Other Games / Overgrowth: Ninja Rabbit Combat (Alpha)
« on: April 14, 2010, 11:55:51 am »
What would happen if you combined an RPG, Parkour/Freerunning, Martial Arts, Ninja Rabbits, and plunked it all down in Mythic Asia? Let me tell you about a game called Overgrowth...

Wolfire Games (blog here) is putting together a fantastic-looking Game, currently in alpha, which features gorgeous visuals, great music, and most importantly, procedurally-generated martial combat. It's not the button-mashing of a fighting game either, but strategic punches, kicks, flips, and counters, as well as melee weapon combat. You need to fight intelligently as well, using the terrain to your advantage, etc.

Perhaps coolest of all, the team are obviously very passionate about what they do, and are doing it well. This is why I love Indie Games. They're clearly in it for their love of the craft, and not to make big bucks. In the process, they have created something that contains stunning visuals, versatile modding utilities, and gorgeous music, and great sums of awesome.

General Discussion / Chinese Miners cancel Dig: Unsafe Terrain
« on: April 05, 2010, 11:56:48 am »
Read the story here

Due to seasonal flooding, hundreds of Chinese coal miners were trapped in a coal mine, for about a week. Officials took them for dead, but a few days back people reported hearing  tapping sounds comming from the mine, as the miners attempted to tunnel into an adjacent shaft. Rescue workers were dispatched to drain the water from the mine, and pump air down to the survivors below, and as of today, over 100 miners have been rescued from the mine, with hopes to find more.

According to the accounts I'd heard, during the flood they'd been clinging to the walls while awake, and lashing themselves to support beams at night, to keep them from being swept away into the depths. After the torrent slowed, they were trapped waist-deep in toxic, coal-blackened water for almost a week, and when they finally escaped they were starved and severely dehydrated.

Apparently this sort of thing isn't uncommon either... Chinese mines are reputed to be among the most dangerous in the industrialized world. In the wake of this, the State is commencing a governmental saftey inspection of all mines, so this sort of thing can be avoided in the future.

Call me callous, but hearing this story on NPR totally made me think of all the times I've accidentally pierced the aquifer in DF. I wonder if we'll ever see an in-game model for seasonal flooding, or asphyxiation from being trapped in sealed chambers?

Life Advice / Job Quandry: Money vs. Values
« on: March 11, 2010, 12:19:13 pm »
I'm a student, but also need to work to get by. I live pretty frugally, and save money well, so it's only been an issue on occasion. Just recently, though, everything changed for the better; I started a temporary internship at a nice cushy office. It gives me 40 hours a week, and pays nearly twice what I've gotten in the past. However, the schedule isn't very flexible, the work  is terribly dull, and isn't really related to my field at all.

Meanwhile, I recently got in touch with an old friend, who runs a Wild Bird Rehabilitation facility I used to be an intern at, and she said that they need temporary help there again for the Spring and Summer. It was flexible enough to take classes (which I want to do this Summer), was mentally engaging, was worthwhile work saving wild birds, and was related to my major (Biology). However, the pay was minimum wage, the work was dirty and stressful, and my schedule bounced between starting in the wee hours of the morning or dragging on into the evening.

The office job is nice; for the first time ever, I'm not struggling to get by, and don't have little debts piling up here and there... and yet a good part of me keeps wishing I could be putting another summer in at the Bird Center instead. I can always volunteer there, but I won't be getting the same experience I did as an Intern.

And so, my quandry: my temporary internship with the office will be up in a month or so, but I have the option of staying with them, or going elsewhere. Should I stick with what is better for my finances and long-term stability, or opt for what's better for my mental/spiritual wellbeing, and relevant to my education?

No AIs, No Teams, Human Diplomacy Only, Final Destination Fall From Heaven 2.
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=171398

I'll be starting what ought to be a rather epic Fall From Heaven 2 match this weekend, in which there will be no AIs save for raging Barbarians, relying on human diplomacy only. It'll be playing with the End of Winter challenge, in which the world will start at the end of the ice-age, and will gradually thaw out over time, on a standard-sized continental map (big enough to accomidate the expansion of 9 players). Speed will be Normal, and turns will be timed. Even so, this might well take multiple weekends to finish. In the event that you can't finish a game, you can elect to let another player fill in for you.

You need a fully-patched Beyond The Sword to play, and after that also need to get:
- The Fall From Heaven 2 Mod
- FFH2 Patch 'M'
Optional Extras:
-The Media Pack
- The Blue Marble Texture Patch

I'll be running practice matches beforehand if anyone wants to learn the ropes first. Join us on Hamachi at B12CivIV, and PM me for the password.

Are you a bad enough dude to rewrite human history?

For those of you who have been living under a andesite boulder somewhere, Civilization IV is the latest chapter in the long-running Strategy Game Series by Sid Meyer. If you like the multifacetedness of Dwarf Fortress, you should definitely give it a shot! it charts the course of history, from the beginnings of human settlement all the way through the modern era, where you can explore the world, develop new technologies, build armies and empires, found religious doctrines and new forms of government, or become the dominant culture on the planet through art and technology. It's as epic as anything can possibly get. As an added bonus, it's highly modifiable, and there have been mods published for anything from setting it in a fantasy world, with magic and monsters and epic battles between the forces of good and evil, or setting it on the arid sands of Arakis, and more.

If you're interested in getting a CivIV game together, feel free to use this thread to organize it. If you're interested in playing, what days and times (GMT +/-) work best for you, and what expansions (if any) do you have?

DF Community Games & Stories / Dunelurk : Goblin Tower
« on: February 26, 2010, 02:13:49 pm »
As the days count down until the new version of DF is released, I decided to give a last hurrah to DF Modding as we know it. Playable Goblins, intelligent slave races, goblin critters and weapons, and a fully functional Demon King all await the fortress.

I expect to run this on my own, but if folks are interested in getting on board as a Community/Succession fort, I would be quite down with that.

Across the moonlit sands of the desert, a goblin warband wound a weary trail through rolling dunes. A small lizard scurried under a flat stone, as the heavy footfalls of a troupe of burly trolls shambled along, gibbering amongst themselves as they came.

A goblin dressed in cracked leather, wearing a monsterous iron mask approached the rock, lifted it, and snatched up the lizard. Food, like many things, had grown scarce these last days. Inspecting the wriggling, spiney creature, he lifted his iron mask, and bit off the head with a single snap of his teeth. One of the elven slaves, who had been tending to the oxen, tried to hide a twinge of revulsion. "That's a sign of weakness, reed-chewer" he scoffed, as he bit into the now still remains of the rhino lizard. "It's a luxury that the desert will steal from you, if you are to survive."

Warboss Stasost was no stranger to these sands... when Demon-King Bosa had waged a war against the desert tribes 20 years prior, he had been but a recruit. Through strength and cunning, he had survived the campaign, and earned the privalege of leading the settlement of the new frontier, to which they now trekked.

Their destination was a rain-shadowed desert at the foothills of sharp obsidian crags that rose like black teeth on the northern horizon. The High Priest had named the place "Dunelurk". Whether this was to describe its position in the shadows of the mountian, or for some other reason was something they would have to discover on their own.

Other Games / Bitfighter: Asteroids meets Unreal Tournament
« on: January 09, 2010, 11:53:57 pm »

I just stumbled upon Bitfighter... it's a retro-stylized multiplayer game that combines elements of a squad-based FPS with the gameplay of a top-down SHMUP. You can equip your ship with a custom weapons loadout, and duke it out in Capture the Flag, Deathmatch, and all sorts of other team and free-for-all modes. With weapons such as a reflecting blaster, a concussive grenade, or proximity mines, and 2 special modules that allow you to cloak, perform a long-range scan, repair ships and turrets, and more, there are a lot of pretty cool strategies you can employ. However, it is only multiplayer, and there are no real AIs (yet), so it's hard to get a chance to play.

Has anyone else given this game a shot yet? Also, to those of you who haven't, does it look interesting enough to try and get people together to give it a shot some day?

DF Modding / [INTELLIGENT] pets act as Civilization Members
« on: October 22, 2009, 08:13:37 pm »
Whilst fiddling around with a Dark Goblin Fortress mod, I discovered something rather peculiar; Tame creatures with [CAN_SPEAK] and [CAN_LEARN] (or [INTELLIGENT]) that are brought along at Embark are treated almost the same as your Civilization members. This was tested with Beastmen, when given the [PET] tag, but the theory should apply to anything tame and intelligent.

  • They will perform certain Labors they are enabled to do, such as Fishing, Conversation, or Hunting, though their current job always says "Tame".
       i. They can't construct buildings, or use workshops
  • When not working, they gather in Meeting Areas, at Parties, etc.
  • They can form relationships, but only with other Tame members of their species.
  • They require food and water, and will seek it out on their own.
  • They can be Pitted or Chained as with other animals.
  • If they are trained (or even partially trained) as War or Hunting creatures, they appear to be lobotomized, and lose their Sentience.
       i. They can no longer perform labors, and begin following their Trainer/Owner.
ii. If their Owner dies, they stay put after performing whatever their last action was (usually drinking or eating).
iii. They no longer form relationships or chat.
  • They can be assigned as Military units, and assigned equipment individually.
       i. They don't show up in the Military menu, and thus can't be given orders, or sorted into squads.
ii. Once assigned, they can't be dismissed from Military Duty.
  • They can be appointed to an administrative position via the menu, but once the menu is closed the position will become Vacant.

RULES:
Players have 4 weeks, and up to 8 In-Game Years to complete their Fortresses. After Fortresses are completed, they will be judged by a panel of partial, subjective, and somewhat fickle Judges. You must impress them with your Mastery of all things Dwarf Fortress in order to win.

1) You must be using the standard, Vanilla (unmodified) DF 0.28.181.40d, though anything within 40d is okay to use. This means no Orcs Mod, cat mouth-hands, Hungerless Dwarves, etc. Not only can it give you an unfair advantage (read: cheating) that ruins the competitive spirit of the game, entries that aren't 100% Vanilla won't properly load on Judges' computers, and thus have to be disqualified.

2) Similarly, you must not use external tools which can alter the world, the state or behaviors of an individual Dwarf (I.E Dwarf Foreman/Manager/Companion), etc. External Tools that are designed to report information are ONLY allowed if there is no other way to get the information: for instance, viewing Tile Temperature, or Full Combat Text is permissible, but using a tool like Reveal to see stone layers is not, since you can uncover that information through exploratory mining. Tools used to to visualize your fortress, etc. are okay too, so long as they do not alter the game or reveal information you would otherwise be able to discover (Revealing Tiles, etc.)

3) For this challenge, the Conduct Caveat is that you cannot breach the Aquifer via the Magma Pipe. If your Fortress includes any stairs or ramps allowing passage through the Magma Pipe's Obsidian Cast, and through the aquifer layers, your map will be disqualified.

4) No Savescumming allowed. You may only Rollback your fortress to the last Spring, and only if it crumbles, or is otherwise made unplayable (completely flooded, completely lagged or bugged, or if you lose all tools, or your dwarves are all rendered armless. Again, in these cases you may only Rollback to the last nearest Spring, or restart the fortress from scratch. For this reason, you'd best set the game to autosave every Spring.

5) Modding Exception: You may, if so inclined, make Beak Dogs [PET_EXOTIC]. Justification is that tame Beak Dogs are already in the game (see Goblin Mounts), but the means by which to do so have not yet been added.

Before anyone gets upset, this rounds Survival Challenge was to stick the players in a completely different situation than they had prepared for, to see how well they could survive. The first map was to get your guard down... hopefully the challenge this poses to your survival wont dissapoint! All water is Saline, the surroundings are Terrifying, and there is a 2 layer Aquifer keeping you from anything but wood. Oh, and you're right next to a Magma Pipe. :P

Luckily, I went with the fairly Jack of All Trades embark profile posted by Nevyn, as he made the best effort to compromise and keep it playable. At any rate, the map is up, and players can commence! I will be back this evening with a Proper Map Archive map for spectators and such, and PMs for all players, but for now I must go to work.

P.S. Yes indeed, I did stay up all night getting this together, and now I have to work an 8 hour shift while sick. You all better have thanked me at least twice by the time I get back, or I'm adding a 5 Skeletal Titan penalty to your map! ;D

Overview:
DF Masters is a Fortress Mode competition held between Dwarf Fortress players, who compete for points in a predetermined Scenario. Players earn points based on completing Objectives, and based on scoring by their peers. Each Scenario will have unique rules and scoring methods, but in general scoring will be based on things like Exported Wealth, Population, Kills, Noble Tier, and so on, and will also be judged on traits such as the Organization, Beauty, Toughness, and Originality of the Fortress.

Round 1 will begin with Competitors, who have from July 4th-18th to construct their Fortress. They have exactly 5 in-game years to build their Fortress, after which they must save their Map file, and upload it to the DFFD for peer review and Judging. Judges then grade each Competitor's Fortress, and the winner gets INTERNET FAME... and perhaps a mysterious prize!

Good luck to all Competitors, have Fun, and may the best Dwarf win!

Rules and Guidelines:
1. Competitors must use the the Map file located at the DFFD link above.
2. You have exactly 5 in-game years to build your Fortress and prepare it for judging, from Spring (1st of Granite) of 1000 until Spring (1st of Granite) of 1005.
3. Make sure to save a backup copy for each Spring of every year of your Fortress. These are not used for scoring, and are instead for charting each competitor's progress, and for Emergency Rollbacks as described below.
4. Savescumming is NOT allowed. You may ONLY roll the Fortress back 1 year, and only under special circumstances with GM approval (if your fortress has completely crumbled, or is no longer playable due to program error, for instance)
5. Aside from graphics-related mods, you must be running the standard, unmodified version of Dwarf Fortress v0.28.181.40d, as found on http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/
6. Enemies, Sieges, and Hostile Animals must be able to path into your Fortress at all times. This means that you may not have your Fortress completely sealed during an attack, such as with a dry moat and drawbridge. Traps halls that will kill every enemy are allowed, so long as enemies can find a path through them. The ONLY exception to this rule is if you haven't yet bridged the rivers, and an enemy is on the opposite side.
7. 5 parts of your fortress will be judged as your "Projects". You may select 4 of them when you finish the Fortress, with the 5th being The Bridge described below. A project can be anything, such as a nicely-engraved main hall, an artistic bit of Fortress Design, a counting machine, an aqueduct, an execution pit, a guard tower, or so on. Creativity is encouraged, as is a plan!
8. You must build a bridge/bridges which cross the Major River, which will count as one of your Projects. It doesn't necessarily have to be one big conventional bridge, so long as something  allows units and goods to travel back and forth to either side of the Major River.

Scoring Objectives:
Judges rate each of the following categories on a 0-5 scale:
  • Terrible (0/5): It doesn't meet expectations at all.
  • Poor (1/5) : Not very good, it needs serious work.
  • Fair (2/5): Moderate, but could use some improvement.
  • Good (3/5): Nice, though it can be made a little better.
  • Great (4/5): Very nice, it's everything it needs to be.
  • Superb (5/5): Amazing, it goes beyond expectations.

Scoring Categories:
Rate the following categories using the above system. The scores in each separate category are multiplied by 5, and awarded as points to the Competitor. Also, the Fortress to score the highest in each category will receive a 10-Point Bonus. In the event of a tie, points will be split. As you rate each category, include why you scored that category as such. A sentence or two will do, but you're welcome to write as much as you'd like!

1a) Main Project - The Bridge:
On a scale of 0-5, rate the bridge. You can rate it on its construction, on the design, on how innovative it is, or on whatever other criteria you determine.

1b) 4 Minor Projects:
On a scale of 0-5, rate each of the remaining projects individually. Does it do something neat? Something new? Is it impressive? Is it awesome? These scores are completely up to you, and measure pure Dwarfyness!

2) Layout:
On a scale of 0-5, rate how efficient, orderly, and functional the Fortress is. Are workshops and stockpiles neatly organized, or are they a sprawling and haphazard? Are the halls clean, or lined with loose stone and ore? Are Dwarves constantly running into other dwarves and their animals in cramped hallways, or are they able to move around quickly to wherever they're going?

3) Beauty:
On a scale of 0-5, rate how pretty the Fortress is. Is the layout impressive, artistic, or imposing? Does it have a detectable theme? Are the halls smoothed and decorated with engravings, or are they bare and sparse? Are their neat architectural bits, or is everything made of squares?

4) Toughness:
On a scale of 0-5, rate how defensible and strong the Fortress is. Is it more like a Tank, or a Piņata? Are there thick walls topped with fortifications and archers? Is it armed to the teeth with traps, or does it make use of highly-trained guards? Is it defended with something special, like trained Giant Eagles or a treacherous trap?

5) Industry:
On a scale of 0-5, rate, rate how industrious the Fortress is. Are there a great variety of crafts being made, or is there a single high-tier focus? Are there many products at all, and are they any good? What resources have been taken advantage of, and in what ways? Is there a Cheese or Lye Maker who is employed in actual cheese/lye making?

6) Creativity:
On a scale of 0-5, rate how original and ingenious the Fortress is. Is something different about the Fortress? Does it do things in new ways, or take advantage of aspects of the map unexpectedly? Are things done with the usual techniques, or with something extraordinary?

Bonus Points: (GM)
Bonus points will be granted by me based on certain criteria, and including Exported Wealth, Notable Kills, High Population or Happiness levels, Artifacts, Surviving Nobility, Legendary Skills, Fortress Tier (Barony, Dutchy, etc), and more.

Favorite Fortress:
After you have finished scoring, select one Fortress that is your favorite overall. That fortress will receive a 5 Point Bonus.

Final Score:
When all judges have submitted their scores, or on August 2nd, Judge's Scores will be totaled by me, Bonus Points will be awarded, and the winner will be determined. Judge Scores will be made public, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place contestants will receive a Prize of Indefinite Value. Judges who complete their duty will also be awarded a little prize too! :P

** If you have a proposal for another Category, or there is one that isn't covered, feel free to suggest it!

- If the target is a Hobbit, they become the new Ringbearer, and gain the Ringbearer Powers (but may not use them on the same Night).
- If the target is a Man or Nazguls' Agent, they become the new Ringbearer, and the Forces of Mordor win.

Frodo Baggins: (Hobbit, Unique) A Hobbit who bears the One Ring, he possesses willpower enough to resist it's corruption.
- He begins as the Ringbearer, and knows the identity of Sam.
- Willpower (Special): He has a 50% chance of using the Invoke Ring power safely, without losing the power or having his identity betrayed. He will be informed if this power is successful or not.

Samwise "Sam" Gamgee: (Hobbit, Unique) A simple, but brave Hobbit, he protects his friends at any cost.
- He knows the identity of Frodo.
- Guardian (Night/Day): Once per day, if the target is going to be killed, Sam is killed instead. He may use it during the Day to take their place at the Gallows, or during the Night to be Killed instead of them.

Peregrin "Pippin" Took: (Hobbit, Unique) A curious and adventurous Hobbit, he tends to make trouble for others.
- He knows the identity of Merry.
- Interfere (Night): Any power that the target player uses this Night fails.

Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck: (Hobbit, Unique) A cautious and perceptive Hobbit, he keeps a wary eye on others.
- He knows the identity of Pippin.
- Watch (Night): If his target uses an ability on another player, he receives that player's identity.

Strider: (Man, Unique) A Ranger of the North, who seeks to find and protect the Ringbearer.
- Track (Night): Determine whether the Target is a Man, a Hobbit, or a Nazgul's Agent.

Regular: (Man OR Hobbit) A regular guest at the Prancing Pony.

Drunkard "Strider": (Man) A man with a reputation for drunken delusions.
- He doesn't know his true Role, and instead believes himself to be Strider.
- Track (Night): Target appears to be a Man, a Hobbit, or a Nazgul's Agent at random.

Drunkard "Hobbit": (Hobbit) A hobbit with a reputation for drunken delusions.
- He doesn't know his true Role, and instead believes himself to be a Unique Hobbit, selected at random.
- He will believe that he has the Unique Hobbit's power, and will believe it works as normal, though secretly it will not.
- He will believe that their partner is a matching Drunkard "Hobbit", or a Nazguls' Agent.
- A Nazgul's Agent partner will be informed of their identity and supposed Role.

Forces of Mordor:
Win: If the Ringbearer is killed,
Or the Ring is entrusted to a Man or Nazgul's Agent,
Or the Forces of Mordor outnumber the Free Peoples.
Lose: When all the Forces of Mordor are defeated.

Nazguls' Agent: (Nazguls' Agent) Rumors are told of Dark Riders stalking the streets of Bree at night... and of the dark-hearted townsfolk meeting with them in secret.
- All Nazguls' Agents know one another.
- Each Night, the Nazguls' Agents confer, electing one of their number to mark a player for the Nazgul to attack.
- If the Nazguls' Agent leading the attack is targeted by Pippin, their target is not attacked.

Spy (Man, Unique): This Inn-goer is actually a spy for Sarumon, seeking to contact and inform the Nazguls' Agents.
- Spy (Night): Determine the target's Race and supposed Role (Drunkards will show up as the Role they believe they are).

Neutral Parties:
Win: Whether the forces of Mordor, or the Free Peoples are victorious.
Lose: If they are killed.

Barliman Butterbur: (Man, Unique) The Innkeeper of the Prancing Pony. Although he is a good-natured sort, his foremost concern is to keep his Inn intact.
- Does not count towards either team's total for the purpose of Victory Conditions.
- Innkeeper (Automatic Day): He learns the identity, but not the role, of a Regular, Drunkard "Strider", Strider, or Spy each Day, chosen at random.

DF Modding / 3D GUI for DF [Discussion & Development]
« on: May 01, 2009, 11:37:07 pm »
Current Poll: Which of the following is your favorite Ramp Style?

I was fiddling around with Isometric Pseudo-3D Tile Graphics this afternoon, and came upon a rather interesting idea. I know that Map Data can be retrieved from Dwarf Fortress, and interpreted (as with the 3Dwarf 3D Fortress Visualizer). Also, as with Macro-Writing Programs, I know that commands can be passed back to Dwarf Fortress program as well.

With this knowledge, and with a strong desire to do some Isometric Tiles, I set about slapping together a mockup of a Dwarf Fortress GUI. The idea is to run the program alongside Dwarf Fortress, interpreting the map data as a graphical display, and interpreting user input (including point-and-click input, such as selecting a Workshop from a drop-down menu, and mousing it over to wherever you wanted it built) back into the Dwarf Fortress program.

I imagine it looking something like this:

What do you think? I know that Graphics are a touchy subject for both players and the development team, and need to be handled with care lest they cheapen the immersiveness of the text. Still, I know this sort of GUI is at least partially feasible, and this example could provide aid in visualizing the complex 3D terrain that makes up DF maps in ways that the top-down ASCII view cannot.

Also, I am an amateur programmer at best, and though I know enough to see potential, I have no idea how to go about retrieving the needed data in order to create a GUI. Does anyone have suggestions or ideas, or perhaps can provide information on how DF Maps are encoded?

Life Advice / Dropping out of College
« on: April 15, 2009, 12:22:51 pm »
I am exceedingly poor. I grew up in a trailor in a single-parent household, and even 22 years later, after a move, my mother remarrying, and an abrupt departure from my parent's home almost 3 years ago, I still have next to nothing. I am a college student as well, and so far have been paying my way through scholarships, savings from what menial jobs I've had over the years, and the intermittent financial support of my father, step-father, and mother.

However, my scholarships have run out, 2 of my parents are out of work, I lost my last job, and with the US economy such as it is (Michigan having one of the highest unemployment rates in the country), I am having great difficulty finding more. I've been desperately looking for anything, and in the meantime have been selling my blood plasma to afford food and transportation, have been helping a friend pay rent and utilities in order to sleep on his living room floor, and have once even turned to petty theft (and I am nothing but sorry about that).

The way I've been keeping sane is through College... it's been providing a hopeful future for me, where I can get out of the mess I'm in, giving me the option to do work in biological research in a lab or the field, or any of a number of things. It'd make me exceedingly happy, and would help me repay my family and friends for their help in getting me where I am. However, with things as they have been: working full-time for minimum wage in addition to 12 Credit Hours of school per week, with my economic situation such as it is, and the usual stresses that life hands you, I've been finding it harder and harder to focus adequate time on it, and for it have failed out of several classes, costing me nothing short of several thousand dollars.

I'm considering student loans, but those won't pay for food and rent, and the one chance I had at a Lab Position (which I was qualified and accepted for) had conflicts with my school schedule... and the position paid $20.00+ hourly part-time, with potential to advance to full-time research. Ironically, being a student kept me from a research job.

I'm essentially trying to decide what I should do now. I have this month's rent and food covered from my tax refund, and have 2 potential jobs in the works, but I'm getting desperate. I could quit College now, and commit my time to work, but I know that would make getting back into college much more difficult. However, I've failed my last 3 classes, and school is becoming a huge money sink for me. If I can't commit the time to my classes that they need, I'm afraid this will only continue to happen as my coursework gets harder.

Basically, I need advice.

DF Modding / Solifuge's Extended Fantasy Music Pack
« on: March 12, 2009, 08:51:31 pm »
Since I've found myself muting the background audio of DF more often than not, I decided to slap together this collection of tracks to play in the background:
http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=890

There are 6 tracks, roughly 30 minutes in all, written by Fantasy/Electronic composer Yakoff "Ivory" Oskanoff, of ImpulseTracker fame. The tunes are written to musically describe a fantasy setting, and are tracked using an old-school audio format that lends it a certain synthy quality, both making them fit Dwarf Fortress rather well.

Instructions for installation are found at the DFFD link above.
