Where is that?

I a pit of sand next to my home town Umeå in northern Sweden.^^
To be precise: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=sv&geocode=&q=ume%C3%A5&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=40.817312,93.076172&ie=UTF8&ll=63.824146,20.169439&spn=0.005566,0.022724&t=h&z=16

You're never gonna make a fortress flipping your wrists at it like a nancy boy.  You've got to put your whole body into it if you want to dig.

Hey, I am only a dabbling miner! Don't be to hard on me! xD

Next time, you sould try laying out a build plan, make sure to include wooden supports, ventilation, escavated material dump site, larger picks(hand picks arnt dwarven), experience(try to dig out a ramp, see if you got the stamina and the patience), and provisions(kitten meat is a good source of energy for active dwarves)...

You better have a well planned aproach to digging, er the carp get hungery.

=P

I doubt I would  have the opportunity to be there so long. :/ I would be chased away by the workers there.

It's not the beard that makes you a Dwarf.  Not that it excuses that wispy little elf you brought along.

Were you really trying to dig a cave with a clawhammer?  You're gonna a bigger pick.  And supports.

That made me lol. =D

i believe that was a rock hammer, however you were using the hammer side, rather than the pick side... tsk tsk

Yup a rock hammer. But I did use the pick side, didn't I? D:

DF Suggestions / Re: More Grudge Stuff?
« on: July 19, 2009, 09:42:07 am »
I think this idea is great. Spicing up the grudges with random fights, bad thoughts when seeing each other and maybe even murder attempts if the personality allows it and the grudge is bad (of course this would mark the culprit as criminal if he is detected) would fit really well with  the new system for burrows. Then the player would need to consider what dwarfes are assigned to what burrows. Like if two doctor dwarves totally hate each other and starts fighting in the hospital area and so on, the player would need to consider splitting them up into different hospital burrows. Maybe even different dining rooms and food storages if the grudge is really bad and the player don't want fights (also fights would give bad thoughts to random people who sees it. Or maybe good thoughts to insane dorfs).

This would bring a new dimension to fortress design. Making areas so that people can avoid people they hate, and be with their friends.

Who knows, in the future this could extend to something like this in huge fortresses: if a burrow is large and supports many dorfs, they get a infrastructure of relationships and hierarchies so that it becomes a "clan" or something. They might pick a leader to depend on, and call themselves something, maybe related to that burrows tasks (kinda like McUrist ShallowCarp of the Aspiring Doctors or something xD). Then the whole clan can interact with other clans, like starting to like each other, or if the leaders or many dorfs in between them have grudges, they despise each other or something like that. But this would of course be in a lot later release in that case. =)

Hahahaha. =D

The cats had already been butchered! We could't wait for the fun. The wagons were disassembled to wood that we then burned to piss of the elves and i was going to finish the dining room, but I got caught in a fell mood. :/

Here is an infested area:

And why the forum is called that... I have no idea. xD

Well it's not Boatmurdered, but ah well! It's always fun to read these stories. Thanks for the link!  :)

Thanks! Hehe, I know and it will probably not be as epic as boatmurdered.

Moore's law has kept up surprisingly well from what I've heard, if you count multiple cores as the same raw computing power  of a single processor.

The problem is that we can't make anywhere near as optimal use of that power as we once did.  The numbers have just gotten too big, and safe - though less then optimal - coding practices are becoming more important, because we don't have the capacity to think as deeply through the computer's processes.  This is why Java's such a hit - inefficient as hell (it interprets code not directly as instructions to the machine but as instructions to a virtual machine, which is then broken down into a form that a computer can understand) but a lot more padded bits to stop people from poking themselves in the eye.

Excuse me, but if you are implying that Java is slower than other languages then you are wrong. The old Java engines where slower yes, but these days, java have cought up. Tests has shown that java sometimes are even faster. Just check out these stuff that are made in java:
