TL;DR

BUT!  The GCS venom causes an injected syndrome, it has no affiliated ingestion syndrome, so it's perfectly safe to drink venom.  In fact I believe this is true in the real world.  Unless you have an outstanding stomach ulcer, then stomach acid will neutralize the venom and the venom has no bloodstream to enter.

Yes you are right ... it's all in the wiki.
 I feel silly now.

(figured this would be more appropriate here than derailing a DF questions thread so I copied it)....
I just realized I can make my dwarves drink venom.

TO THE LABORATORY!

Edit:
I made a pocket world and embarked in a calm area. I didn't bother to look for helmet snake venom in the list of things to bring because I found giant cave spider venom and thought "even better!"
I made a 1x1 pit and made a small tunnel to it. The pit was blocked off by a door so it remained a 1x1 room... the reason was because I wanted to move the barrel in and out of there.
I tried using a bug to remove the venom from the barrel. I forbid the venom pool itself and designated the barrel for dumping and for moving to another stockpile. It didn't work ... I suppose the bug occurs when you tell the dwarves to put the barrel in the TRADE DEPOT and nowhere else. The forbidden venom gets poured out when you do this.

So I had to wait for merchants. I left the game on and took a walk ... only to realize when I got back that I had left the autosave function on and only a month had passed. So I had to sit down and wait the rest of the year until finally merchants arrived.

It worked. The dwarves poured the venom into the small room and left with the barrel. I locked the door before anyone could clean it up and immediately started filling in the room from above as a pond. I saw that the Z level above the pool showed that there was liquid ... WHITE liquid. I built a well over it and, sure enough, the bucket contains "water laced with giant cave spider venom"

Now I wait ... the dwarves kept running there and pouring water into the well. so I turned off the pond option.. and now they start drinking!

... there are 8 units of venom-laced water in the bucket. So far 5 dwarves have drunk from it but no one is showing any symptoms of being poisoned.

 Fudge.

Edit 2: after a while the venom evaporated. oh well... atleast I got the dwarves to drink it and that's worth something.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Fattening up my dwarves
« on: February 26, 2012, 08:25:42 pm »
With the new release, my dwarves could use all the protection they can get. Armor takes more metal to make and enemies are harder than ever. I've always prefered having fat dwarves because it does indeed provide a bit more natural protection. I was wondering, does anyone know how to make the dwarves fat? Do they have to eat certain things? Do they have to do nothing?

Cheese.

 Lots and lots of cheese.

It just dawned on me reading this that having criminals emigrate to the fortress trying to hide from justice is totally possible now. As are dwarves coming to your fortress to commit crimes.

Yes but they don't currently (as I understand it) flee from the fortress. They hang around and accept their punishment.

It would be fun wouldn't it?

as I understand it you make a 1x1 room with a upright spear trap in it. you link the trap to a lever and have a vampire go inside. you do this by drafting him and stationing him in there.

proceed to spear the everloving shit out of the vampire. then mine out the roof of the room. do NOT open and retrieve the corpse ... designate a pond and the dwarves will fill the room with water. The water will be contaminated with dwarf blood... and then you build a well on top of it.

Any dwarf that drinks from the contaminated well will turn into a vampire. I believe this is how it's done but I have yet to do it myself.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: 2 sieges in a row? Really?
« on: February 26, 2012, 02:20:57 am »
sometimes sieges occur in rapid succession.

if kobolds manage to steal something then they might get bolder and send ambush parties. they're super weak though so not a big concern. might lose a woodcutter or a fisher or something

giving birth is creepy.

Second.

Anyway I've noticed children disobeying burrows in 34.01... actually I have also noticed pants-on-head stupid actions. Like my sheriff having her bedroom in the side of the fortress, right? bed is next to the wall. There is PLENTY of room to clutter around the bed as children usually do when a mother is sleeping (obnoxious bastards) but her child decides to go out and around the entire fort to stand outside and press against the wall besides her bed.

 Damn kids...

edit: come to think of it another child respected the burrow when he had been eating or drinking and wanted to put some object back in the food stockpile ... he decided to put it in a stockpile that wasn't within the burrow and spammed me with cancellation messages.
i assume they do whatever the hell they want.

Ya, i'm pretty sure this guy's a vampire.  What can I do to be sure?

well it's a not a guy ... but it IS a vampire. i'm sure of it. you can ...

1. execute her by some manner of trap
2. imprison her and throw her unwanted migrants
3. let her run around and do her thing undisturbed
4. create a well of un-life and turn EVERYONE into vampires

lock the vampire in a small room. then wait and observe.

does he get thirsty? vampires drink booze but they don't actually need to drink. if he doesn't get thirsty or hungry ... you got yourself a vampire.

a locked up and harmless vampire :D

No, that's the LAST thing you want to do!  A child who drinks of vampire blood will remain a child forever!  The idea is to get rid of children, not to make them immortal and more difficult to kill!

You'll turn into a wonderful mother one day.
