I can do a pretty good goblin if you need one.

Those are quite good goblin sounds! I deepend em a bit (sounded a bit kobbold pitched, imho) and added then as semi-rare variant of ambush sound.

I have a pretty good voice for semi-professional and professional stuff.

Do you have a need for someone who sounds snooty and kind of gay? Because I mighty qualify.

Dwarvem lasses are indeed underrepresented even if there is usually at least 50% of them in fortresses, so of course :)

Easy, remove that from configuration files :), see production/production.xml, remove "(.+) has created a masterpiece!" element or remove sounds from it.

Out of curiosity, is it possible to have SoundSense choose from a set of sounds whenever a trigger comes up, or is it always the same sound?

The can be list of sounds of which one is randomly chosen, see production pack for example.

Idea: How about having (some) sounds be a dwarf reaction, fading into an announcement (I'd record it, but I lack the proper tools to do the effect(or rather, don't feel like coughing up $60 to do it), and I don't want to wake people up).

Descriptive example (imagine the audio coming in according to relative position) (Artifact complete):
Dwarf: "I've done it, it's beautiful. (Fade to about 25-40%)Look at it. It's so shiny. I've done it"
                                                             Announcer: "An artifact has been completed"

That sounds like a good idea!

Oh, and since log lines contains names, anouncements can also go like "Urist done X", "X happened to urist" for some common names.

have you had anyone voice the elves yet?  If not, I believe we need some audio of someone who speaks softly yet clearly with proper grammar and sounds pompous and/or arrogant.

Well, I think that elves are only in speaking roles when diplomat and caravan arrives, so the could be lines for that, yeah.

I would be neat if elven siege woould be anounced as something like "We have come to avenge trees and consume your corpses!", but i am not use how elven siege is anounced in log since i have never been sieged by em.

How about posting a list of events we need lines for?

There is one fairly incomplete in SS thread, but my main problem is i have yet to gather all the possible lines (as possibly important) lines. Hence, me asking for

Yep, that is what I am using too. Great program

btw: tip for testing sounds: just open log file in text editor like notepad, copy-paste lines to the end and save it. Much better than waiting for something happening in DF.

Did you have any particular ideas in mind for lines or sounds? In particular, any specific phrasing or accent, or we just go with something and see what happens?

Well, typical dwarves are supposed to sound scottishy and df dwarves a bit insaninity/comedy mixed in (DF talk dwarves are quite good at this for example). Phrasing shoud be snappy and short so that if anouncements start comming quickly it does not become annoying (Tokkius got it perfect).

Then there is possiblitiy of Dungeon-keeper like anouncements that some people already said they would like: demonic, deep and slow voice. Menancing lines.

I woould like "basic" pack sound a bit natural (as in, something that you could catch with mic in dwarven settlement), so instead of saying it started raining, there would be rain ambience.

It is a bit serious and human-like tone but overall, you nailed phrasing and i think i will make pack with just them :), it sounds like it is perfectly suited for alt-tabbed fort.

edit: I'd definitely like to do a complete do-over once I get a better mic. Then again, my school has a couple recording studios, so I'll see if I can get into one of those on my downtime.

(btw, can anyone provide example of log with noble having demand? Any other log would be helfull too to catch missed lines and events because i am for example sure that migrant log messages are a lot more varied than what i know about., but since that happens randomly ...)

That's entirely dependent on how Toady will resolve undead health. Right now, he's had to fudge in an HP system for undead when everything else doesn't use HP anymore. So the question is what, if any, common thread of 'durability'/'health' will the general Creatures of the Night have. Whether they're dependent on the intactness of the physical body or not.

It might not be as hard if he adds some kind of ectoplasm-like substance acting like blood so that skeletal creature with crushed bone would leak it, make skull site for "soul" which would release it when broken resulting in instakill and rib-cage site for "ectoplasm source" which would result in massive mystical bleeding out.

It really depends on how becoming and being undead skeleton is modelled and if that is done sensibly, health could be working quite naturaly.

I'm not opposed to that idea, but it might need some other prep first.  What if the uniform is set to use something like any metal for some pieces?  What metal will be used in the manager order?  And what if you don't have enough of a particular materiel?  The announcement log will be spammed with armorers cancelling jobs due to lack of metal like what already happens when there's a manager order that cannot be fulfilled.  Except this one would recreate the order after deletion.

Alternativelly, he could be making mandates for armor/weapon that is in short supply.

While we are at it, i would also like ability to "clone item" - say, i have this golden breastplate with image of lion in rubies in it and decide i want several, so i let my dwarves examine it and create recipe for it.

Also, recipe should be able to create several items: For example, "full clothing" recipe with contains leather boots, socks, trousers, etc..

Speaking of The Weather Has Cleared, is it possible to have a looped sound end when a certain phrase appears in the log? I have this looping rain sound, and it'd be nice if I could make it stop looping when the game says the weather has cleared. I now have SoundSense loop an empty sound file when the weather clears, but that's not a very elegant method.

That is indded not very elegant, and i added fix in release 8 ( http://df.zweistein.cz/soundsense/soundSense_8_25.zip ), from now on, you can specify loop="stop" to force stop of music loop

I would be willing to do some voices, but I'm a girl that sounds like a 12 year old boy. Thus not very dwarven sounding.

You can give it a shot :), "Oy, we need water for wounded!" could use dwarven lass voice.

Math makes my head hurt, but what if I built a very powerful dwarven computer in dwarf fortress to play dwarf fortress, Because the computer exist within dwarf fortress the code would be perfectly synced to run dwarf fortress .

Regarding the Arsenal Dwarf, I was just thinking how a more useful incarnation of that position might work. What if they gathered up complete uniforms ahead of time so they would be there as soon as someone needed them? It should be configurable how many of each uniform to keep on hand, and of course if there was no uniform waiting in the arsenal, military dwarves should hunt the pieces down on their own as normal.
That sounds as though it would be incompatible with the way uniforms currently work.

I'll go ahead and advertize SoundSense ( http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=60287 ) project here.

Goal of project is to add sounds to DF the way vizualizers added graphics and various tools added gui :).

What is needed to be done (apart from starting to use it) are sounds and voice packs. Basic engine is mostly ready, but content is missing and here is your chance to be vocal!

Changing a couple of headers can make an email appear like it was send from anywhere
If you post the rest of the header info (if you can get it) then you might be able to see where it was actually sent from
