DF General Discussion / Re: IQ of DF gamers?

snow, your IQ is 150

Offline i scored 136 some years ago, if i recall correctly.

Of course this online test is rubbish, as it needs you to have knowledge of geography i.e., while your mental capacity is in no way linked to how much you know or dont about any given topic.
That depends on which kind of test it is. A figure reasoning test doesn't require any knowledge at all, it measures how good you are at finding patterns. Of course you need to find a proper test to use.

I havn't bothered to read through the 12 pages, but you guys are aware that there's different ways of calculating IQ, right? It just strikes me, especially in this poll, because it'd be impossible to get more than 140 in the figure reasoning test I took a couple of years ago. According to that one, I'm in the best 1% of the population and it gave me a score of 135.

I like cosmetic features a great deal - I think it adds more flavour.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Integral of user interface vs time

I am much more worried about him getting the game more fun instead first. I want the army arc, epics battles, raiding villages, alliances, etc. Right now it is simply a sandbox fortress. Which is fun for a little bit, but for people like me who crave an objective, it gets boring fast.
It's funny, I feel exactly the other way. I love the sandbox aspect and is so happy that I havn't got objectives forced on me.

The first time around I got dwarves and kobolds, but as far as I know, kobolds doesn't siege either. And since then, it's only been dwarves...

If you want to try one more time here is a custom world guaranteed to be made with the newest PC version, which usually creates several 4x4 sites like you described (although it may take a lot of tries for the game to create), and also lots of sand for glassmaking, if it's any help. It's what I personally use and tweak for all my forts.

Sorry for the nooby question, but where do you insert that? The advanced parameters for designing a new world, or do you copypaste it into a folder somewhere?
Disregard that, I eventually found it after digging around the wiki for some time...

In an attempt to be at least a little on topic, I find that the underground river is very annoying if you try to do water-driven anything, since trees start growing in the canals... That clogged up a couple of perpetual motion machines for me.

I wonder if I'm doing something wrong with the worldgen, though, since I still don't get any neighboring civilizations except for dwarves...? I need sieges, damnit!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Starting locations.
« on: January 28, 2009, 12:36:57 pm »
Hello all. I'm having a bit of trouble with getting a good starting location... While I've been able to get most of the features after a couple of world generations, I suddenly have trouble getting any goblin neighbors, and I think DF wouldn't be the same without the sieges. However, I get the same problem with the pregenerated worlds on the wiki.

So, can anyone help me? Is the wiki-page just outdated and everyone else is using another one? Or am I just being unlucky?

EDIT: Sorry, I do see there's a topic like this just below. And probably loads of them further back... I don't immediately see a delete button, though...
