Build a house. Rig your house so it can transform into a vehicle. Crash your house-vehicle. Rebuild your house vehicle, twice as big and twice as awesome, then crash it again!

Some news.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Herossong/comments/41wf1g/john_smedley_ceo_of_pixelmage_games_amaa/

Smedley has opened a reddit thread where he is answering questions. A lot of questions answered already.

Also, a new kickstarter tier at $15 for just the game, and every tier $25 and over now gives two copies of the game.

Roughly 10% of the way through their campaign and they've raised 10% of their requested amount.

Dunno whats wrong with people not liking permadeath lol.

The general thinking of people disliking permadeath is that they don't want their time and effort to disappear, and they don't want to repeat the same early-game content over and over.

Now ideally, a good RPG should have a combat system with dynamic systems that keep things interesting on repeated playthroughs. Sadly, this is often not the case. In many RPG's, the only possibility of seeing something unexpected is when you've progressed to a new area and found new enemies, which is tedious to do without checkpoints or save-states.

The trailer for Hero's Song is not entirely clear, but the impression I got was that it is intended to be played in weeks and months, not minutes and hours. Most people don't enjoy the idea of spending weeks adventuring, dying to ignorance as they encounter some new unexpected mechanic, and then being faced with several more weeks of repeating the exact same content before getting another chance to progress. Of course, Hero's Song does boast a Dwarf-Fortress-like world generator which might allow for unique experiences on each play-through, but there's just not enough information to determine how entertaining repeat plays will be at this point.

Speaking of this, how's EQNext coming along? I know they're not really related, other than Smedley once being in charge of EQ.

I guess I could go find and bump its thread, or Delve the Internet.

Basically, after the launch of Landmark beta, updates and news became very slow for about a year, then completely stopped, without any explanation or expectations for renewed development. At this point it's been about 8 months since anyone heard so much as a single word from development or community relations, and more than a few people are crying vaporware.

I for one am saddened to see the once respectable Everquest name has fallen to this.

ugh...my MMO-itch got so strong that I installed and started playing DCUO a week ago, and am just now getting to the interesting parts. If I'd heard about this sooner I might have waited.

So, how linear and monotonous is the grind to max level? Anything interesting to do once you get there? Is it worth dropping everything else to start playing now?

yep also think a microtransaction based dwarf fortress.

Smedley has noted that microtransactions are something he is strongly against, and does not intend to include in this game.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/herossong/heros-song

John Smedley, former CEO of Daybreak Games/Sony Online Entertainment, and and lead dev of Everquest 2 among other projects, has started a new company so that he can create his dream game. It's a pixel-art peer-to-peer MMO with procedurally generated worlds and permadeath. PVP dependent on server rules. They've reportedly already received $1 million from independent donors, and are asking another $800,000 from kickstarter to complete their funding. The development team includes people who worked on a variety of popular MMO's. Currently scheduled for launch in October 2016.

Personally, they lost me at peer-to-peer and permadeath. Peer-to-peer is just going to mean lots of cheaters; while permadeath in a level-grinding RPG only appeals to a very special kind of masochist, which I am not.

Also, what exactly is a 'Digital Collectors Edition'? How can something be collectible when it can be infinitely copied and freely distributed?

Available in Early Access now on Steam, Slime Rancher has been generally noted as light on content, but rich in awesome/cute graphics and music, and having a base game concept that should be easily expandable into an amazing game.

Step 1: Suck slimes
Step 2: Corral slimes
Step 3: Feed food to slimes
Step 4: Gather slime poop
Step 5: Feed slime poop to other slimes
Step 6: ???
Step 7: Profit!

TL;DR Day 1 neko porn mods confirmed

Neko porn is all well and good, but how sophisticated is the jiggle-simulation in their graphics engine?

A game called just came out of early access and my friend introduced it to me.

It's a free-to-play hybrid between Diablo's action-RPG game play with more traditional MMO exploring and socializing. There's three specs for each class, and every character can turn into a titular Devilian for increased power and unique abilities.

It's honestly quite fun, I haven't experienced any play-to-win paywalls after playing for about 10 hours. There's lockboxes and standard monetization stuff, but it's very unobtrusive and low-key. The community's pretty small right now so its long-term prospects are uncertain. I'll probably drop some money on it, I'd like this game to succeed.

I played this to max level. Inexplicably, they turn off matchmaking at max level, forcing people to find groups in chat, which might not be the worst thing in the world if they had any sort of filter for the gold sellers, but they don't.
I ran Hell+2 dungeons 25 times without getting a single upgrade before I said **** it, uninstalled, and joined the dozens of other people ranting on reddit about the same issues.

Devilian was localized by Trion, the same company responsible for several other noteworthy games.

Rift was the first game I played from Trion, developed by them, I enjoyed that MMO for several years. Unfortunately, like most other MMO's, they failed to innovate at all with their expansions, instead letting the game become stale and eventually unplayable.

Defiance was, and still is, one of a very small number of respectable MMO FPS games. Unfortunately they never did get raids in, or any meaningful endgame progression, so my experience there was short-lived.

ArcheAge was Trion's first big project that involved localizing rather than developing. AA had a lot of social aspects that brought players together in fun and unique ways, which I greatly appreciated. Sadly, they patched in dramatically more powerful gear with each patch, which was also dramatically more expensive, so that just half a year after launch it costed thousands of US dollars to maintain any semblance of competitiveness.

Trove was a great attempt to recreate Minecraft's building experience, while also having refined combat and lots of unique classes. I had very high hopes for this one, but then they made it exceedingly difficult to collect the basic building block colors, so players couldn't even construct simple structures without hundreds of hours of farming. Also I found the endgame raids lackluster, and class balance severely lacking.

Then came Devilian. I don't know why I let myself believe this time would be different..but I actually got my hopes up, and even bought the founders package. I only hope that whatever Trion comes out with next, I'll have the strength to just say No.

If you're a fan of the original Puzzle Quest, then Gems of War is a must-play.

If you love fan-service, then Soccer Spirits and Clash of Cuties both deliver while still providing decent time-waster gameplay.

Dragon Heroes is my favorite Shmup right now.

Shop Heroes is a decent shop-simulator.

Dragon Friends is a game about breeding different types of dragons. There's a lot of variety in dragons that you can sink a ton of time into unlocking.

Unison League is noteworthy for throwing you together with other players in real time, and having lots of events to profit from.

Magic Rush has both tower-defense and RPG modes, that you can use the same units within, providing nice variety of activities within a single game.

I'm currently waiting on Dragon Age Inquision GOTY edition to come down to a reasonable price for this very reason.

Jiggle-sorceresses and loli's who hate pants? Yup, Korea has blessed us with another MMO. This time it's an ARPG as well!

If you've got a hankering for a Diablo-like, but don't want to play Path of Exile or Marvel Heroes 2015 because you want something NEW, then this just might be for you. Early access starts tomorrow, full free-to-play release on Thursday.

Do all dating sims suck? Pretty much, yeah, to varying degrees.

Do all visual novels with dating aspects suck? Certainly not. If you're looking for an entertaining experience in that medium, look for games that prioritize storytelling over romantic interactions. There are some great ones out there.
