DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Gate for fortifications?
« on: May 10, 2012, 07:45:40 pm »
And I have a one-tile wide bridge acting as a gate in my fortress at this very moment, verifiably preventing creatures from walking past.  You are probably doing something wrong, or trying to raise it with a creature that's too large in the way.

One-tile wide raising bridges don't raise anymore.  They connect to the lever just like they used to, but pulling said lever does nothing to the bridge.

This isn't true at all.  Their appearance doesn't change, but they will still raise, blocking traffic and smashing anything on that tile.

Build a statue or other impassible object on the tile to the left of the tile you're trying to deconstruct?

I think there is in legends mode. You'd have to copy your save and rename it

You can look at the world and site populations in legends mode, but that won't tell you how many creatures there are living in your local biome.

I know it's possible, just not how. any suggestions?

I have never seen any method of getting a per-biome population list.  I'd like to know of one, but I don't think there is any way.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: how to attack animals?
« on: May 10, 2012, 03:21:29 pm »
You can't target creatures that belong to your fortress.  And if you somehow did manage to convince your marksdwarves to do so, you'd probably trigger a loyalty cascade.  You'll need to catch some wild animals and use those instead.

Without the CHILD tag, a creature will never reproduce.  Dragons will lay eggs, but the eggs will never hatch.

In theory, it should be possible to breed dragons if you modify them to have the CHILD tag.

Rocs do have the CHILD tag, so it should theoretically be possible to breed them.

IIRC, because dragons are randomly generated it's impossible to have both a male and female of the same kind.

Dragons aren't randomly generated, they're defined in the raws.  You're thinking of forgotten beasts.

There is a lot more I could do with this mod, especially with the interactions and other stuff that's in the newer versions of DF.  I really don't have the time at the moment unfortunately, but I might revisit it at some point in the future.

yep, still can't get it to work.
selecting the folder. getting same error

Made another fix just now.  Download and try again, it should work this time.

Ok, I've updated the script.  It's still really outdated, but it should work with the current version.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Magma Forge help.

How are your dwarves dying?  You aren't very clear.  Are you just finding them dead?

Most likely the fire imps are throwing fireballs at them, setting them on fire and making them bleed to death.  Is that what you're finding?

Freezing deconstructs anything.  Waterfalls of happiness are best made underground.

I suspect you made retracting bridges instead of raising bridges.

Just out of curiosity, what are my dwarf's stats in things?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Could I have a look at my dwarfs thoughts and kill list?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'd like to see Corai's stats and relationships.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'd like to ask the same, Sphalerite, if you don't mind.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

While we're at it, could I please see my dwarf's equipment list for his brave voyage into the caverns? I'm assuming full leather, and a weapon of choice.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'll have to apologize to everyone for not having the time to actually do much with the fortress at the moment.  This week had been and continues to be very busy with family and social obligations, so I may not actually be able to do anything but very minor updates until this weekend.

Yeah, I had a line which culls the UNTOWARD words when generating plant names so you don't get rape sticks and such.  Toady removed the UNTOWARD words from the word file, which means the script crashes when it tries to remove them.  This script really isn't guaranteed to be compatible with 34.x in general anyway, it was written for a much older version of DF.

Events of Malachite, year 56

Saint Iridkonos, Monk Errant, had produced a very strange instrument.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It bore images of both of the rulers of the dwarven civilization where he currently resided, as well as an image of itself, and several darker images which the local dwarves would not recognize.  It would not be a good idea to let anyone else examine it closely.  He would have to put it away somewhere safe and secret.

In her royal quarters, Geb was meeting with the Elven ambassador, if you could call it a meeting.  While this elf wasn't as threatening as the one who had appeared last year, he passed no opportunity to speak down to the dwarves.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sneering at how the dwarves 'embraced the mud' - Ha, as if there was a speck of mud in Geb's quarters!  Still, there wasn't much point in arguing with the elf's demands.  There weren't even a hundred trees left uncut on the surface.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Deeper underground Athra had finally finished digging out the space for his personal, self-made quarters.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It had taken a lot longer than he'd originally estimated, and he'd hit an unexpected vein of cassiterite while digging.  He'd sneak those nuggets down to the smelter ore stockpile later.

Now, he needed privacy.  A few stone doors to close off the passage to the stairs, and to close off the rooms from each other.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Meanwhile, the dwarf who called himself only 'Boss Man' was marveling at the convenience of the hospital layout.  He could fish out of the aquifer, and keep an eye on the patients at the same time!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now, he was pretty sure he'd seen a turtle under the well.  Just a little longer and he'd have it.
