DF Gameplay Questions / Re: 100 FPS?
« on: July 23, 2009, 03:07:57 pm »
On a side note, I hate every single one of you. Just you wait till next year (or the year after that...). Just you wait, and we'll see who'll be running the game at 100 FPS  >:(

Hey don't I get an update I was running a computer that originally ran Windows 3.1  ;D

P.S. I have started playing at 50 FPS, I think I have grown accustom to it, even if I like 30 FPS better

That is interesting I see it now, one dwarf gets hurt during a tantrum, the grudge spreads among family and friends and two factions form, fights lead to murder, which leads to all out war, you can only snicker (possibly with a tear in your eye) as your mature fortress crumbles to dust :)

EDIT: I for some reason quoted the first post *facepalm*

I think it was to guarantee a decent weapon until metalforging played out.

Only thing it did was to make anything below steel crappy

Anything below steel is crappy

And remember, ask you liason for everything, all the time.

Wouldn't that just increase prices without increasing the likelyhood of it being brought?

Or, if you prefer to be fancy, connect some water wheels at the bottom level of your sewer system to the bottom pump, so that every time water flows out the pumps are turned on to refill the fresh water pipes automatically.

Ooooh perpetual motion machine

Sorry for being clueless  ;D

chalk pila would be nice

I am no geologist but isn't chalk a pretty crappy material for a weapon?

On Topic: I guess I have no clue of the potential for modding that changing the raws has, is there any tutorial so I don't end up scewing something up?

Or he just plays on a really small site.

6x6, i am playing on a brand new computer with duo core processors, it isn't some uber gaming computer

however I did kill all animals and I did not have any running water

On Topic: I still think I like 30 FPS, 50+ seems super fast to me, it isn't any fun with workshop jobs being completed within 2-5 seconds

I can't possibly be alone on this one, am I?

Um, where is the water input?

DF Gameplay Questions / Interesting Biome
« on: July 20, 2009, 01:47:22 am »
I have been having trouble sticking with any of my forts for a substancial amount of time, now it seems I create a new fort everytime I fire up the program, and I was wondering which biome (in your opinion) is the most interesting.

I have tried outright dangerous biomes, but I was ill-equipped and the fortress didn't last very long, due to idle-inspiring groundhogs and agressive skeletal horses.

On topic; the main reason I'd like to see this is I like to do survival embarks where I leave with nothing but a battle axe and some cats, and I really like embarking on evil biomes where there's a constant threat of attack without the real danger of being caught off-guard by a goblin ambush. Currently I can't do both at the same time since my dwarves can't arm themselves enough to fight off some of the nastier undead without metal weapons. Wooden weapons would make dangerous embarks more fun, training new military dwarves in the absence of elvish or silver weaponry easier, and would just make sense.

That was exactly what I was thinking, I am constantly embarking on rediculously hard biomes, with rediculously small ammounts of food, only to get beaten by skeletal horses :(

So why not have a rediculous weapon?, the blackjack!

If I could be forgiven this off-topic question, What is the civ-forge mod?  DF isn't an open source project so other than init_raw sets no modding should be possible, right?

Excuse me, but spaying of animals shouldn't even be done in ASCII. Think how you would feel if you had your balls removed! The kennels should include a neuter dwarf option to even this all out :D

Cats are butchered for a reason.

Same reason women get periods?

Wait, now the butcher is a female feminist on her period, yikes ;)

Mace skill would make sense

@Joakim - only puny hummie guards use batons, dwarven guards use hammers!

I see what you're trying to get at, but I still don't think it would work. All the water in your tank would immediately flow out your pit, and all the creatures you want to shoot would have to be on the level of that pit. I don't think that would happen, because I think all the creatures would sink to the bottom.

There are no creatures that swim on the surface? Disapointing, I was preparing my execution chamber especially to suit a swimming creature

Ok so while I have ya'lls attention (jiggles key ring) when I look at the list of dwarves, what do all the colored names mean?  Mood?  Injury status?  Migration wave?  Favored color?

Their proffession, it depends on what types of skills they have (metal worker/gem worker/crafter)
