DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Face Palm moments you had
« on: September 07, 2015, 03:58:08 pm »I always thought kobolds were even smaller and sturdier versions of dwarves. But apparently, they are just intelligent reptiles. (Google image it)
Well, there have been a number of different interpretations of kobolds over the years. The reptile version is based on D&D's kobolds, but the original German myths had them as a variant on goblins/brownies/house spirits, often inhabiting mines and playing tricks.
Because of growing up playing Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, Kobolds will always been the upright horned chihuahuas of the AD&D 2E era to me.

So. Am not especially concerned with micromanaging everything, am instead seducing everyone and their mother, including my own siblings, so i have kids to marry into foreign cultures and get me some claims. If someone crosses me, they get assassinated and possibly their wife knocked up with my kid. If i can clear out some lines of succession to get my own kids in there, assassination. Someone's not dropping a plot when i want them to, assassination.
My surviving (and likely eventually inbred) children will fight amongst themselves in the inevitable clusterfuck, the survivors will breed the next generation to pass on those Darwin-approved genes and continue the cycle. Eventually a race of ubermensch will arise, disfigured from inbreeding, but strong for they are the survivors. Even lover's pox will only be a nuisance, simply serving as one more obstacle to be overcome.
Am i doing it right?

Edit: FUCK ME. Finally found it, that was bugging the hell out of me. Turned out my google-fu was too precise, just needed to generalize it a bit more and i found it first try. I've updated my post.

Edit: FINALLY found it. It was Left Field Hotel.
Alright, this might be a bit of an obscure one. This is on the PC, pretty much a small indie game.
It was a top-down roguelike-esque (that is to say, randomly-generated, hard as balls), though with sprites, and it was set in a hotel. You had a sanity meter that went down in the darkness and such (you could turn on TV's, flick on lights etc. to counter it), would make you start attacking yourself when it got low. You could also hold your breath. There was a monster creeping through the hotel, sprite was a shrunk-down version of this here, a full-size version of the pic would show if it caught you and static would appear on the screen.
You could search the rooms and find notes about a murder and such that'd occurred. You could also, if you so desired, break and jump out the windows of the hotel.
I recall it had "Hotel" or "Motel" in the name, it was that and another word or number, i cannot for the life of me remember what it is. I'm fairly certain i found it here in Other Games, but i did a quick search and couldn't find where it was linked.

Spacestation 13 and DF.
So basically, the BS12 server, but even more complex.

DF General Discussion / Re: What is 'Tree Egg'?
« on: December 22, 2014, 10:38:08 pm »Instead of the normal form of reproductive organs that we're used to from plants (fruit containing seeds), feather trees grow eggs. Don't ask how they're inseminated, that process has yet to be studied.
Room for an "Elves with wood" joke here?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: !!SCIENCE!! Weaponizing pregnant dwarves
« on: December 19, 2014, 11:05:01 pm »I don't understand, how do you weaponize that?
Drop mother onto enemy, mother gives birth in mid-air, now have two projectiles at once.

I pretty much just wing it, for the most part. I have a few layouts i commonly use, but it's negotiable where i actually place them

DF Suggestions / Re: The ability to update your world without playing adventure or fortress mode

Already been suggested many times. It's (probably) on the to-do list.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Are bucklers much different from shields?
« on: October 04, 2014, 12:20:18 pm »I changed the name "buckler" to "hat" in my game, and equipped my civilians with that. They are waving hats to goblins, while deflecting the bolts.
I'm now imagining Dwarves dressing up as Kung Lao, going by that...

DF Suggestions / Re: Why does tile have a "floor"?
« on: September 12, 2014, 09:49:29 am »if you were a dwarf, would you dig an 8 foot mineshaft EXACTLY 8 feet above the other 8 foot mineshaft? No, that would be stupid. So they don't. They just intentionally leave room in between.
I don't see why that "breaks the continuity of space"? I mean it's not like there's some physical law that prevents you from leaving a foot or two in between mineshafts...
This pretty much sums it up.

Boats have already been suggested many, many times. It's already on the "figure it out if possible" list.
