DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Loading a saved game

[AUTOSAVE:SEASONAL]
[AUTOBACKUP:YES]

In the init.txt. Yeah, it clutters your save folder, but... you can rename the folders and keep track of them.

I'd say, update to .NET 2 (or later). Had a few problems m'self, updated (and weeded out some trojans/whatever on my laptop in the process) and got it working.

There should be the thread for Dwarf Companion. Lemme look for it...

This link taken from the wiki is what I installed. Maybe try that? I think the python compiled version (bear with me, I have no idea about python, I only know some measly BASIC) has that. It gives you an exe that's compiled to run automatically.

If it doesn't work, hit start, run, type in cmd. In the dosbox, locate your DwarfCompanion folder (Assuming it's C:\DwarfCompanion, type "c:", "cd dwarfcompanion") and just write "dfcompanion_prototype" without the quotes.

DF Modding / Re: G-rated no killing
« on: March 12, 2009, 06:33:29 pm »
Hmm... g-rated DF...

Lets see. Caveins, temperature, ALL the pets have to go. Changing dwarves into NO_SLEEP NO_FOOD and removing NEEDS_ALCOHOL, moods, also DAMBLOCK... AMPHIBIOUS, what have you...

I guess it's doable to an extent, but sooner or later, somehow, a dwarf will manage to die. You can even delete the races, I guess. Atom smashing, levers... I'd get rid of bridges, and use floors instead.

But yeah. Doable to an extent, with expectable losses. http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Creature_tokens has a lot of tokens you can change to lower the violence.

Not going to comment about raising kids, before I experience it myself. Hope you have fun with your son, though :)

Since he hasn't mentioned miasma, nope, does not qualify as Boatmurdered.

Seriously though, any DF experiment HAS to have miasma.

If they evolve an opposable thumb (instead of a grasping... er.. appendage) on their thumbs to wield !!Chainsaw Nunchuks!!, we're so doomed.

Heh, a moth later you'll be sending DVD sets of DFwiki!

Seriously, I guess it'd be MUCH easier if we contact Senso, the admin, and ask for a dump. Or wait for him to check this thread. I guess there's a seven hour difference between where I live (GMT+2) and where he lives (GMT-6, prolly).

The thoughts stay for a year, apparently, according to the wiki. So... um..

PULL THE LEVER.

Ah, you killed the cats of the crazy old cat ladies. Well, that was bound to happen. I'd get rid of all the stray cats, in a cage preferably, then wait for the pets to die of age. Editing the cat's lifespan might work better... but still, one season later half of their pets can go poof, right along with their limited sanity.

praguepride: I remember seeing a screenshot where a mayor mandated enriched uranium stuff in a modded game :P

Your husband died in the hands of the goblins? You had to walk through 11 z-levels of miasma? WORRY NO MORE, in ThrustedPelvis, your home away from mountainhome, you'll have LEGENDARY dining halls WITH SOOTHING WATERFALLS! With all the masonry engraved, you'll never have to feel the sun burning your skin! Just call 555-DWRF to apply!

Note: Embarking on a new expedition may cause major sunburns, carp bites, elephant stampedes, miscarriage, radiation sickness, poisoning, vomiting, burns induced by burning booze, burns induced by magma, flooding the world, drowning, getting mangled by Rhesus Macaques, Elves, Goblins, Carp, Elephants, Cougars, Yetis, Fire Imps, and their zombie variants.

Get better cooks and brewers, imo. A legendary meal eaten in a legendary dining room with LOTS of tables = Exstatic.

5x5 rooms, masterwork furniture, even doors, an artifact or two. If you're REALLY bothered, give them seperate throne rooms/bedrooms/offices. Mixing rooms lower the value. But then again, if you give a lot of your dwarves dabbling masonry, and come out with a few artifact furniture, you can cram all of your nobles in one room, THEN pull the lever.

...You're going to pull the lever, aren't you? HUH?

Hmm, so we'll have to ask/beg for an XML dump? I'll get right on my knees :P

Gen a lot of worlds, play with the world gen and hope for the best. By default, HFS, cave rivers/pools and caves mostly form only on mountain tiles, thus crippling your log income. If you can eke out till the first autumn, you can live by imported tower caps. Or make a tower cap farm underground. You'll need an underground pool, and to, like, devote a FULL z level for it, though, tower caps grow slow. Farming underground will be easy with an undergrond river too. But mountains mostly don't have sand or arable soil, so you have to either hack some of your tiles to be sand, or muddy them and hope some grow trees/bushes then turn to sand. even a 1x1 sand tile works for sand gathering, anyway. And instead of checking every tile if they did turn into sand, just try to build a dirt road (b-O). Enlarge it and hover over your muddied rock field. If it's light green, it's sand.

You can try looking for underground water pools AND rivers, or underground rivers. Try genning medium or large worlds, small worlds have lesser chance of containing a tile with all of the fun stuff.

I'd put noble rooms right under the workshops instead of common rooms. Especially the hammerer. And I'd set /R to every quota of work I could.

Nice strip mining btw :P
