DF Suggestions / Re: Paper money

I have just successfully hijacked a topic  :o

My original point was about what the currency would be backed by and about an inflation system conected to the wealth of the fortress and the ammount of currency circulating.

I dislike the idea of limiting the items that can be sold to traders, instead imo items that are undesirable (esp. due to oversupply) should be devalued to the point where the trader decides they are not worth their weight to lug around

Your idea could work too, but it would be very gamey, forcing the player to have a flexible infrastructure and the ability to instantly expand.

Trading Embargoes are a waste of time for the Elves due to the fact that the Dwarves rarely, if ever, actually want to trade with them anyway.

Until the Elves pressure the hummies and Mountainholm into joining in on the trade sanction fun  ;D

A couple wacky ideas:
-Send displaced Elves to the fortress
-Begin preaching a new religion in your fortress
-Trespass Dwarven borders to collect wood/animals/whatever
-March armies across the Fortress lands
-Infringe on the Fortress's soverignty a la Imperial Style, enforced by dudes with bows of course
-Chase gobo's into Fortress teritory

Not all of these are formal diplomatic actions, but rather real world senarios that create political agitation

184
I don't think the historical background of diplomacy is relevant, the topic is alternatives to war in the game, the realism is unimportant.

Sabotage of the enviroment has already been mentioned, as have trade sanctions, but in addition

-Kidnapping political prisoners
-Assassinating certain targets (not nobles, but dwarves with many favorible relationships and/or skilled dwarves)
-Bribing the nation as long as the fort follows certain conditions, maybe install agents?
-Poison the water
-Poison the booze
-Poison the food
-Poison the livestock/animals (Treats?)
-Release high body-temp vermin into Fortress
-Magically collapse tiles/ignite hiden coal
-Trade cursed items to the dwarves that gives bad moods/cause fast-acting insanity
-Spread propaganda causing dwarves to defect
-On the larger scale turn other allies against fortress, agitate/equip gobos with supperior weaponry

Right I've had it with this thread. I have a masters in Medivial History from York University so listen up.

5.) Very comman.

I would demand a refund from York  :), unless you meant Communication Manager System for Data Exchange for Ship Operations

Compared to stone-crafting, all other trade goods fall short, metal-working, textiles, and gem cutting may create more wealth, but require more micro-managing and infrastructure, and are thus unneccessary

Sorry if that is too far off topic...

Glass crafting is a little better, IMO.

Granted you have magma and sand, along with a wood burning industry, that's infrastructure whearas, stone crafting creates relatively pricy trade goods at alarming speeds as long as you have spare stone (hopefully always)

Hmmmm.....lithovores, sounds fun, maybe the notorious black pudding will make it into Dwarf Fortress or one of its other amorphis friends

Regardless, a goblin nation that waves of goblins at a few dozen dwarves and fails again and again is either masochistic, or simply weak.  In both cases the goblins should not be wearing a masterpeice Giant Spider Silk thongs which likely are worth more than their pitiful nation.

Hopefully once the new military arc is implemented the net worth of the attacking force will be directly related to the economic prowess of the state, repeated failure to destroy a dwarven neighbor would decrease their wealth and therefore decrease the value of the loot.

Honnestly I find that my goblin attackers wear have more invested in armor than in clothing, metal being reusable and all looting it is a no-brainer, and yes it brings in too much money

But like I said before this is irrelevant because of the potency of a trained stone-crafter, the Dwarven currency should inflate very rapidly due to the ease of creating wealth.

Claimed items should be named and signifigant ones recorded in the records

Plus body parts could be trophy-enabled, Grendel's arm anybody?

As valuable as spoils of war are I have always been able to purchase all non-trade goods from the caravan starting with the very first dwarven caravan, creating stone mugs is so simple, effective, and even neccessary in order to create stockpile areas.

Compared to stone-crafting, all other trade goods fall short, metal-working, textiles, and gem cutting may create more wealth, but require more micro-managing and infrastructure, and are thus unneccessary

Sorry if that is too far off topic...

I dunno, if dwarves can fool the hummies into buying yet another stone mug....I just don't know what to say,

supply and demand system based on actual game stats maybe?

EDIT:  With the conquest option in the newest update this would provide the perfect reason to go to war...to create a monopoly on a certain good

I never thought about how fricken rich the dwarves can get, I would only imagine that will change at some point, I have imported every non-trade good brought to me for stone mugs....

Interpret my this suggestion how you will, in does not explicitly mean multiplayer, for the most part it simply implies "player generated seiges" and would not be to different from the arena
