Just avoiding trap use altogether is a good way to keep things interesting.

Traps?  Maybe my militaries are a bit overpowered, but usually if the enemy lives long enough to get to my traps, I'm in deep trouble.  My traps are generally useless because the enemy just doesn't live long enough to get caught in them...or its a hidden enemy detected by my front entrance guard dogs and doesn't live long enough to get out(and thus caught).  A highly mobile military trumps traps any day.  So if you want to lose, forgo the military entirely.  Then you're assuredly doomed.

True. I tend to wait until my first ambush to train military, though. That way my guys can get on the job training, and if they survive they are already good to go.

In general in this game I've found a lot less boredom by not sweating any details (aside from a water supply and plenty of booze and food) and focusing on stupid projects instead of boring stuff like bedrooms, efficiency, etc.
 
mind adding that info here? it warrants some testing.

No, the lung injury will never heal. It's because of its [BREATHE] tag, which prevents healing.

if by "invade" you mean "come over for tea" then yes, that would work.

if you set popcap to 7 you will get 1 wave of migrants but no more until you raise it, i think.

i think your 6 helped dwarves should make a wooden fort around the construction site with fortifications at least 1 z-level about ground. it may be prudent to seal it off during summer and winter until you can purchase a pick from the dwarven caravan during the fall.

Can a squad of 6 LEGENDARY Wrestlers, Shield users and Weapon Users (Swords, Hammers, Axes) and a squad of 4 LEGENDARY Wrestlers, Shield users, Hammer users and Crossbow users take on a pit of demons?
depends on their type. sofs will walk all over those champions, frogs and tentacle demons will be slaughtered.

I can't wait for my philosopher. I miner out his 6x9 room and his 10x10 lever room wayyyyyy early. My first year I think. Gonna engrave it all when he gets here, right now it's just smoothed. I'm gonna lock him in with food and everything, and just have him pull levers. Gonna put someone else in there as well, so if one is asleep, the other can pull the lever. Plus they can keep each other company AND be friends :D
philosopher-controlled traps? or, better yet, connect some mechanisms that create hijinks inside your fortress and have your philosopher pull them casually. the most important noble ever.

an idea for collecting dead carp:
build a stone walkway some tiles away from the waterfall. build a wall on the side that is further from the waterfall. build a bridge that will catch the flying fish (it must touch the wall of the waterfall). water will start splashing out from the sides but your wall will keep the dwarves from being swept away by it. then do it all over on the next z-level. then all you have to do is raise the top bridge to catch the fish, then lower it so you can reclaim their corpses.

frog demons should have a "devour" attack. put their giant gobs to use.
tentacle demons should be able to attack multiple times with their numerous appendages.
