So yesterday I had a good time with my 40d9 test fort. Things are coming along well, my outside military outpost is almost completely built (except for lack of siege weapons) etc, I have no unhappy people in my fort, production works, goblins died a lot this year.
Well, just as I was finishing some construction work this one caravan wagon comes zipping in at LIGHT SPEED.

I immediately paused the game and recoded it via fraps. You can view it here:
(im not sure if i should post the images, they would annoy 56k users I guess)
Shorter version, 800kbLonger version, shows the other caravan wagons lagging behind 1.7mbThis was recorded in real time, 30 fps. Yeah, i was rather... surprised by the wagons speed. It did NOT move fast when the caravan left.
So yeah, after those guys left I just kept on building my super secret project. A bit later the humans arrived too... this is where the next oddity striked. A kobold ambush showed up next to them, well nothing too bad. Or so I thought. Apparently the humans were so terrified by the dog faced menace that their wagons did an immediate 180 and ran away again. Way stranger things happened to the single merchants accompanied by their trustful work-animals. Every single of them went insane in a matter of seconds. They went stark raving mad, berserk and were stricken by melanchonly, even the camels. The Human Soldiers who easily slaughtered the Kobolds turned around and quickly finished off the berserk animals and left behind their babbling and suicidal merchants and their equally miserable animal companions, who later just died.

The area where the tragedy happened:
After a while I got the announcements that the merchants were leaving soon, and after I checked they seemed to be already gone. The raving mad and melancholic merchants probably jumped into the next pit or river along the way home, their dead animal companions left me a nice fortune of items though. I wonder if they're gonna siege me for that.
I never had that happen to me before (only worked on 8 or so forts before this one) So i thought it was quite amusing when it happened.
If you want to see (most) of my current fort, I uploaded it here, the remains of the merchant fight should be in the very southeast area on the large plain.
