Magma also can be 'farmed' for: Dead nobles, burnt cats, burnt goblins, burnt elves, burnt humans, burnt dwarves, pressure plates, moats, volcanoes, fuck the world levers and HUEG pyramids of glass.

Urist McHumanlydwarf, Pump Operator is more experienced.

You'd also get amazon dwarf civs. A whole race of female dwarves. Their marksmen would fling their children as their 26th bolt.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Damming a river

I guess you can use a reservoir under the dam, routed under the river bed, and let loose by a floodgate. Water likes to get back to it's original level, anyway. You'll have to go down a z-level for your fort entrance, and build ramps. You'll also have to build a few walls to force gobbos to enter through the chokehold.

You can also attach a lever, I think.

It's called ROCK nuts. Dwarves would expect to find vomit, chunks of elf meat, blood splatters, rock and even salt in their legendary meals.

Stacked pumps work well, I think. How deep is the river? If it's deeper than a z-level, you'll need to use a LOT of pumps. Luckily, you can use waterwheels, and putting your pumps right next to each other will transfer power between them without the need for an axle, thus saving a bit of power. Then again, with waterwheels giving at least 100 power, and pumps requiring 20, you can easily pump the water out of the river, route it back to the river's exit, and build whatever you want in the empty river bed. Once stopped, the river will not overflow.

Check out the Wiki for more examples.

A total of 12 traps. Whatever I want, just 12 traps. No more. No atom smashing enemies, either, I just smash their clothes. I sometimes savescum to 'play' with captured megabeasts, though.

To conclude; there are 5 'mist' effects, I think. Miasma, Smoke, Mist, Magma Mist, Steam. Steam, Smoke and Miasma has negative effects, magma mist is neutral, while pure mist is benefactory. Archives say magma mist burns.

And yeah, magma mist only happens if you cave-in something into magma. Wiki says magma mist can't be created by letting magma free-fall, like a waterfall. Hmm. Gotta test!

As far as I know, temperature does not effect farms. Current wiki about temperature is empty, and the old wiki has some nifty experiments.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How legendary can a dining room be?
« on: March 12, 2009, 01:30:18 pm »
How would you prepare a test, anyway? Lock two dwarves in seperate rooms, lower their happiness with DwarfManager, then wait a bit for it to dawn on the dwarves - dwarves are stupid, after all - and then unlock one door to the dining hall. Check the happiness. Then add some legendary socks or whatnot. Get rid of the first dwarf. Unlock the second door. Check the happiness.

Making sure none of them like the materials the dining hall was made of would be a pain.

Guess that requires a new gen? *checks*

Hm, adding a reaction is an entry, I guess? Then it'd require a new world. That's what I get from this post, anyway.

Wait a minute...magma mist? WTF?

From the Wiki

"Steam is created from the mixing of magma and water. This is distinct from mist, a similar looking product of water falling, and smoke, the product of mixing magma and anything else.

In older versions, steam would cause massive injuries and death. In v0.27.176.38c, steam is harmless but still rendered. "

is there some method to hack bauxite stones into my fortress?

Use dtil to change some useless* mica or orthoclase or what-have-you vein into bauxite. Or even better, find some 'rare' colors like pitchblende, mine all but one, change it to bauxite, copy the bauxite tile, paste over a 20x20 room, mine it, then change all bauxite back into pitchblende.

Or, if it works, just enable hematite to be used as a normal stone and lock in a mechanic with a small supply to make mechanisms. I don't know if they'll be iron mechanisms or hematite mechanisms, though.

I'll try and see.

Edit: Hematite mechanisms. Bleh :( And yes, they do melt.

*useless stones are included in this list. Oh and I can't write.

The Worldgen Cookbook can help you there. I remember reading how to get LOTS of cliffs. Erosion destroys cliffs too harshly, I think. Just try.
