^ = weapon trap
the first three spots are reserved for cage traps but you can put weapon traps there instead. I dont use stone fall traps since they require to be reloaded each time and animal come through there often. Eventually you will want to fill the entire passage with weapon traps. This is most effective when you do this to both sides. Not just both sides of the river but on the north and south side of you entrance. The opening has to be as seen or else it wont really work. The shape can be any shape however. This will also work well with sieges that dont come through near your road.
On maps where the river freezes i suggest you use aquaducts to prevent animals from crossing the frozen river and bypass the traps. You wont even have to make bridges for them to cross.

Ya i go with you on that... i meant this a bit differently than just a race but yes it takes me long time to normaly get a magma forge up. I want to make sure im ready for any attacks from the chasm first. Grr curse them antmen and their beardless faces
