it seems finding a map with no outdoor river and with elephants will take too long so i will go with the lowest possible with elephants in it

wow i had to create a WHOLE new world for this one seems to be an elephant derived world where they only appear in areas not so much of a challenge to love on.....

took me a quick few minutes to remember that i wanted skilless dwarves..... woops. had to try again and then i found a treeless map with no veg and untamed wilds that was warm....close enough since i cant find scorching

couldnt find a scorching map with right spots so i chose a freezing map with no trees or vegetation and untamed wilds.

7 dwarves with no skills and only one pick as an equipment with no food or pets what so ever vs a scorching treeless map with no vegetation and full of elepahnts. who would win. Im gonna find out.    :D


Edit: May take a minute to start 150 worlds rejected so far.... and with nearly 5 perfect worlds made a rejected.

I think toady already mentions that trappers will sleep in the spot in which they stand when they are hunting and need sleep.

wow just started a new fortress and had just reached summer. Had a space open for the flooding to make muddy ground and just as i finish the digging there both my miners fall a sleep right next to the river. The river floods and now both miners have drowned.  :(

^ = weapon trap

the first three spots are reserved for cage traps but you can put weapon traps there instead. I dont use stone fall traps since they require to be reloaded each time and animal come through there often. Eventually you will want to fill the entire passage with weapon traps. This is most effective when you do this to both sides. Not just both sides of the river but on the north and south side of you entrance. The opening has to be as seen or else it wont really work. The shape can be any shape however. This will also work well with sieges that dont come through near your road.

On maps where the river freezes i suggest you use aquaducts to prevent animals from crossing the frozen river and bypass the traps. You wont even have to make bridges for them to cross.

I had 4 legendary dwarves by winter of the second year. 2 miners 1 leatherworker and 1 metalsmith. My legendary leatherworker was literaly smashed by an elephant and my metalsmith tried to own a giant toad.... glad my miners still live

actually to my EXTREME surprise and pleasure i have been hitting the magma on a "safe" spot where i end up coming on a piece of land. No flood and still get my miner.

Ya i go with you on that... i meant this a bit differently than just a race but yes it takes me long time to normaly get a magma forge up. I want to make sure im ready for any attacks from the chasm first. Grr curse them antmen and their beardless faces
