has anyone tried out the realism mods, like the one that involved hypothermia and eating and sleeping? Forgot the name but I think there is an all-inclusive realism mod out there, read it a few weeks ago.

Anyone tried it? Does it add fun and challenge or just a tedious chore. Not sure how that would play out.

I'm currently playing with the following: Imps More Complex Needs(hunger, thirst, sleep deprivation, food poisoning) and Frostfall(hypothermia). To me it's not at all tedious and adds a lot of immersion. There is so much food in the game that you run at little to no risk of running out. Occasionally I would eat raw meat and get sick because of it. Hypothermia is more dangerous. You have to be careful for example if you get wet in a cold biome you can freeze to death and the malus from being cold makes combat difficult.

Life Advice / Re: QUANTUM TUNNELING

That pretty much sums it up but with much better wording than the OP.

Also I would like to overstate the futility of trying to "understand" Q-M by describing its processes using intuitive common-life terms. It is much safer to simply take their mathematical implications at face value rather than attempt make intuitive what is inherently unintuitive.  Our senses are what we use to describe our surrounding nature and they were not evolutionarily designed to perceive the world in the way it "truly" is on a microscopic level but rather to maximize our chances of survival. This is why the more intricate properties of reality are so difficult for us to understand.

You are trying to apply quantum mechanics to a macroscopic system which leads to your confusion.

Q-M applies only in systems where energy and momentum are near to the Plank constant. In the case of a ball and a wall the energies we are dealing with are orders of magnitude greater so you use classic mechanics.  In macroscopic systems classic physics adhere to the postulates of Q-M .

In the case of nuclei there is a certain probability that the nucleon will tunnel through the potential barrier created by strong nuclear forces and cause the nucleus to collapse. This can be observed in macroscopic systems as the half-life of elements.

General Discussion / Re: Ideas for a roguelike.
« on: March 28, 2012, 03:17:00 pm »
You wanted random ideas so here you are.

Not so long ago I messed with the idea of making a humorous hack and slashy roguelike based on time travel. Different playable classes would come from different ages. You could be a time traveling medieval wizard, modern scientist or futuristic commando. Each one would have different mechanics for warping through time as well as a different end goal. Gameplay would revolve around arriving at random time period / locations combinations and trying to find a way to trigger a time warp to the next zone.

Obviously every time travel gimmick/ cliche would be free game here. Taking a major action/killing a unique character in levels placed in the past would effect all levels placed in the future. The basic ideas I had were for example to have the far future controlled by either a malevolent AI with cyborg minions or a man made distopia with thought police depending on whether the player destroys a random laptop in the present. Or having the player easily defeat an aged old geriatric dragon in the middle ages only to later be teleported to prehistoric times and face him again in his prime and much more dangerous.

I'm currently looking into some Skyrim mods. I must say that the mod support on Steam is outstanding. You can browse through a workshop filled  with mods and mod compilations and subscribed to the ones you want and they will automatically be installed. i think Valve and Bethesda might have realized that good mod support can greatly increase the longevity of a single player title. Even people who pirated it will now find themselves tempted to buy the game at a bargain price just to get access to the workshop.

I'm going to try out some mods centered around survival that add hunger, thirst, sleep and hypothermia to the game along with maybe some combat overhauls to make it more deadly.

There are tons of interesting mods so soon after release.  I think anyone will find something they like.

It's nice that they added the option to play as Pagans/Muslims in CK2 with only minimal option changes. Currently however they play exactly like Christians which is kind of silly.

I hope we'll get an expansion/update someday that fleshes out the Heathens that correctly models their hierarchy, harems, alliances and succession laws.

I reccomend shock therapy.

Play MoBA games like HoN, LoL or DoTA.

You will either rage so hard at your incompetent teammates you'll have a stroke or you'll learn not to treat competitive video games too seriously.

All xp and tokens earned and spent previously are refunded. Now everyone will have access to the Soldier, Pathfinder and Juggernaut class.

I started a thread not so long ago about ports of classic pc games to Android and other mobile operating systems: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=98997.msg2902084#msg2902084

I actually got Baldurs Gate 2 to work on my Samsung Galaxy S2.

I'm mainly excited for it because I've been wanting a version of World of Goo for my phone. The other three are just a bonus at this point.

Same but with Osmos. Instead of paying 5$ for that on Android Market I pay 5$ to the bundle and get the other games as a bonus.
