Webadict is Captain Keyes from Halo, uniform and all, except with a small gold crown.  The sort of crown that, instead of demanding respect, merely represents respect which is already earned and received.
Pre- or post-Flood?

I don't think flood biomass is official UNSC uniform.  Though it would explain the ridiculous numbers of human-flood running about!
Also, good luck putting a crown on that monstrosity.

I would be highly entertained to hear/see what I look like in your minds.

You're a tall figure in brown leather, wearing a hood from which a single red light glows.  And you have a small concealed pistol in your jacket.  You're standing in a dead forest at night, on a mound of dirt.  There's a full moon in the background that you were facing, before turning your head to look at me.

That's the image I get, anyway.  Apparently I don't see you as a penguin at all!

Vector, I saw as British for some reason.  Also a pile of fruit.  I don't think you're actually British, not sure where that came from, maybe because you're so literary?

Siquo just looks like Invader Zim, except smart.  A smart Invader Zim is very scary to think about.

Webadict is Captain Keyes from Halo, uniform and all, except with a small gold crown.  The sort of crown that, instead of demanding respect, merely represents respect which is already earned and received.

quinnr is an invisible ghost (:

Solifuge looks like me, clean-shaven and with a beret.

I have no idea what SHAD0Wdump looks like, despite RTD'ing with him.

Um so, what do I look like?  (:

Get out of the chariot, flick the switch, and test-fire at the mountains.
Your gonna kill us aren't you?

Oh well! At least this could make for some excitement!
You have no idea... *Insert maniacal laughter here*

Excitement is the idea, haha! :D

I'm on Cycle NC right now, thought I'd have to post by phone (costs per meg ugh) but managed to score some internet, yay!
Got sunburned though.  Oh bitter irony!  I hope my character fares better than I!

... What Generator? :-X

I made those fields with raw arcane magic, there is nothing left of them after they shattered.

Oh, my bad.  I thought they were a feature of the chariot, didn't read carefully enough.  Ok then!

I continue to stare at the beautiful magma oceans, searching for any imperfections that would indicate a point of interest.

That's why DT is such a great tool for a lot of DF. It adds the things DF lacks in terms of functionality: full mouse support and quickly moving between information fields.
Don't forget the funny error messages and progress bars. Everything needs more progress bars :)

Error messages?  What error messages?  (:

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: The Little Questions Thread
« on: April 07, 2010, 10:20:41 am »
Speaking of the new version, I'd like to propose keeping questions regarding it out of this thread. There's already a separate thread for DF2010-related "little questions", and things are bound to get chaotic if people don't use it, especially since some of us are still using legacy versions and asking questions accordingly.

Yeah, this is a good idea.  The thread owner should mention this in the thread title.

Here's a couple of d40-related questions of my own:
1. Do dwarves gain experience - and hence stats - after hitting legendary +5 in a given skill? The fact that in adventure mode it still counts your wrestling experience, even if you're way past l+5, seems to hint at that. It also seems to imply that you'd get more stats (I mean, more experience does seem to entail stat increases). The reason I am skeptical is that I seem to recall not seeing any stat increases in dwarves who hit a fey/secretive mood after already being l+5 in the relevant skill.

Sort of solved. Looking at the experience requirements for stat gains, it makes sense that a multi-legendary dwarf would require more than 20k (the amount gained via fey or secretive mood) for a stat gain.

Yes, dwarves keep gaining experience and stats for doing a job they are legendary + 5 in.  In many cases they gain experience faster, since they are doing the job faster.  In this thread:
http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=48319.0
I studied which jobs gave experience the fastest over several years.

Ah sorry, I reread your post a few times but couldn't really understand what you were asking for.  So I guessed.  What's the matter with enchanting the shields while you summon the cannon?
Helps if the shields are there...

Oh, ok, I see now.  But I'm not trying to enchant the protective field (which I guess is off), I'm trying to improve the shield generator.  I'm an engineer, after all.  It might even be easier to work on the generator while it's not actively running.

(I realize I was vague before.  I didn't remember the shields were down, actually.)

16945
Bam, edited!
Not to seem pressing but... It kinda amounts to the same thing now. >_>

I realize that magma, while very pretty, is also dangerous so I focus on making the shields resist fire.
Hmm... maybe you should re-word to say your making the shield yourself? Kinda summoning a cannon here...

Bam, edited!

Oooooh, magma.

...

Right, looks like the inside of *some* planet anyway.  Particularly if this truly is magma, and thus underground.

Those rocky islands look interesting!  How big are they, like town-sized or single-palm-tree sized or what?

I realize that magma, while very pretty, is also dangerous.  I again try to make the shields good at protecting us from fire.

I continue to stare at the beautiful magma oceans, searching for any imperfections that would indicate a point of interest.

Awesome! I wanted this bad enough I thought I'd post to say thanks and share my experiences with it so far.

I was so happy to see this, then I started it up...
... and noticed there was only one miserable clothier dwarf with no skills.

I promptly smacked my head against the desk and muttered, "This hasn't been made to work in Windows XP yet, has it?"  :(

The reasoning behind that thought? I saw this.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Ah well, back to the default method for just a while longer. Still, kudos for giving us a version that at least some of us can use.  ;)

Interesting, I'm running it on XP and didn't get those warnings in my log.  Viewing and setting jobs seems to be working fine, after minimal testing, except that I can see my Countess, Countess Consort, and "Merchant Baroness" though they haven't arrived.  I only have 18 dwarves.  More amusing than troublesome, possibly even a feature (:

I don't know what could be causing your trouble ):  I'm using an unmodified download of df_31_01.

Once again, thank you Chmod!  Fifteen thanks from me to you!

I didn't think I was away from this topic a whole 30 minutes, but clearly I was!  Thanks for rushing this out, we really appreciate it (:
