I believe that some children should have abilities, while others are just ankle-biters. It stands to reason that their (most likely minimal) individual traits would influence this. If I were in control of these powers, I would have them gain the ability to look less undead. Especially if the wounds are small, they should be able to blend in seamlessly with the normal crowd, though they wouldn't act very human if someone took the time to observe them.

If you choose to take my suggestion and run with it, we can have one or two of these Mimics invade an orphanage, and from there spread the parasite even further. They would become invaluable in the late game when people are holed up in fortress cities. Who would deny residence to a crying child? The poor thing, surely there couldn't be any harm in taking them in...

Fuzzy the bear can continue his meal while we have a child run over to their camper. When we hide all of our horde except for Fuzzy, the child will bang on the door. If they let him/her in, we can just have him/her infect them all. If they don't fall for it, we can just bring out Snowflake to tear open their flimsy little box.

I'm assuming that you are one of the spirits that speak to the man with the tea?

Human tombs have many many backpacks just littered all over the floor. I usually find them even before entering the main coffin chamber.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / A question about Dwarf Therapist.
« on: February 19, 2012, 09:57:11 pm »
Not about how to use it - that's a question for its main thread - but on why it's often said to make DF playable. What does it do that I'm missing? All I use it for is to get children to haul socks. Could someone help me out here?

Well, children don't count towards your "effective" population - that is, the number that determines events such as megabeast attacks and sieges. You effective pop. is determined by how many adults you have. I had a fortress where two childbirths increased the population from 19 to 21, but I still didn't get moods or ambushes. You have nothing to worry about.

I had such a good fortress. Now everybody is dead or worse.

Such is the true spirit of Dwarf Fortress.

Alright... Lets send the bear over to mill about and dig around their food supplies for a few moments to drive them into their tents/campers, then do our best to sneak over and grab some new converts. Infect whole families. Leave no orphans. We're about to bump the disturbing up a notch.

Have you tried catapults?

DF Suggestions / Adv. Mode reasonable animals.
« on: February 18, 2012, 04:06:54 pm »
As an adventurer, I've seen many many animals die by my halberd. This would be fine, but the fact of the matter is that they just keep ambushing me over and over again with absolutely no regard for their personal safety. It's gotten to the point where I can't travel anywhere and end up just standing in piles of corpses.

So my suggestion is that animals stop attacking after a while if you've killed large numbers of them.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / I am very disappointed in my evil fog.
« on: February 17, 2012, 03:48:51 pm »
It's unholy fog, but all it does is cause temporary dizziness and fever, which is gone by the time they've been hauled to the hospital. I think I need a new embark.

Actually, he's still completely alive and his presence is known. He's just laying there in a hallway that sees a good deal of traffic. He's also gone melancholy.

Edit: Derp. He was assigned to a burrow that didn't include the hospital. I can't believe I forgot to add the flippin' hospital...

I tried that, but he just won't be taken to the hospital. I've even caved in several walls around him, but with no effect. I think he's just gonna die. Oh well, he's just some migrant whelp anyway.

There is a child who is starving and dehydrated, just lying on the floor. He was injured by an... "accidental" 2 z-level drop and now nobody is helping him. He's also been sitting there for quite a while without moving, so I doubt that he's going to be getting to the hospital any time soon.

How can I go about solving this? Hurt him again? Let him starve? Magma?
