You'd also get amazon dwarf civs. A whole race of female dwarves. Their marksmen would fling their children as their 26th bolt.

Troll was hit by baby.
Babies skull was crushed
Troll was lightly bruised.

Once you fill the bag with food or sand, lock it away where dwarves can't use it. A bag that's full won't be re-used :D

Wait, I already know this for a fact.

In order to prevent accidentally draining my forge area I tap a higher z-level magma tube and let it fall.

No magma mist was generated by it dropping 1 z-level. Haven't tried dropping it more then that, but from just a single z-level no mist of any kind was formed.

Question, does mist form when you drop water down a ramp?

But it wasn't really legit because you were saving/loading constantly.

I just had the most awesome artifact ever. I can look up the summary in a bit, but basically it's a cobalite earring with bands of cobalite. An artifact worth 3,600 dwarfbucks.

How sad is that? My first set of +steel platemail+ was 6,000 or something like that...

heck, I've seen food worth more then that :(

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The Downward Spiral
« on: March 12, 2009, 01:33:15 pm »
I had just embarked on a great map when a fire imp lept out of the magma pipe and shot a fireball at a camel. The fire caught the world on fire and half the dwarves burned. One of the other dwarves went beserk, killed another dwarf and then ran into the fire.

My last dwarf died deconstructing the wagon, which also caught on fire.

So yeah, I don't know if I'd call it a spiral because this all took about 5 minutes to happen :(

Out the nose maybe? Booger rope?

The well is of questionable quality. It is made of a cum bucket, a shit block, and a snot rope. On it is an engraving of elves and dwarves. The elves are laughing. The dwarves are screaming. This engraving relates to when the dwarves poisoned themselves with this well and the elves snuck in and took all their stuff.

To limit myself (and make things realistic) I

a) Don't put any traps out in the open. Having cage/stone/weapon traps built in the middle of a field seems rather stupid. At most I'll do upright spike traps because those might make sense "realistically" (as realistic as a fantasy game can be) but I mean come on. A stone-fall trap in the middle of an open field? Dwarves are technical geniuses (and masters of camoflauge) if they can pull that off. Not having the stone hidden in a tree or anything, just flat out in the open.

b) Anyway, so no traps out in the open. No fields of traps except as a last resort. No "invincible lock out" strategies. I have drawbridges but I never use them.

c) No magma/water traps. I have a water moat and a magma inne rmoat, but no way to use it unless I get lucky and decide to retract a bridge while enemies are on it. It's mostly there for show and to keep out wild animals.
Basically my entire fort defense relies on marksmen and the "spiral of doom". When the seige comes it gets funneled into a huge windy staircase that goes down many z-levels. Then at the bottom they have to traverse a spiral around a central fortified pillar that contains my marksmen and all the ammo. Basically I station marksmen at every fortification in the central pillar and as the enemies wind around and around and around the marksmen pepper them with bolts. I also have a lever I can pull that seals the entrance/exit. This isn't to keep stuff from getting in, but to keep the gobbos from fleeing to safety!

Anyway, after winding around they get to the stairs, and wind around another spiral (this one is at the same z-level as my central archer pillar, but seperated from it by 2-tile channel and foritifcations to protect the dwarves). And then after that comes the weapon traps. So far nothing has ever gotten to the weapon traps. When they route I just send in my melee'rs to finish the mess.

And then the hauling begins!

You can also search for cliffs yourself. Just hit tab until the local map shows the cliff ratings and look for XTREME CLIFFAGE!

A masterpiece engraveing of a Dwarf the dwarf is engraveing... I had to check, it was indeed an engraving of the engraver engraving the engraving.

Oww My Mind!

Recursion FTW!

So, basically, we don't know?

Pretty much. We can't measure happiness moods so we can't test the effect of differently priced legendary dining rooms.
