DF Modding / Re: Dwarves using 2 tiles hardcoded?
« on: February 17, 2009, 02:04:37 am »
More tiles in the font file? Not possible, afaik. 's still hardcoded to 256 (or whatever). could lead to some amusing wierdness if you tried however.

as i understand it, the file specified as the font is devided into 256 (or whatever) tiles by dividing the height and width by 16 (i think, what's the square root of 256? 'm too lazy to figure it out).  so if you try to increase the height/width of the font file, you'll just end up with the tile divisions that the game uses falling in the middle of your tiles. assuming it doesn't crash.

and to answer the original question, can't you change the tile used in creature_standard.txt?

Technically you CAN add more lines of tiles. I just tried it. Depending on the size of the font file, the game either used tiles 1 line under what they'd normally be ('Q' becomes 'a' etc.), or, as you said, the divisions move to the middle of the tile.

And if you mean changing the tile used when a creature gets drafted, then no.  :-\

You could fix it with a graphics set, couldn't you?  Even if all you put in the graphics set are the tiles from the tile set.  Would at least give you control.

Can i make it so the gfx tiles are also 8x12?

Also, another question. Can i increase the height of the curses_(insert screen size here) picture files, and add more tiles? So theres more than just the 256 or whatever tiles already available.

You know how when you draft a dwarf, the tile they use changes? Is this hardcoded or is there some obscure tag that i keep missing in the raws?

im pretty sure that dwarves will never siege you, no matter how mean you are. this may only be when you are playing dwarves though. do you actually get traders from your race coming to visit? and also, would not your new impossible to kill species have genocided the world during generation?

Yes, i get traders from my creatures.

I didn't say impossible to kill. And i set their ethics and personality tags so they dont just kill for the heck of it. If they did then there wouldn't be any gobbos to drop into an underground river and flush into the

Like the title says. I have everyone in a 1 tile meeting area so they build social(sp?) skills, and with almost 500 animals in my fort it's kinda annoying having to go through a dozen animals and stuff just to get to the creature i'm trying to mark for execution select.
I don't think what you're experiencing is a common problem at all, man. I mean. 1 tile? Wow.

Anyway I agree. I only have to flip between like 3-5 creatures but it's still annoying and takes up alot of time in the long run... also you do realise the downside of having everyone practice their social skills, right? If everyone are friends and two out of 100 dwarfs die.. ALL dwarves get depressed, the most sensitive one kills herself and HELLO tantrum spiral.

And, all your dwarves do is party. All the time.

No, i use a meeting zone from the (i) menu, not from tables and statues and that.

This is actually a bug that Toady already has on his bug list, so it'll get fixed eventually.

These days, the creatures i play as breathe dragonfire and are invincible in almost every way.

This disappoints me.

Even so, with all this stuff, i can design effective Elf killing chambers. I hope the elves delcare war on me soon, i wanna burn them darnit!

And maybe the Humans, just for fun. Not the Dwarves though. I stay on good terms with the Dwarves.

Has this happened to anyone? One of my old forts had a HFS chamber with water channels, instead of magma. It also had fishes "swimming" on the ground in there. Some kinda glitch. Was it because it was sorta near a brook? (not on the same Z-level but still near the thing.)

And my game is modded but its just a few new creatures and smelter operations (Free Adamantine, wood, charcoal etc.). Nothing that should affect the water.

Unfortunately. I had to abandon cuz of tantrum spiral caused by losses in a siege. These days, the creatures i play as breathe dragonfire and are invincible in almost every way. And have [SPEED:0]. And a bunch of other things.

There weren't any frog demons in there. AFAIK. And it was weird with the fish just moving on the ground without dieing

Also should i have put this in bug reports?

And i'm on the latest version (0.28.181.40d)

Especially since eating corpses can lead to some nasty diseases such as the human version of Mad cow. (I don't know what it is called... you get it by injesting human protean)

Mad Human? :P

AFAIK, The higher your fighting skill(s), the more powerful the people you can recruit. And the more quests you complete, the more people you can have in the first place.
