If they are miners/woodcutters/hunters, that happens too much. Squadmembers without those labors will usually grab their stuff. To expedite matters, give the squad a move order. They will rush to get their stuff. Make sure to cancel move order, once they are equipped

Actually the dwarves will swap weapons/armor for more expensive ones. So if make a adamantom mace(for some odd reason) a dwarf will swap his copper mace for that thing, instead of the nice iron one you wanted him to use. A more expensive weapon does not sometimes mean more effective

A good point to remember, is that if you set traps active in adventure mode, you can build a dangerroom in a fort, with the lever activating the spears the rooms center, go visit it, when all companions(and you ) are decently armored, swap companions, and have companion pull the lever repeatedly. Massive training commences.
 Yes, i know its cheating, but with most companions having no military skills, poo on cheating

Cancel the job, unfordid and remove dump from the rock. it was prolly claimed by another dwarf for another job. now try building the wall again

The animal could be standing on the material needed for construction. When they build something, they will claim the building material before constructing the item. Try cancelling the job, then try building it.
 Is the dwarf the one going to build it, or the the dwarf in the pic smoothing the floor?

Well this is a hint:make sure she has good life insurance on the kids.
 Something that will help is to create a burrow that covers everywhere but the dangerroom. Use this for the civ alert, and activate it. Used this way, you do not have to assign dwarves to it.
If fertile myrtle winds up having another baby, this will not help. Baby will become a shish kabob.

 the more access points dwarves have to reach the upper levels, faster it gets built obviously. Its why  to will build several stairs on its outer perimeter to increase workspeed. Remove the scaffolding when your finished.
 The general layout of motels is a good idea for multistory apartments. An interior stairwell connects the levels.

if you use d>a you can seal up the area quicker, and the masons can carve the fortifications in relative safety. Plus its automatically comes in with a built in roof above it

Best early defense is 1 way in/1 way out which can be sealed with a drawbridge. Airlock system of 2 drawbridges is even better. They are at each end of a narrow tunnel, lines with traps, and possibly a animal guard tower to detect ambushers. Plus chained war animals near the interior  bridge to scare off thieves, and babysnatchers. There is also a trick to using a pressure plates, that if stepped on, bridge raises automatically, and you can control when it lowers.

Try removing the recover wounded thingy from the docs labors. If this doesn't help, remove whatever designates their barracks, cancel any patrol/station etc orders from their schedule. When healed up, redesignate them a barracks.

To be able to tame them, look in the raws and change [PET_EXOTIC] tp [PET]. When tamed, they will breed.

Build a up stairway, then above it create either a down stairway, or a up/down stairway.
scaffolding will help get it built faster, also

Do they actually attack with a pick, or just parry with it, and counterstrike, as miners do? I am thinking after an experiment with a pick wielding militia commander, he was using shield bash as the attack, and parrying with the pick as a defense.
 Experiment in Adventure mode with a pick weilding test subject is forthcoming.
