Well, the landscape looks infinitely more stylish than the one in Oblivion at least. Also the magic effects look really nice and combat looks heavy and visceral, which looks good. This is assuming this is actually footage of gameplay, though. I mean, the dragon fight is obviously not gameplay footage, but the parts in between seem to be.

Is it just me or is that dragon-fighting guy woefully under dressed for the climate? I know Nords are supposed to be resistant to cold, but still, it looks awkward to me...

Also; weaksauce dragon, it needs to learn about momentum and just push the puny human over the cliff.  ;)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The Future of the Fortress? It is Grim.

In the grim darkness of the future fortress, dwarves wear leather trenchcoats and wield bone crossbows with bone bolts.

Inspiration!

Righteous Rod of Runes: for surviving thunderstorms, accept no substitute!

No, but really, lightning shield usually works pretty well, the problem is just that you need a water shield up as well. Since the rain gets you wet you cannot recast your lightning shield, the water shield prevents this, but keeping two different shields up makes it easy to make mistakes and in a lightning storm mistakes usually makes you end up in small chunks all over the screen.  :P

I played pokémon blue to death back in '99, and so did everyone else in my school. I have some glorious memories of school ground pokémon trading card economy. People even stole each others' cards...

I still have that pokémon blue cartridge for the original gameboy (along with the gameboy itself) lying around somewhere. The save on that one even has a complete (151 pokémon catched) pokédex, and without cheating or glitching! Man I had a lot of free time back then...

slash at him with the sword, when he grabs it, let it go and thrust-kick him, then try to get hold of the platform.

He slashed off our arm, we are no longer in possession of stovebrand.

I vote for thrust kicking directly, use both legs for best effect.

Will Nullify also break the beams that the ghosts cast on me?

Nullify will not only break the beams the ghosts cast, it will break the ghosts themselves.  ;)

The Aristo-staff looks nice on paper, but it's really annoying to use, since the 'resistance to all elements' includes life resistance, making it take an eternity to heal.

I like the Righteous Rod of Runes, from the dwarf priest-mage dudes, since it allows you to survive lightning storms with its lightning immunity aura. The Frost Staff is nice for similar reasons, it lets you spa blizzard constantly. Finally, when playing multiplayer arena, the Staff of the Troll King is amazing, since it makes all the monsters ignore one player who can then blast them with impunity.

For swords, I like the lightsaber Arcane Saber, for the incredible damage and the equally incredible cool factor. The Knife of Counter-striking gets the most-useful-piece-of-equipment award, though.

Vortex is officially awesome. Did you know you can 'recharge' its sucking power using 5x earth shots?

Hmm. Does Blizzard freeze or just cold?

Ok, is anyone free to play on wednesday? I'm glad to join whoever.Co-op is always more fun.

Hey, if my connection isn't too poor maybe you can help me out.

Blizzard applies the cold element on every enemy on (and some off) screen. The effect is exactly the same as if you'd use the cold element on them, that is they get frozen if wet and just colded (?) when not.

For the bridge (or any large outdoor fight, really) blizzard and rain works wonders, just remember to use frost shield on yourself so you don't get frozen from the blizzard yourself. For general armoured-goblin stomping I use the usual steam-lightning beam.

Fun fact about yetis: they can't grab you (and subsequently not insta-kill you) if you are on fire. They can still, however, punch you.

Could someone tell me what comes after the warlocks?

Dwarven priests, I think.

Goblin mages, necromancers and then dwarven priests, actually.

Triple electrocharged steam rays are the quickest way to get rid of non-wet targets imo. Arcane makes it a ray, the steam part gets them wet and then the 3 lightning charges deal doubled damage.

q-f-s-a-a-a

I find that this is just the easiest general way of killing things. When you have all magicks there are several more effective strategies, depending on target(s). Goblins? Just cast a conflagration and they will lose 90% of their HP to initial damage and fire-damage-over-time will kill them in roughly a second. A map with drops? water + arcane will push anything lighter than an orc, for heavier things, use 5x water either in standard or AoE cast. Daemons Skuggfisk? for larger ones, use lightning bolt, for the small ones, use ice + shield + arcane + lightning, AoE cast since it kills them even when 'phased out'. Yetis? Get them wet, freeze them, them blast them with charged 5x earth. Run the hell away, preferably while invisible. Cold then 5x charged earth is pretty effective overall as well. Finally, gotta love rain and blizzard, especially blizzard. Cold shield then blizzard ftw! :D

Of course the steam-lightning beam is pretty much the go-to weapon on maps that are set inside a building or cave. I always miss the screen-wide magicks in them.

The 1700's with muskets, cannons, wooden ships, iron men and such would be pretty sweet, IMO. A very under-utilized time period, I think.
