Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to a forum game without happy ending.

Fiasco is inspired by cinematic tales of small-time capers gone disastrously wrong – particularly films like Blood Simple, Fargo, The Way of the Gun, Burn After Reading, and A Simple Plan. You’ll play ordinary people with powerful ambition and poor impulse control. There will be big dreams and flawed execution. It won’t go well for them, to put it mildly, and in the end it will probably collapse into a glorious heap of jealousy, murder, and recrimination. Lives and reputations will be lost, painful wisdom will be gained, and if you are really lucky, your guy just might end up back where he started.

Note: the game uses almost exactly the same structure as its pen-and-paper counterpart. I believe it will work better if the players do not know the rules before we need them, though I can't stop you from looking them up.

Still interested? Good. Here are the sign up rules.

DF General Discussion / Re: Fan art competition! *Moving sound*

yes but i think it was originally done for eve.
Which doesn't really make sense. Unless you count keeping administration in excel sheets as a "Gaming skill".
I don't know about eve, but you could say the same for Aurora, and it's still one of the hardest games I know.

I must say, the new class pages are great! Must've taken quite some time.

Time for something a little different, I need help finding a board game.

Huh, almost but not-quite Talisman.  What with the individual home castles, definitely not.  Otherwise, it would be a ringer.  Are you sure you're not confusing multiple games?  (various Talisman versions compared here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPqiEOqLZvA )

No chance it was Dragon Strike?  http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1149/dragon-strike

No it's definitely not Talisman and the other one doesn't look right either. I am certain this is just one game (I have only ever owned the one fantasy board game and the only other ones I have played have been much too recent for me to have forgotten them :p).

There are a few more things that I remember about the game from looking at the Dragon Strike one you suggested.

1) The game had a single solid gameboard (No assembly required.)
2) The only miniatures were the player pieces, and as mentioned they were solid tin/pewter.
3) Your health (I think) was represented by small round black markers and your money by small round yellow ones.
4) There were no dungeons or anything like that, just the overworld map.
5) I am fairly certain the castle to the lowest right of the game board was in a swamp. I remember because it always prompted "I built a castle in the swamp"-jokes.

I really want it back now that I am at Uni and actually have a group of people willing to get into the rules for a game like this, my family tried a couple times but I think we only ever finished the game one time because someone always got bored, then when I moved away my father gave it away to some kid next doors (who's family has since moved.) since he didn't think it would ever be used... And yeah I have tried asking my father but he can't remember the name either.

EDIT: All this searching reminds me I have to get my board game group to invest in Shadows over Camelot.

Boardgamegeek.com suggests Kalahen.

"The aim of this game is to find a formula, which consists of 3 parchment sheets, and bring them back to your own castle, where a dragon awaits you. To make being successful in battle against different monsters or other players easier, you need to collect money, equipment and magic rings."

355
I might find a way for people who don't make it into the game or don't have time to join to participate in some small way. I'm considering it.
Will you let us know when you're done considering it either way?

I use my pointer, middle, and ring finger for the movement keys.  Tried your way, and it puts my hand at a weird angle.  Ughh.

Same here, always thought it makes sense, using the three strongest/most dexterous fingers for the buttons you'll use most...

Something that worked on my nerves recently:
Friendlies are worse than bad guys.
Especially on higher difficulties, some games seem to ramp up the challenge by making your allies worse, or by only improving enemies. Examples include SW Battlefront 2, where your friends make no effort of getting checkpoints or objectives while your opponents posses a hive mind, absolute tactical mastership and x-ray vision. Also Mount and Blade - in a recent battle between a handful of low-level archers and my company of battle-hardened veterans, a lucky arrow knocked me off my horse. The five or so remaining enemies proceeded to wipe the floor with the rest of my army.

(In many games, the opposite is true, but this has an acceptable explanation way more often. Plus, it doesn't result in me losing hours of progress.)

*Sigh* Sessions at 4am in the middle of my working week? You Americans and your silly time zones...

Huh. Cultist-Conjurer sounds like fun...

I'd play this. Probably as a conjurer. Maybe druid.
