the way and name him Slab McBeefcake or something similar. Proceed to purée zombies with a nail bat for as long as you can manage.

Yeah, at least they're actually pretty good lines.

Cf. the horrible Skyrim lines: "Do you come to the cloud district often? Oh no, how stupid of me, of course you don't."

Don't feel like cheese? That excuse has more holes than this fine gorgombert!

You're right, hence my edit :P

This perhaps?

But yeah, probably something more along the lines of this. Something similar could probably be made with plutonium, which is what radioactive material the game currently has, and something phosphorescent.

EDIT: Now that I read a bit more, it seems that usually it's beta-deyacing materials being used for illumination, which plutonium is not. Unless it's 241Pl which is a synthetic isotope not found naturally. I suppose the plutonium cells ingame could be this, in which case we could build smoke detectors from the 241Am resulting from the decay! Yay, nuclear physics!

So, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) is holding a public naming of well-characterised exoplanets. More info is available on the site they will be using for the vote.

I was a bit worried at what they've gotten themselves into when I first read this. However, when reading the rules it seems as though they have taken good measures to ensure that 4-chan trolls and script kiddies get to pick names with huge botnets. It is done mainly by only allowing "public astronomical organisations (such as Planetariums, Science Centres, Amateur Astronomy Clubs, Online Astronomy platforms) or non-profit astronomy-interested organisations (such as High schools, Cultural clubs) with a proven interest in astronomy, (hereafter "organisations" for short) based in any country" to propose names.

Maybe I'll register the astronomy club I'm a member of for this.

I'm using SpeedFan. Rainmeter seems to have the plugin .dll installed by default as far as I can tell, just need to download the SpeedFan program itself.

Finally got a new wallpaper and with it a new Rainmeter launcher setup. Those launcher flaps with icons on the right screen are collapsible and the console one opens my console when right-clicked. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Thanks, already found that and watched some of it. It seems like it could be fun to play with friends, which is the biggest problem. I would have to convince some friends to buy it within the three hours left of the sale. :P
