Also going Caldari, you start closer to Jita which... as much as I hate it you can't beat it for buying stuff.

That really depends on what you are looking for. Jita has everything but as long as you're not looking for billion-isk super-rare faction/officier equipment you'll find pretty much the same prices in the other trade hubs. Some goods even have lower prices in other places.

As for other trade hubs, there is at least one for every empire, and several smaller (with a smaller selection and higher prices) hubs. The main hubs for each empire are:

Amarr: Amarr
Caldari: Jita (There's also a popular mission running system whose name eludes me at the moment)
Gallente: Dodixie
Minmatar: Rens (Hek to a lesser extent)

Races are more of a cosmetic choice these days, everyone gets the same stats. They have different starting skills, but the differences are so minor they might as well not exist. Any race can train and fly any other races' ships so don't worry about that.

My advice is to choose race based on what backstory you like and then research the different races' ships and train whatever race you want to fly early on.

Here's a (very) brief overview of the races backstories and what their ships usually does:

Amarr: Teocratic society, slavery practicers, believes they are bringing the word of god to nonbelievers. Largest empire story-wise, allied with the Caldari. Ships usually use lasers and heavy armour tanks.

Caldari: Corporately controlled society, the mega-corporations own everything. Fond of anything high-tech. Smallest empire story-wise, allied to the Amarr. Their ships use shields for defence, missiles and railguns for offense. They generally have the slowest ships in the game.

Gallente: Space federation, not much more to say. They think they are New Eden's last bastion of liberty and freedom and do not hesitate to spread their ideals. Second largest empire story-wise, allied with the Minmatar. Ships use armour tanks and drones and hybrids (railguns and blasters) for offense.

Minmatar: Tribal newly built society. Were slaves under the Amarr for a long time, rebelled and broke free. Second smallest empire story-wise, allied with the Gallente. Ships use either shield or armour tanks (depending on ship) and both missiles and projectile turrets. Mainly projectile turrets though. Fastest ships in the game, fond of hit-and-run tactics.

This is woefully incomplete, the backstory of Eve is massive, and If you're interested I strongly recommend at least looking at at least some of it. I also think the character creator has some more info on each empire and bloodline.

Terrible apocalypse, to be quite honest. Would not live through again.

This game is a freaking time machine!

1. Get on skype with a few friends and play Terraria.

2. ...?

3. Emerge six hours later wondering where the free time you didn't have went.

No dramatic improvement, I'm afraid. I get 20-30 FPS when not moving very far from one place in multiplayer. It's still playable at extreme lowest settings and 1280x800 resolution and I'm enjoying it, but it'd be more fun if it actually worked at my native resolution.

So that's why I didn't recognize it. I think my attention of 5th gen has totalled something like 10 minutes.

I thought my nerd-fu was getting weak, so I had to know. :P

Update for all ATI users: ATI just released a new driver release candidate (with updated openGL drivers). Steam forums claim it increases performance. I haven't been able to test it myself due to being at uni, but I will as soon as I get home.

Hopefully this fixes things, at least so that the game plays at 30+ FPS constantly...

That's what happens when you ask for requests in a pokemon chat.

Ponymon? :P

I recognize the large one, but what pokémon is the small one?

Well, never let is be said that Splash Damage are a bunch of moneygrubbing bastards. They've announced that the first Brink DLC pack will be free of charge. The only thing they said about a release date is "after PSN goes back up" (read: not in our lifetimes) PSN is back up now. Derp.

Read about it Here.

That's all well and good, now all we need is for them (or ATI) to fix performance on ATI cards. :P

Gah, this is maddening, why won't the game use my graphics card properly! It's using it to 100% in the menu, of all places, to render my character, and then when actually in-game it just stops working properly. Look at this graph, it should speak for itself, I think.

I did try, I even downloaded a small program to alter graphics settings not possible to alter in the game (primarily removing shadows) but I can't go above 30 FPS whatever I do. The game doesn't seem to utilize the graphics card to its fullest, though. I'm using ATI tray tools to monitor GPU activity, and it never goes above 30-40% for some reason. It could be that the output it plots is wrong, but I doubt it.

It might be that my CPU is bottlenecking for some reason, seeing as the game runs slower in single player, when it has to run all AI players as well.

Meh, no appreciable difference, still get 10-20 FPS when playing solo, 20-30 when online. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Hm, maybe I'll try. I have a laptop that needs reformatting anyway, so I can do that simultaneously.

Steam forums suggest catalyst 11.2, I guess I'll try that one.
