If anyone still actually reads this thread...
First, listen to Inside the Fire (Disturbed).
Second, listen to this youtube interview. A bit boring, but worth it.
Third, listen to the song again, this time with lyrics.
I liked the band before, now I actually understand some of the lyrics and know how good they are, I practically worship them.
Next in line are Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell, Trivium and In Flames. You might find Trivium not that great, but it's them who got me into metal in the first place.
Oh, and I listen to Eminem, the Levellers and various other non-metal music as well.
