DF Suggestions / Re: Something solid is missing.

The mutilation and surgery sounds funny, but I doubt you could mix and match, too different on the inside. Even mixing blood of the same species (how many blood types?) is hazardous, this would be near impossible. Although, I would really enjoy seeing what happens when I take wings off of one creature and attach them to a dwarf.
Cog Dwarf-Harpy cancels pwnage: Interrupted by pitchfork wielding mob.
Damn Elves always have to ruin everything. I didn't even get to install the magma cannon yet!

DF Suggestions / Re: GHOSTS!
« on: April 17, 2009, 04:03:24 pm »
hm.

Flattered that you enjoy my ghosts as much as I do, but shouldn't an artifact summoned by the undead be.. evil? Cursed?
Like this. A statue causes negative thoughts instead of good. A weapon has a chance of damaging the dwarf that is holding it, armor and clothes do the same. A cursed bucket runs full of poison, wounding the intestines of those who drink from it. A bed in which dwarves suffer nightmares most foul (brain damage) etcetera.

Something along those lines anyway. It doesn't make much sense that something negative (haunting) would bring about good things. (artifacts)

I think loading the path with cage traps would be a better option, even force him to recieve care until he heals...

so that hee has a chance in the ARENA OF DOOOOOOOOM!

I think it'd be better to just throw him in a pit.
By pit I mean "ledge designated as pit some 30 levels above the ground water magma" and that would, as they say be the end of that.

The workshops are 3x3 so at first I was like "what?" but I understand what you mean. Placing several workshops in the same room can be tricky if you can't rotate them so I support this suggestion.

Fire Imps can be a problem but they wont wander to far from the pipe.

I disagree. In my (limited) experience with fire imps they wandered all over the friggin map. Fire imps in 3 out of 4 corners ... of course this was AFTER they had surfaced and tasted blood.
Indeed, Imps can get... restless. I've had one travel down to my forges. From the top of the magma pipe, through my entrance, down the main shaft and into the forges I designed to make sure nothing like this would disturb the blacksmiths.
 Damn imps...

... it's like he just knew isn't it?  ;D

This really begs to be stopped. That woman can't have anyone who cares for her and all those cats BEG to be turned into biscuits.

Not because of the smell though. I am no stranger to smell, I worked for a brief period of time as a caretaker of the elderly, there was this one woman who refused to shower, bathe or clean. She flat-out refused to even change clothes and she pissed herself everyday.
She wasn't insane or senile she ... just... prefered it that way. She was a very kind lady and she always offered candy. She came with her big bowl, grinning broadly and picking up those little colored balls with her disgusting piss-soaked wrinkly hands and pushed them upon you.

So ... cats? Not affected.

I don't think they're smart enough to do this ... they might decide that the best way to reach the enemy once it disappears out of view is to climb down and circle around the tower, depending on your design. I generally use 2 tiles that they can stand on, don't want them falling over eachother trying to get into position...

.. besides the fact of the matter is that they ARE going to get hurt. They ARE going to be hit and I'll be damned if the nurses have to enter goblin line of fire and stick close to the fortifications just to retrieve the wounded. Best solution is (as TerminatorII said) to position them 1 and 1 .. otherwise there's also the situation in which the commander who is positioned at the best spot wastes his 30 bolts and runs off to get more, his soldiers abandoning their post to assist him.

As for me I hate that kind of micro management in a game where those I control are drunks who only obey when they Frekkin' feellsi like it mnathey!

Drop goblins in upstream, and see if they drown before they get swept over.

Can they get swept over?

They should be if they're close enough .. if they're dropped upstream however they might not.
This must be examined.

Spears do not always get stuck.  There are several factors affecting stick chance, including skill, quality, and raws.  A legendary spearman can be devastating, even with a low-quality wooden spear.

In one of my forts, my best warrior is a spearman.  She's the longest lasting of them.

Truth actually. I usually don't use spearmen in the army (spears are cheap so I give them to civilians and sometimes guards) but one speardwarf immigrated and she brought her own spear .. so I let her keep it.
She served me very well. I thought she'd be at a disadvantage when facing numerous goblins but she struck at them and held them off from all sides to which I assume she swung and spun it around shaolin-style.

Nervous system injuries don't stop a dwarf from going to the firing range if I recall-

This is true. I use some wounded dorfs as marksdorfs because they refuse to sparr. I also use them as guards since they can't become champions and kill criminals as efficiently that way.
However if the dorf has a broken or mangled spine he won't be doing much of anything at all ever again.
