Within the city there has been a great discovery!  The league of natural philosophers have discovered a great wonder, which they call "writing" using this "writing" they say that they shall be able to transmit information between people without even talking. Astounding! Whats more, they say that this new discovery will open the doors to even more astounding new discoveries.

As is well-known, the city of Kubrinka is on a mesa. What is less well known is that no-one has left it in quite a while, what with the city tearing itself apart and all. They have mostly survived by virtue of being able to grow their crops in cramped conditions. This alone is no longer enough, there's not enough room. As such cautionary clearing of some of the forest floor has begun, in order for there to be enough food. This has also lead to a great effort by the dark-clothed ones to domesticate the more benign and tasty beasts of the woods, something that may just result in great things. As well as this, a new technique for increasing the food harvest is being tested in the plains north of the mesa, where the great river Dranus flows.

In other news, local sage predicts rain of fish: Nomindarmus the sage was always a somewhat......... strange person, but this latest prediction of his takes the cake. He has predicted that there shall be a rain of fish, and not just any fish. He claims that on the first of Jrune there shall be a rain of the blind cave fish that swim in the lower depths of the mesa. Incidentally, Fernsworthy, head of  the society of natural philosophers, has said "If this comes to pass, I will not only eat my own hat, I will also dig a room 10-feet cubed with my teeth!" Nomindarmus replied "Weee! I'M A LOONEY FISH HAT HAT BARK!

(use 7 labor to work tiles 7 giving +1 wool and +1 food, 8 giving +1 wood and +2 food, 9 giving same, and 10 giving same and lastly 18, giving + wool and +3 food. and tiles 2 and 3 giving me +2 food for each. This adds up to 2 wool, 3 wood and 14 food.

3 labor in the hall of research for literacy)

Incidentally, there is no rule against me irrigating 1, 2, 3 and 6 if I possessed farming.

My leaders:

Governor: Crunchil Mustrun: Also known as "the peacemaker" this once light, but now blue-wearer was responsible for pulling together the lights and the darks enough to make exploring the outside world possible. His ability to make everyone around him stop what they are doing and pay attention to him is legendary.

Sage: Kreglin Mustrun: The formerly dark-wearing bondbrother of Crunchil, he is well known for being slow, deliberate and methodical in is investigations. It is not a good idea to get him angry as he is one of the few remaining people who knows even a little magic.

The prisoners alcohol has been cut off. This is a bad idea. They're retched and spiteful little bastards. But they are dwarfs. This cannot stand. I have to see the sheriff about this.

Well, at least I'm not completely insane. Why did he cut off their booze anyway?

There are those within Kubrinka who wish to mount an expedition into the foreboding forest, to uncover what lies beyond, before doing this they need someplace to organize themselves at. So they shall make an explorers guild, and reap the benefits! (2 labor or something thereabouts)

Within the city there has been a great discovery!  The league of natural philosophers have discovered a great wonder formed by a process involving heating the sand found in the lower parts of the mesa. This miraculous invention, called "glass" is clear, solid and has some rather strange effects on ones eyesight. The natural philosophers shall begin their investigation in earnest momentarily. (2 labor to the scientific investigation of glass, 1 to the mining and gathering of sand.)

No. Each side will take any advantage that it can. Getting to share it with the others is the big difficulty.

3336
The Zaths are a rather isolationist culture, being concerned more with their own internal struggles then whatever bad things happen to the other races. They aren't scavengers, they will use tech if they find it (after quite a lot of study) but they prefer to make their own stuff.

3337
I meant a map of the world.

3338
Is there a map?

*grumble* "Kids these days, never any respect for their elders. When I was a lad if we made smartmouth comments to anyone older then us we'd get a hammering we would! Also, this vegetation is too green! Vegetation back in the good old days was a proper and dwarf shade of brown!"

3340
So, what really happened?

Meanwhile Oldbeard was proving somewhat problematic for the scout force. He was slowing them down by an immense amount with his many, many stories coupled with his unwillingness to move until they were finished. They tried sending him on scouting duties, but he always ended up asleep in a tree. Eventually they resorted to taking his glasses and carrying him on a mule, which he would tell stories to non-stop.

There she is, now to begin.

I hope that she cooks half as well as she says she can, I'm really sick of raw radscorpion meat. I've gone hunting, and killed a horned kangaroo while the miners dig out the entrance to our new home.

3343
Since it looks like no-one wants a cook, I'm gonna go ahead and start

I just noticed, he likes brahmin. And we got two of them with the wagon. He should be happy.

For those who are interested, the Fallout mod is here: http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=22554.0

Another edit: soon after we arrived I look at the units list and I see this:

......What just happened?
BTW: this map has an underground river.

Okay then. The monsters wander the forest. but they know to watch out for them. the beasts generally don't attack the dark ones, noone knows why except them, and they aren't telling. the beasts aren't all that aggressive, but they are territorial.
