Yeah, Debvon seems unnecessarily harsh on his review.  A lot of those same arguments could be made about any game where you start with nothing and build up.  I like that genre.  Hell if you hate that part so much start out with a rich family, they provide them.

I find it impossible that anyone would like the old one more than the new. It's like the same thing! But the new ones are just a lot cleaner. Maybe you just got turned off by all the money EA is squeezing out of people :P

I've had a dwarf jump into my water supply. I've also seen one bug where dwarves swim around in it and not die despite never having food.

I HAVE A SOLUTION. Toady, make bodily excretions like blood and vomit and shit moddable. Assign 'zones' where they are allowed to excrete bodily fluids. If someone steps on them, it produces a negative thought.

So, if anyone wants this in their game, they can just mod it later on.

Oh, I loved that game. That was one of the games that I actually bought after pirating. My friend also bought it. Had the most intricate trap system I've ever made, even more so than DF, since making traps in DF is sorta cheating :P

I killed all the super agents. And the last mission was really easy for me because of a nasty trick..

Hehe, and it's sort of fun that if you...

It's an awesome game, but IMHO too easy. Lol, I checked on the Internet and with my friends and turns out I was the only one who built an elaborate trap system. None of the walkthroughs even had my idea, and my friends were completely baffled with what my traps did. I designed my traps to hurt the agents so much more and not harm confused/tired minions of mine.

Trap spoiler you won't find in walkthroughs:

I'm pretty sure DF players could make a better trap system, though.

There's also that exploit that lets you get a lot of money without anyone coming, but that comes with a drawback - stealing all that money will make the various countries rather angry early on, before you unlock good minions so I wouldn't recommend it.

IVAN for fun deaths
ADOM for interesting storyline (that is until you get bored of repeating it and figure out all the secrets)
Dungeon Crawl for actual RPG tactics in a roguelike and replayability. And not having to read spoilers.
Omega and Nethack for the world interacting in interesting ways to what you do (a bit outdated compared to Crawl, though)
Oh, and there's Gearhead if you like mechs.

I always get my character killed out of some impulsive action in ADOM. I don't like 'savecheating', and I get bored enough with my lvl 34 dark elf assassins halfway through anyway :P

I find it kinda strange how the Sims get all these haters. It's just not the type of game for some people, just like how I'm not at all fond of GTA. If you don't like the type of game, don't bother with the sequels.

This game fails to give me satisfaction. I always get fairly happy with a character, before getting chased by some impossibly powerful mage that melts my char's brain before he can walk away or get ambushed by 5 jackals right after fighting an ogre with a great mace. At least I get satisfying deaths with all other roguelikes. IVAN had particularly fun deaths, with ADOM it's usually deserved or epic.

I had a fairly satisfactorily powerful minotaur fighter, who was chased by a spellcaster ghost of a previous character after I was down to 8 HP after being clubbed out of nowhere by an ogre. I jumped into an escape hatch while he was tossing pain spells at me, then I entered a room with 4 gnolls, 3 ogres and a jackal :(

Gah, I just want one satisfactory character!

EDIT: Scratch that. I had two. One was a lvl10 troll berserker I tried to 'copy' from Adom, turned out pretty well till I underestimated the damn elves and tried to take on 4 of them without berserking.

The other was a spriggan stalker, who was really awesome, worshipped Nemelex Xobeh. Actually got very far with him; he could easily run from most opponents while poisoning them, and the Nemelex Xobeh cards where a self-supporting power thing; actually got a lot of neat cards which helped a lot, and using up neat cards made Nemelex give me even more neat cards. It says he died of an ogre, but really, he died of starvation - not having anywhere to go and too hungry to use his powers.

I found the 'noticed an ugly thing', 'defeated an ugly thing' rather funny :P

Lol, I got bored of Dart after they told me to practice my skills by casting spells at an object. The only reason I play permadeath games is so that I don't have to grind.

It can be done without being a bigot. One person debates, hurting someone else's feelings. That person hits back with an insult. The others hit them back with more insults. Main reason why these threads are just huge messes.

I'm pretty sure there's been at least two times when Avast couldn't detect some viruses on my comp. So I switched to AVG, which got rid of them. But AVG couldn't get some of those viruses, so I switched back to Avast.

(Yes, I do keep the virus database updated)

Both Avast and AVG suck. I tend to switch between them, depending on whether I have a virus the other hasn't detected :P

The first didn't have objectives. The second had plenty of them. I heard the third's going to be more DF-ish in that doing things that Sims wants to do makes them happier. I do wish a DF-er would mod Sims 3 to have murderous tantrums later on.

I saw a demo of the Sims 3.

Here's my short review.

Sounds just great to me. It's got a different theme and my sisters play it (and will pay for it), so that's pretty much all I need.

Lol, debvon, I really don't see how The Sims 2 is like the first? It's soooo much different, better in every way. Hell, it's actually a game, unlike the first.

It gives them a personality, which is far more than they had before this. Lol, that's much more realistic, I suppose. I just hope that the game isn't going to be as arcade like as Spore.
