Sweet!  I now have a tame Giant Cave Spider.  I chained it at my entrance with the other 2 dogs for defense.  Will this bother dwarves?  Now that the spider is tame will it frighten anyone?

I have a dwarf that does not seem to have any injuries and is not eating or drinking.  He's my only brewer with skill, so I can't lose him.  In the wound menu it shows no injuries, but hungry and dehydrated.  any idea what might be wrong with him?

I have a miner who went and got himself possessed.  He took over a mason's workshop.  He collected 3 olivine chunks, 2 cave lobster shells, 1 logs, 1 nickel silver bars, 1 rough faint yellow diamond.  He is now sitting in the Workshop muttering "Sheddasnast."  Anyone have an idea what the hell he is talking about?

Thanks, that was totally it.  I turned that on and they got all the stone.  One of my dwarves went to pick up a bolt my hunter left somewhere and got himself killed though.  One does need to be careful in doing this.

I recently dug myself a 3z deep pit for an underground outside refuse pit.  I started on the ground level, marked out an area as ramps, waited for miners to finish ramps, removed ramps.  I then repeated this for the next 2 floors to get to the level I wanted.  I then had the miners dig over to connect the room to the rest of the floor.  I now want to clear all of the stone out of the room so that one half can be refuse and the other half a statue garden. zoo or something else pleasant.  I marked all the stone for dumping (d-b-d)  My dwarves cleaned all of the stone out of the hallway they made at the end, but no one will touch the stone in my pit. 

Some of the tiles have one stone and some have two (not sure if this makes a difference.)  Any ideas what is going wrong?  Is my problem that the stone is all considered outside?

oh, that was it.  it must have been because I used the custom settings when I designated the stockpiles.  Thanks for the tip.  That was driving me crazy.

My dwarves stopped storing food in barrels.  I have plenty of empty barrels and there is space available in food stockpiles.  any reason why they would suddenly stop putting food into them?  I'm starting to get flies.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / my first magma dump site

I'm in the process of making my first magma dump site and I want to make sure it is done right.  I dug out a little 3x3 room directly above a large pool of magma.  From what I could find here, it sounds like what I do next is channel a single hole and put a single designated dump spot right next to it.  Is this the correct way of doing this?  Will fire imps be able to fly up through the hole?

somehow a rotten dog meat roast got on top of a bed in my barracks and is causing clouds of miasma.  i can't figure out how to remove it.  I tried designating it for dumping it.  That didn't work.  I removed the bed.  I un-designated the room as a barracks.  There is plenty of room in my refuse pile.  Any ideas on why this can't be moved?

Is there an issue with having more than one chair to a table?  In my dining room I have 4 tables with 4 chairs at each.  (first fortress)

I got a little confused looking at the DF Wiki armor section. 

1.  what is the difference between a cap and a helm?  In the metal column, it lists caps as leather and helms as chain.  Does this mean that if I make a steel cap, it turns out leather? 

2.  Is there a difference between low boots and high boots besides weight?
 
3.  In the block column, it shows the same block value for socks as either type of boot.  Does this mean that a leather sock has the same armoring value as a leather boot?

4.  Further down it states that it takes 8 metal bars to make a full set of plate armor.  It says that plate armor and plate greaves each take 3 bars to make.  What is the 3rd plate item then?

I have seen my champions a few times in one of the assigned bedrooms.  The times I noticed this were because I saw someone taking water to them.  Upon examination I found them to be hurt.  I guess I didn't know if that meant that they were dragged there as a random hospital type room or if these rooms were still used by them.

Do soldiers ever need their own rooms?  I was looking at my housing situation and noticed that I never freed up the rooms that originally belonged to what are now my 5 soldiers.  I have them trained well and all 5 are legendary.  I also have 6 guards and 10 recruits that will soon be finished with the screw pump gym.  Do any of them need rooms, or do I just need one huge barracks?
