Other Games / SUPERHOT - your legs control time
« on: September 12, 2013, 06:18:44 pm »
I found this neat little indie game. It's super short but I really really enjoyed it. I think I would like to see a more fleshed out game from this.

Its so short so I don't want to say too much but basically you have some control of time and you shoot people.

DF Suggestions / Reverse burrows
« on: November 27, 2012, 11:22:59 pm »
Pretty much as they sound. Its a burrow that if a dwarf is assigned they cannot enter. I Think this would be useful for separation of dwarves.

DF Suggestions / Arena/Zoo zone
« on: September 07, 2012, 04:05:48 pm »
I had an idea that would fix a minor frustration of mine. I love making pointless things like zoos and arenas but don't we all? I was annoyed because I cannot display open habitats without animals in cages to dwarves without them getting scared of the animals inside. Or when making an arena I can't let dwarves see or they will be scared of whatever I throw in there.

So this is what I am suggesting. An Arena/Zoo zone type. As long as a creature is inside this zone and a dwarf isn't actively inside the same zone with it. The dwarf will not be scared of the creature and perhaps will even admire it.

This way we can build public zoos and arenas next to dining rooms without worry since dwarves wont be scared of creatures inside the zone unless they happen to be in the same zone with it.

DF Suggestions / Farming Overhaul
« on: August 24, 2012, 12:02:56 am »
I am sure there is a farming overhaul somewhere in the mix. But hear me out.

Farming as it is now is really really easy. And makes the game really really easy.

Once you get a decent enough farm setup you have infinite food for free with no danger or issues.
I think a few changes could fix this to make acquiring food more of a challenge.

First, Crops should need to be watered or composted.
Right now dwarves just kind of grow mushrooms from nothing in the dirt. There needs to be some sort of watering or composting system. So you need access to rotting food (or bodies) or clean water depending on what you are growing

Second, Vermin should be able to eat and breed inside of your farms.
This would encourage somehow directing spiders to your farms or keeping vermin hunters like cats around so your farms don't go to shit.

Third, Farms should take longer to yield produce.
Maybe twice a season and that's being really generous. But currently we make so much food for dwarves that only eat 4 times a year and they can eat a mushroom and be fine.

But with some way of making farming a more in depth part of the game i think it should be a little more... fun for all of us.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Unusually large clusters of stray animals.
« on: February 14, 2012, 11:33:31 am »
So the Town I am currently in takes forever to get around in because each turn take like 3 seconds.

I think I know why...

Is there supposed to be large clusters of stray animals? They could be reduced for fps optimization.

http://www.paradoxplaza.com/games/a-game-of-dwarves

"The gameplay consists of ordering the inhabitants of a dwarven settlement to dig, build and conduct research in order to strengthen the clan, whilst defending themselves from the terrible beasts from the depths into which they delve. The game generates a unique world each time a new level starts, making sure that the player needs to dynamically adapt their strategies and tactics during a session.

As the player advances, the dwarves will level up and gain new skills, progressing from weak dwarflings to near immortal warriors or master craftsmen. There are also rare resources to be found deeper in the earth that grant access to better buildings and equipment. However, the deeper you dig the more dangerous foes you might unleash…"

So yeah. What else is there to say?

How do I remove the ramps leftover from channeling without trapping my dwarves down in the hole?

DF Suggestions / Slightly better music system.
« on: August 31, 2011, 11:52:57 am »
I was thinking maybe have a game music folder. And after a song is one it randomly picks another song from the folder to play. So we don't have to compile all the gameplay songs we want into one .ogg or play it in a separate music player.

anyone else here the same?

Like I'm basically waiting for the next release. Not that I hate cities for some weird reason.

DF Suggestions / Better nest boxes
« on: March 23, 2011, 12:29:52 am »
I was thinking of maybe having a toggle on nest boxes for if you want to gather the eggs or let them stay there to hatch.

So instead of dwarves immediately picking up eggs after they hatch you can set the nest box to hatching mode and they will leave the eggs alone.

Will make it a little easier than doing manual doorwork

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / 1 Dwarf per job
« on: February 17, 2011, 10:35:33 pm »
Okay i had an idea. What if I were to assign only 1 dwarf per job. Like only 1 armor smith and only 1 weapon smith and only one farmer etc etc... Leftover dwarves would be military. How well do you see this going?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / 50 turns pass by as I fire an arrow
« on: November 29, 2010, 08:14:39 pm »
Ok so I started playing adventure mode for the first time and I am loving it. After my 8th adventurer died or so I decide to create an archer type character. So im doing my adventurer thing going towards a lair and i sleep in the woods then BAM kobold ambush.

I'm thinking no problem right?

So I learn how to fire the dang bow and i fire it at the nearest kobold.

SUDDENLY GAME GOES LIGHTSPEED LIKE 50 TURNS

Now I am on the ground bleeding with a mortal wound from a swordsbold behind me I bleed to death moments later while my hired wrestler friend wrestles with the swordsbold.

does it take THAT LONG to ready an arrow and fire it? I had competent in bows and skilled archer......
