DF Suggestions / Adv. Mode reasonable animals.

As an adventurer, I've seen many many animals die by my halberd. This would be fine, but the fact of the matter is that they just keep ambushing me over and over again with absolutely no regard for their personal safety. It's gotten to the point where I can't travel anywhere and end up just standing in piles of corpses.

So my suggestion is that animals stop attacking after a while if you've killed large numbers of them.

It's unholy fog, but all it does is cause temporary dizziness and fever, which is gone by the time they've been hauled to the hospital. I think I need a new embark.

There is a child who is starving and dehydrated, just lying on the floor. He was injured by an... "accidental" 2 z-level drop and now nobody is helping him. He's also been sitting there for quite a while without moving, so I doubt that he's going to be getting to the hospital any time soon.

How can I go about solving this? Hurt him again? Let him starve? Magma?

Life Advice / Fevers irritate me.

Since no amount of beard will qualify me as a dwarf, I must grudgingly accept that I am only human. As such, I get sick on occasion. The day before yesterday was one such occasion. I had a small fever - by no means life-endangering - that made me feel awful when I sat at my computer. So, I sat in bed instead and reread some favorite books.
The day goes on, drink plenty of liquids, vitamin C, etc, etc. Nothing really interesting goes on. I take some coconut oil and go to bed. I have this tendency to shrug off disease really easily, so when fevers break I have tons of energy, I feel great! The world is just an arm's reach away!
There's just one problem: It happened in the middle of the night, while I was asleep. My body decides it's really important that I not be sleeping right at that moment. At 3:30 AM. Sigh.

And so ends my rant.

Is there a way I can make grass more nutritious? I'm sick of buying elephants, pandas, and elk just to be forced to put them down within a few seasons.

I have a serious problem with large gems. They don't get stored, they are never very valuable, yet my nobles demand them nonetheless. But I don't think it's entirely their fault (much as I want to). There was this gem cutter that became moody in one of my fortresses, and his eventual product was a purple spinel bed. This bed never got stored, and it only resides in it's current place because I constructed it there. I deconstructed it and, despite there being plenty of space in my furniture stockpile, it has not even been touched since.

And so, I believe that it's not just large gems that can't (or won't) be stored, but all non-cut-gem products of the jeweler's workshop. Thoughts?

So I've got this captured enemy war leopard, chained it it's little bunker. It is female, and I also have a free-roaming, tame male leopard in my meeting hall. It's been almost an in-game year without any cubs. So I've been wondering, will there ever be any? I'm using 31.25 with the Fortress Defense mod.

I've received a rather interesting embark, and demons are now flooding onto the landscape. One of these, the Salt Devil, is a blob with a shell. How would I deal with that? It can't bleed out (I assume), and warriors would rather bite it to death than use a hammer properly.

... and I'm wondering if there are any pitfalls I should know about. I'm reasonably healthy, thin, and have no history of muscle or bone disorders. I know to stretch out my legs before and after, and to avoid drinking directly before (while staying reasonably hydrated), but what else should I be aware of?

DF Suggestions / "Copy" function on the production orders screen.

I've recently started clear-cutting my local forest to fuel steel and glass production. In doing so, I have to manage how many bars of pig iron and steel I produce. The problem is, I work with fairly high numbers of them, which makes me have to use the work orders screen to make sure that there isn't too much of one made. Now, I would like to be able to copy orders so that I don't have to keep going into the 'new order' screen over and over again.
I searched around, but didn't see any suggestions about this.

I've decided that the natural volcano near which my dwarves live is insufficient. In the true Dwarven spirit, I've decided to demolish and rebuild it out of the local diorite. My question is this: do volcano's refill? Or will I have to pump out all of the aboveground magma into a giant cistern? Any answers are appreciated.

The moment the dwarven caravan entered the map, every single hauling-enabled dwarf in my fort rushed over and stole all of their cloth! They claimed to be putting it into the hospital. Will the traders leave angry? I'd prefer it if my own civilization didn't hate me.

Life Advice / Mildew removal advice.

I am hoping to hear of any suggestions my fellow bay12ers may have for an optimized mildew removal technique. Right now, my way is:
apply cleaning substance, scrub like hell.
This works like a charm, but it's slow and tiring. I've recently bought a better soap, which reduces the time it takes, but I am still wondering if there is a better way.
If you're wondering, it's not my bathroom that has severe enough mildew problems to warrant this thread. I'm being paid to clean someone else's.

I'm trying to build the golden city of Babylon (the biblical one, not the historical one), and need a great, seven headed beast with ten horns upon its heads. I don't know quite how the body stuff works out, so I'd like to recruit some help in designing it.
I'd really appreciate it if I could get some raws for it!
