A thought on child proofing things. Have a new option on doors saying "Adults only", which would basically mean the door handle  is higher up. And new designation "Adults only" would mean any children seen in this spot are taken away. Children will still pull levers, but only if you dont do anything.

After wiring your fortress with complex pipe assemblies, you place another opening on the end of the pipe, which can be set as the "Pipe end", where water/magma comes out of.
Called a tap?
And would it possible to make stone pipes for the magma

So let me ask you this, then: why aren't we required to check every dwarf for tick infestations every time they come in from the outside? Ticks could carry disease, and if a dwarf goes too long without removing the tick, they'd get sick and maybe die. You could have healthcare dwarves standing by the entrance to give every dwarf their physical. After all, parasites are realistic. And anyone who thinks this is a stupid idea just doesn't want to be held responsible for sending dwarves outside without thinking about the parasites that are out there.
But would that be fun? Would that be an aspect of the game that is enjoyable? The entire thing with kids pulling levers is that it would be a random thing that you would have to take into consideration, like being sieged or meeting a megabeast. Its all in the name of fun.

Dwarves are made out of stronger stuff than other humanoids. So it stands to reason that they should survive better when hit by 10 tonnes of magma right?
I like the statue idea but I think that it should only be caused in cases of natural old aging. As dwarves get older they get less agile and creakier, and when they die they finished the transformation into rock.
I like it!
Would the bodies/statues still be put in coffins?

Question: Can a three year old pull a rusty solid platnium  lever. No. So just let them try to pull it, and let them fail.

Some places in the world should be like natural wonders. Something like a grand canyon would be a massive chasm (MASSIVE) or mt. Everest. Places like this would give your dwarves happy thoughts almost permanently.
Any thoughts?

So we choose what to dig and they choose how to dig. Sounds good. It would be awesome to see someone digging in circles.

I could see human nobility being sorely dependent on opium
I could see us wanting to get our dwarf nobility sorely dependent on opium.
I could see us cutting off the dwarf nobilities supply of opium.

Give each world it's own set of causes. This makes it slighty more random and slightly more predictable.

Some dwarves might be immune to morale though. The ones that get pushed into a corner and just will not surrender, fighting against all odds would be examples of this.

DF Suggestions / Re: Do The Undead Have Souls?
« on: June 10, 2009, 01:35:44 am »
It depends on the type of undead. When a creature dies, its soul is supposed to move on to its afterlife. So something that has died and been brought unwillingly back to life e.g. a zombie raised by a necromancer, would not have a soul. It would have the necromancer's will driving it. But a zombie that is restless would have a soul, because obviously its soul hasnt found rest (that is why it is restless).
A vampire would still have its soul becuase it has never died. It has caught a disease, extended its life, been possessed, been infected, or dabbled in dark magic so its has never really "died".
A werewolf (when classed as undead) also still retains its soul becuase it has caught lycanthropy, not death.
A ghost/spirit IS a soul, just without a solid form.
And skeleton's have to be animated by magic, thats what keeps their bones together and gives them strength. Without the magic they are just bones so their soul has already departed.
