DF General Discussion / Re: Are they just gonna leave it in there?

Plus, your Dwarves walking around with arrows jutting out in all directions just makes them that more badass. Urist SpikeyMayor anyone?

"I got this one during Shorast's wedding! Eh, now where did that dagger come from?"

Sure it LOOKS badass. but putting on the ol' armor becomes quite a chore

I hope this takes us one step closer to finding stomache contents of the butchered animals. "Digested remains" sounds like a cool thing to get. You'd have to set your butchers' shop up near a garbage dump or a refuse stockpile... not that digested stuff is a very entertaining feature in and of itself but once a lion takes a dwarf child or a pet - and butchering it reveals "Catten BeardMountains digested remains" ... then we have a feature I can love.

I'll tear into the new version like a wolf tears into a fresh kill.

 Bugfixes be damned!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How big is your catacomb?
« on: January 27, 2012, 03:29:58 am »
I think that a large catacomb is a good thing... sort of.

If it has been filled with dwarves who died valiantly over the years, each of whom was given time and attention to recieve an ornamental and carefully constructed tomb - then it is good. It becomes a hall of heroes!
If, on the other hand, the fortress is struck with famine, rot or some other disaster upon which most of the population keels over. Then the corpses are rushed into the catacombs and litter the hallways. Nameless dwarves with pointless deaths. It becomes a hall of terror. A reminder of the great cataclysm.

I will build in a evil biome.
I shall interpret the expedition leaders' will through what dieties he/she worships and will model the fort along those wishes.
I shall keep a detailed log over the fort.
I shall make an illustrated fortress diary out of it. With battle segments presented as comics and individual portraits for every single dwarven resident.

 My body is ready.

Those weren't soldiers, those were blind fools you sent on a rat chase.

They were the best of the best!

and by that I mean the blindest of the blind!

Due to a forgotten beast I had a group of blind military once.

I decided to see how well they would perform without their eyeballs so I captured a large rat, released it in the fort and told them to kill it. What followed was a hilarious scooby-doo inspired chase where the rat fled from the 8 dwarves up and down all levels of the fortress. They frequently flashed with little question marks and almost never got close enough to grab the rat - and when they did they always fumbled. The rat tore through the entire fort looking for a way out and at one point the group dogpiled on top of a scared citizen who was somehow pushed into a well.

It only ended when I told the captain of the guard to help out. Blind soldiers are WORTHLESS

The sieges will grow in size and severity. Give it time.

The caverns hold gems and minerals and silk and huge beasts that are either puffs of air or fortress-ending death machines if you're unlucky. Also there are interesting flora and fauna down there and more than a few poisonous things. If you're lucky you can find small settlements of animal people.

This isnt a spam thread. OP posted a simple question, I pointed out how common it was and that it was in the wrong board.

Then OP changed his post and thread name. He did this out of what I assume was embarassment. and I did the same because I didn't want to embarass him. :) Let it die now.

I'm not too concerned about the dwarves... but I'd be mighty pissed if I breed a large animal population only to have it turn undead by some godforsaken rain!

Am currently considering different pasture designs that keeps animals out of the rain. or ... some sort of barn perhaps.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: January 26, 2012, 07:13:40 am »
I couldn't get over my impatience about the next release, so I had to play a little fort.

Met werewolves for the first time. For some reason they've never bothered attacking my dwarves ... until this fort. They only came one by one but the visits became rather frequent.

The first werewolf was shot with a wooden bolt in the face. He died on the spot.
The second werewolf managed to scare some cattle before being shot in the chest, neck and legs. He died quickly.
The third werewolf waited until a pack of rhesus macaques were turned into pincushions and rushed into my ammo-less militia who were armed with only wooden crossbows. He didn't manage to kill anyone; mainly because he tore off my militia commanders dress and ran up and down the fort whipping the dwarves with it and biting one of them in the hand.

The hand was severed and three dwarves went to the hospital with broken ribs and other minor injuries. Good times.
