General Discussion / Re: I like anime, do you like anime?

Haven't properly watched the new Berserk yet or anything, but WOW is the CGI in the promos weird and clunky. I love the crosshatched shading (very manga, much stylistic), but the framing and camera work is awkward, and the poses and expressions look kinda wooden. Wonder if they were matching their CGI technique to the original decade too?

I just want to put my grasses on again.

My friends and I mondegreened that whole intro song when we were young'uns. It's still a Meme we use.

The world's shittiest Space Infographic (Note: Very Big Image)

This was for personal use as a visual reference and data set, but my friends liked it well enough. Figured I'd share it. All the photos are to scale with one another, as are all the tiny colored pixel planets and moons (the ones at the top, or near the data where the arrows are pointing). There's no scale Sun photo because reasons; specifically, look at the pixel-scale circles at the top, then look at the photo of Jupiter. Alternatively, Earth is to Jupiter as Jupiter is to the Sun.

I really appreciate you sharing these context tidbits, chaoticag. I might eventually have eventually been able to piece together the title pun from knowing the meaning of Kirigami, but I just thought the title was being edgy by using Engrish! ><;

The Fashion/Fascism thematic pun is a bit oblique, but how friggin cool is that? This is a setting in which clothing literally creates a rigid social system and enables an absolute authority figure to have power over it. Dude!

Time to atone for my lifelong Black Thumb. This year, I'm going to grow veggies AND THEY'RE GONNA LIVE DAMMIT!

Also, for an early Father's Day Dinner, I grilled up some burgers with my brother, made some guacamole, and completed my second attempt at a from-scratch Lemon Tart. This time, I didn't bork the crust, and the whipped cream isn't butter!

Spoiler: Yatta! (click to show/hide)

Tru, to IcyTea's point; when my grandma started talking about some young guy who came out of nowhere and started trying to buddy up to her, I was kind of suspicious. When I heard he'd started asking about family property and such, I started making sure to be around when he was around. Seemed to put a stop to the shady stuff as far as I can tell. Might help here, if you can swing it.

Looking pretty Studio Ghibli there, Nintendo.

Not that I'm complaining.

Mononoke Hime the Adventure RPG is kind of my dream game. ._.;

...ah, yeah. Alternatively, maybe that interpretation of Kill la Kill is so blatantly obvious, it's not worth mentioning! Forgot that possibility. :3

Maybe it's a stretch, or you don't agree, or revelations in future episodes of Kill la Kill will make this all look pretty stupid in hindsight, but there you have it!

You got that luluco reference backwards :P

Yeah yeah, I know it came out later. Asynchronous storytelling, though!

Quick Notes: (EDIT: Sorted into easier to read categories, because I care :D)

1. The same way any law passes; following political discussions, grassroots campaigns, in response to tragedies, etc.

2. There are people who choose to obey the law. Most people, in fact.

3a. People have complied with buyback programs before. They're effective.
3b. To illustrate; People don't get pulled over for having open liquor bottles, not wearing seatbelts, or talking on cellphones in places where that's illegal, yet they are given tickets for these when pulled over for other offenses. Police wouldn't search houses at random for illegal firearms, but would confiscate any they found during other Warranted searches.
3c. Er... I really don't foresee many people resorting to shootouts with police over keeping their guns. People might fantasize about it, sure, but it's absolutely moronic to start a fight that can only end in prison or your death.

I'm pretty behind on mainstream animoo, but figured it's time to check out Trigger.
You are in for a treat sir. "Made by Trigger" has literally become a reason to be on my watchlist.

Kill La Kill is easily the greatest thing humankind has ever conceived of, so you should probably watch everything else first or you'll just be disappointed it isn't more KLK.

Just 1 episode in so far, and really digging the grim hardass of a protagonist, and the whole Bizarro Dystopian High School aesthetic they've got going on. Pretty sure I noticed the Life Threads from Luluco in them boxing gloves too. The whole "Makes your desires manifest" thing, and these special uniforms that seem to be doing the same thing. HMMM.

That comes from the results of genetic testing one of my siblings recently had done. Finland and GB were known from my Mom's side, but Eastern Europe and Ireland were a bit of a surprise. Helps explain the reddish-auburn hair that runs in the family, and how my dad and brother's beards are speckled with red and brown at the same time.

I kinda want to do this now, though I'd like to get a more detailed report on medical risk factors and such. How neat is it to live in an era when we can do this kinda stuff?

Even if you feel powerless, you need to take steps to cure yourself of the idea that you're a passive player in your own life. You can make choices and change things, even if they're little things. One step at a time. Excelsior, and all that.

Why hasn't anyone here discussed the LGBT or terrorism angle? It's not like those parts aren't important. In fact they are probably just as important as the gun part. Or would a conversation about all three defy an easy argument?

It's hard for me to think of what can even be said. Dogma of any form, when people treat it as an unquestionable thing, and thus treat actions done in it's name as unimpeachably moral and just... when used as such, Dogma can certainly be used to make horrible things happen. Nothing about Dogma is innately horrible, but it has this weakness. Honestly, we all have this weakness to some degree; it's a facet of being Human and believing anything.

Every one of us, whatever our philosophies and experiences and opinions, must be sure that we treat our own feelings and knowledge as fallible. This goes for people who treat Science as unimpeachable as well. We can approach truth always, but we can't know it. When confronted, we have to be able to think to ourselves that we may be mistaken.

...unless you meant talking specifically about certain religious extremist groups incensing others to kill people on the basis of whom they love or what they believe. In which case, all I have to say is to respond to them with love too. Every fundamentalist I've known, underneath xenophobia or cruelty... underneath these they act fundamentally out of a fear of others, of death, and of the uncertainty of the world. To them, their faith is a community of allies, and a rock in a storm. The only way to combat dogmatic violence is to help individuals discover that, contrary to what those preaching their Dogma may say, we are not their enemies. We are all weathering the same stormy mortal world together, and as terrifying as it may seem it is also beautiful and meaningful, and that we can better face it when we stand together.

I've enough tucked away to kill my student loans entirely in one lump. I would not have money if I did, but if I did, I would not have student loans. I would not have a ten-year repayment plan and would not run up an extra four thousand in interest. I've had the terror of loans hanging on my head all through college, but I've worked during school and landed a job now that I've graduated and the fearsome, monolithic beast that loomed so heavy in my eyes looks more like a shadow cast on a wall now. I've been really, really fortunate.

But seriously. I can be free!

And then I can go buy a motorcycle!

Isn't that feeling awesome? I finally killed the last of my Federal loans a month or two ago. Can't afford to do the same for the State loans yet, but yeah. As stupid as the whole system is, and as much as I regret ever taking out loans, it's good to be that much closer to being past this phase of my life.

And soon, I too can buy a motorcycle. I'm thinking some kinda Vespa, because I am a closet European.
