I remember embarking on a major river, it had like 50 hippos in it.

Within a year, I was getting 'hippo has given birth' messages...  The hippo population kept TRIPLING!

Sneaking around in a gobbo fort, I found a Demon.  He charges at me, first yelling about all the other people he's killed.  I toss a green glass scimitar at him (my game is modded to use glass for weaponry, along with gold, silver, and platinum) and it lops his head right off.  Then a goblin archer puts 3 bolts in me as I run at him and bash his head in, and I died a few steps later.

I thought it was funny.

I had a Dwarf who had his arm broken in combat, (yellow wound) and about ten seconds later he was healed.  No season change, and I checked every single one of my military Dwarves just to be sure.

Glitch or not, he's awesome.

I modded my game to include 'Beard' as an actual body part for Dwarves.

Turning up volcanism like that causes a lot more rejects than just turning up the minimum number of volcanoes.

Are you sure?  Because I haven't had a migrant wave in a while due to a low pop cap, but I just had the Dungeon Master show up all by himself recently.

If I cap my population, my Dwarves will still have children.  If I keep the pop cap on, and just wait for them to have tons of lil Dwarf babies, will it trigger the arrival of nobles?  Or do they need to come with migrant waves?

I'd say magma.  It's used for defense / killing things, powering your workshops and glass industry...  Underground rivers and pools are good for making waterfalls, tower cap farms, and if you feel like killing a bunch of lizardmen.

Also, I keep my FPS capped at 500.  I pause the game as soon as it's started, and I plan out a few entire floors to be mined, so I want that to go as fast as possible, along with the stone dumping afterwards...

My magma pipe doesn't reach the surface, and all the imps were met and killed in an underground tunnel.

I didn't mess with the max temperature that I'm aware of...
