has anyone had a dwarf starve or die from dehydration due to these yet? I do appreciate the dwarves being more dedicated, but I think the indicators should be modified so that they only show up once a dwarf is REALLY thirsty and not the moment they think about wanting a drink. and that the dwarves should abandon tasks automatically at that point if they don't already (i had a brewer go on brewing on repeat for a very, very long time before I cancelled the job so he'd go eat, so I'm inclined to think that they may just go on working forever until you let them stop).

this isn't exactly correct. you can dig a ramp from either the level it's going to be on, or from above it. to dig a 'down' ramp (which don't really exist, a 'downward slope' is really just open space above the ramp), just designate digging a ramp on the same tile, but 1 level down. your miners can dig it out from the side or from above.

also keep in mind there's a difference between digging a ramp/stairs and constructing ramps/stairs. the two behave in somewhat different ways.

well, I'm not exactly versed in raw editting, would it be possible to create a reaction that would actually require a cow that is ready for milking, bring it over, and then produce the milk? I don't just want to cheat with a magic workshop that produces milk out of thin air or nonstop milks cows that otherwise wouldn't be milkable

not sure what you mean. basically toady put in an easter egg (a joke) if you searched for this 'fictional' metal. he later finds out it actually exists and puts it into the game, but leaves the easter egg.

it's still escape to bring up the options menu (where you can select key bindings), you just can't do it at that screen.

not in a similar fashion, no.

you can either attach individual animals to restraints (built with a rope or chain), put them in cages (build a cage... using a cage), or dump them into a pit zone (designate the zone over open space). caged animals wont breed (although i think they may give birth inside the cage if they were already pregnant), pitted and restrained animals will (regardless of whether they can actually reach eachother)

I don't recall exactly but I think this was an 'easter egg' toady put in because he initially didn't realize electrum was a real metal (as opposed to something fantasy based like adamantine)

bah. doing it with the manager is slightly better (it spams me but whatever), but it only allows 30 of each job. will that go up as my manager gets more experienced or something, or is it capped?

once something gets dumped, it gets automatically forbidden. view the body with k and hit f to unforbid it. re-mark it for dumping if it isn't already and they should take care of it.

i'm not sure about getting him a proper burial

in the new version is it possible yet to tell your dwarves "make barrels whenever there is wood" or "milk the cows whenever they can be milked"?

I'm trying to run my food supply entirely on cheese and its working out pretty well, but god damn is it annoying constantly having to tell the milker to do his job

for skills, I tend to focus on what I'm going to need right off the bat. for less immediate concerns, I can just 'train' my dwarves as I go.

Leader with all his points distributed through negotiation/bookeeper/appraiser/etc
3 dwarves with proficient mining
1 proficient grower
1 proficient brewer
1 proficient cook

so I'm trying to dive into the new version, but something I'm having a problem with is getting all the civilizations in a world. I genned 3 in a row that had no elves. then 2 with no goblins. I've never really messed with custom world gen before, but is there something I can do to help get all the races in a world? atm I'm just running more standard worlds but it takes alot longer to make a world than it did in 40d
