Currently most ores are represented by british pounds.  Some, including native aluminum and magnetite are not.  This is potentially confusing for new players. 
I wasnt confused about the ores when I was learning about the game at all. I just ran everything over with the "k" key to see what everything was and then I got used to what things were.

I would describe any creature with sentinence as having a soul. My computer screen wouldnt have a soul because it doesnt think for itself. It doesnt set itself apart from everything else. And it doesnt interact with its surroundings.

Too add a bit of chaos to the land: if the population of certain kinds of animals reach a certain limit per land area, they begin to migrate, herd, or rampage throughout the countryside.
Just wait for locust season.

Am I the only one who steadfastly opposes this?  It doesn't fit into the idea of the player as the fortress planner/manager at all, so I guess I really shouldn't worry about it being implemented.  Every reason in favor of this seems to boil down to "I want to submit dwarves to arbitrary violence on demand," major exception being those rules which should be orders, not laws.  Fort mode != god mode.

Laws are what would seperate fortress from each other. If I want to have some Lawless backwater town then I would be able to remove laws as I wish. Or if I wanted to have some strict regime I would be able to achieve this. It adds more depth to  your fortress and it makes it more yours.

Possibly, in order to add a little bit more depth into the game, I would like to be able to set my own laws.
Dwarves cannot have possession of X object.
Dwarves are not allowed to do X
Dwarves must do X
If Dwarves do not like a law they can appeal it to the manager. If enough of them do not like a specific law they could form a mob and hunt down the noble in charge of it.
Thoughts?

By that same rule of thumb, then, with playable goblins (which are planned) people will whine and moan about not being able to use steel.
We have Steel!?
But seriously I dont normally notice the difference between what different weapons are made of.
Im sure Goblins would be able to plunder some steel from somewhere anyway.
