TIL that you can parry trolls, which is both hilarious to watch and stupidly broken as they have a rather long stagger animation which lets you get in several good hits making them fairly trivial to fight, even if there's not much space to kite or dodge.

I just run up and stab the trolls with my spear, and roll through their attacks. Spears hit them so hard that I rarely need to roll more than once.

Also wolves are pretty damn nasty, and there doesn't seem to be much in the mountain biome besides them, which is kinda disappointing, was hoping for some more plants or ores or something.

Wolves hit hard, but don't have a lot of health. You can usually 1-shot them with a stealthy bow shot, or just block and counterattack if you have a decent shield and plenty of stamina. Running through the mountains and alerting a pack of wolves to attack you all at once when you are tired from sprinting is a sure death.

Am I gonna have to progress to the point where I can access stone buildings in order to build a decent port? Because trying to build out into the water is hell itself, especially when it comes to keeping structures supported.

Core Wood makes long/tall pieces which are ideal for creating support in fairly deep water. Pro-tip: build a half-wall underneath your horizontal beams, and you will then be able to snap a vertical beam to the side of the half-wall, allowing you to build out and down without getting wet.

I finished watching Your Honor.

It's basically Breaking Bad. Malcolm's dad stumbles into a precariously illegal situation and then keeps digging himself in deeper, with lots of dramatic close calls.
But unlike Breaking Bad, this one ends after 1 season with lots of loose threads left dangling. It's a fun ride, but hard to recommend after that conclusion.

With time running out to back Coral Island, I took one final look at their kickstarter page. From the FAQ section:

Quote
What sets Coral Island apart from other farm sim games?
We hope the following features offer players a unique and fresh farming experience!

- Southeast Asia inspired world-building
- Ethnically diverse cast of characters, hand-drawn in a Disney-inspired style
- Promoting environmental awareness through gameplay
- Diving to save coral and improve farm output quality
- Wholesome feel-good gameplay

My major objection here is that 4 out of these 5 points are stylistic options, and not particularly innovative ones, being passed off as gameplay. The one thing in there with actual gameplay impact is just walking around picking up trash, which is not an exciting or interesting mechanic.
Yeah, that's gonna be a hard pass from me.

It's nice to see that there is still interest in the farming sim genre though. Maybe something worthwhile will come and get funded eventually.

Four year bump!

BDO is transitioning their service to a new provider. You need to go to their website and complete the transfer process, or all of your account data will be lost!

Coral Island...I like everything they've done, but from the trailer and kickstarter page, I'm seeing absolutely nothing new to the farming sim genre. Not even any noteworthy refinements to the systems we've seen a dozen times before. Hard to get excited over something so unoriginal.

what got me killed is the fucking spear having zero goddamn reach. You'd expect a long poking stick like that would allow you to hit something at some sort of safe distance, but nah, you gotta stand in the bloody water to be able to do anything to them

Mouse3 to throw the spear. But yeah, it's generally outclassed by swords and clubs for killing small enemies because of the sweep. Spear is amazing against trolls because of effective damage type, and decent for kiting big slow enemies because you can keep your shield up for safety and don't have to waste ammunition. But the rest of the time it's just a fairly subpar weapon.

If you want a melee weapon with some length though, try out the atgeir once you get some iron. That thing can reach out and poke someone.

Leeches seem unable to attack outside of the water, so they are fairly easy to manage. I recommend bringing a Hoe and leveling a path above water as you move between land masses in the swamp.

Both the blobs and all the undead in the swamp are vulnerable to blunt damage, so a bronze mace will serve you well.

Wraiths roam the swamps at night, and are extremely deadly to newly arrived adventurers, especially if you're alone. Strongly recommend avoiding swamps at night.

It's a good habit when exploring by boat to bring portal materials, and set up a little basecamp as soon as you make landing in a new area. Have a few portals at home with names that area easy to remember, like Outpost1, Outpost2, etc.

Biggest tip that took me way too long to figure out on my own: avoid falling into the habit of sprinting everywhere. It drains stamina and alerts enemies to your presence. A shot from a good bow against an unalerted enemy will often 1-shot them. A strong enemy attacking you when you have no stamina can easily result in death.

Also, honey has huge hp regen compared to other foods, and should always be one of your 3 foods. Three or four beehives should be enough to keep one viking fed at all times, with virtually no maintenance.

A note on copper, and other similar large metal veins, it extends underground pretty far. I suggest trying to dig all the way around the horizontal circumference of the node before actually mining the ore itself. You may need to quarry outwards before you can dig down far enough to reach the bottom of the node, due to the way terrain deforming works.

Joined some friends and built a house. Then they told me my house was slightly to close to my neighbor, so I had to tear it down and build another one. It was better the second time around anyway.

I hate the music. It reminds me of the most boring parts of Kingdom Hearts.

It's not as though we're all that great in ACS either though-- we have skills that brainwash people, suck the life out of them, and treat pretty much everybody as disposable tools.

Also "Hell Gates" are a thing.

My Talisman Cultivator is now up to 25k Artifact Battle Power, significantly outclassing my old team of Grand Chariot's who each have around 10k ABP. And I was pleasantly surprised to see my Sunflower Cultivator leap to 15k after learning Unus. I'm strongly considering retiring a couple of the Chariot's soon, to make room for more promising cultivators. Though I may just set them to permanent adventuring instead.

I recently made my first Body Cultivator. Definitely a learning curve here, but figuring out all these new systems is what I love about this game. She's currently busy breathing in a room full of animals, tombs, and a rainbow of qi gathering items.

Yeah, I'm not super into survival games. And a terraria-clone without digging tunnels seems like it defeats the purpose. I'm trying really hard to skip this one.

But at the same time, it seems to be what literally everyone I know is playing right now.

One huge factor I did not see Akura or anyone else mention is Mental State. Getting your cultivator past that 95% mental state threshold is usually worth one or two GC tiers. You can use a Story Talisman to help boost this early on; Story is bad for cultivation speed, but won't negatively impact breakthrough.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Law Match is another big factor, though a bit more difficult to manipulate. Whatever attributes your law uses, learn any skills available to boost those attributes. If you need Charisma, you can craft bracelets and equip them to boost charisma, with scaling based on the attractiveness of the bracelet; spiritwood timber makes a very attractive bracelet! For other stat-boosting tools, check the trade menu at any friendly sects every few weeks; they occasionally stock tools which you cannot craft, and usually sell them cheap!

I've learned how to make spirit crystals.

Should I build a room out of them?

Probably start by building some Magic Altar's from them. But after that, sure, make super fancy rooms.
