Do you have enough population for a megabeast attack? And are goblins at peace with you?

Actually yeah.  We get upwards of 400 Dwarves people in nightly, no Dragons have shown up yet sadly...  And if by Goblins you mean horribly drunken bowlers, then yes.  They are usually at peace.

Aside from the occasional fight or robbery.

DF Modding / How easy would this be?

To mod every single soil and rock layer to be Adamantine?

I guess there would have to be several types of it, to allow plants and trees to grow on one, and another to collect sand off of, but would it be possible to just mod all rocks into Adamantine?

And if I do this, would other civs start showing up with Adamantine equipment and goods?

Funny thing about the bowling alley and Dwarf Fortress.

There's about 8 stray cats living behind the parking lot.

I'm a mechanic.

Does the bowling alley have its own miner or does it trade you the stone needed to do your job?

We trade for metal bars!

you just gave me the image of Aspgren in mismatched socks screaming "a vile force of darkness has arrived!" as customers enter the alley and are struck by +bowling balls+.

I really wish that would happen.

I have the odd urge to flood my bowling alley with magma now.  Where can I find a volcano?

In a usual 8 hour shift, I'll do about 1 hour of work, and 7 hours of Dwarf Fortress / TV / Movies / etc etc.

I love my job ;D

Security, software, or mid-level management?  ;D

None of those, sadly.

I'm a mechanic.

I embarked on a Goblin fort.  My Dwarves started at the top floor of a tower.  I decided that the fastest way to get to ground level was to mine out the floor below us, and ride the roof downwards!  It's faster than stairs, anyway.

Dwarves starting to mine...

The unlucky miner chosen to mine out the last staircase.

WHUMP!  Down they go!

Well that punched some nice holes into the fort.  Killed tons of stuff too, including some of my own Miners.

I shall call that, the 'Dwarven Elevator'

I'm afraid there are no buildings in a traditional elven forest retreat. You can always pave the sky though.

And I want to work where you work.

Yeah, I just figured that out, I had never embarked there before.  I settled for digging a massive 2 level hole in the ground, draining a lake into it, then dropping the Elves in there.  I'll upload the pics later, right now I'm trying to mine out a Goblin fort.

Also, I work at a bowling alley as a mechanic.  So, I'm only required to do actual work when something is broken and needs fixing.  When nothing is broken, well it's DF time.

In a usual 8 hour shift, I'll do about 1 hour of work, and 7 hours of Dwarf Fortress / TV / Movies / etc etc.

I love my job ;D

I brought my laptop to work, and Embarked upon a massive Human town.
I struck the Earth in such a way that I collapsed several large buildlings and killed about half the population.

Building 1 - By far, the largest structure.  Had about half the population either in the building, or up on the roof.  I removed all of the walls on the first floor.  Behold the massive dust cloud as all three stories collapse into one.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The smoke starts to clear...  Look at all the corpses and Limestone blocks!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And the aftermath.  Dozens of dead and horribly mangled humans.  And THOUSANDS of Limestone blocks piled on each other.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Let's take a look at the casualties!

OH THE HUMANITY
Does that make me a bad person?

On to building number 2!  Some type of shrine, or something.  A seemingly pointless building.
Behold as I mine out the last support... The innocent humans standing by.

NO NOT ODDOM
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The building is collapsing, sending more Limestone blocks everywhere!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And the aftermath, a few dead humans, hundreds of blocks again everywhere.  And an unhappy miner.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And the last building, a 4 story house.  Has several humans, and tons of furniture and food inside.  Note the human archer sitting idly as I channel out the Earth from around his home..
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It collapses into the cavern below!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

WOOD FLIES EVERYWHERE
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And the aftermath.  Tons of logs, a bunch of equipment and food, and some corpses under said logs.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

At the end, I had about 4000 Limestone blocks, and a few hundred logs.

Next up, an Elven forest retreat.  Will post results later  :)

wait...

can we harvest souls?

Can we collect them from dying creatures and use them to MAKE stuff?

*dreams*

That would be awesome!

This is a War Hammer made from the essence of a moaning horde of damned souls.  All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It menaces with spikes of Microcline.

Well still suspect is that he actually drank the sand, or was he sitting there with a hand full of bag wondering how to pick up some booze?

This is what I thought was happening, that 'Drink' was displayed as his labor and he would go drink some booze after he was gathering the sand.  But as soon as he walked away, 'Drink' was gone, and instead he was storing stuff in stockpiles.  I watched him for a bit, he didn't have a drink for quite a while afterwards.

And I'm sure that he had no booze in his inventory either, unless it was somehow in the pig tail bag, which I think is impossible.

Maybe he wanted to drink, but wasn't thirsty enough, and got distracted by something?

Either way, what's the best way I could try to recreate this?

This is too good to be true.

Hmm.

Dwarves drinking SAND is good?

Actually, I guess it means I can never run out of drinks...

I embarked on a site once, two seconds in, I hear AN AMBUSH!  CURSE THEM! as a GCS is right next to my 7 starting Dwarves.

It rips 3 of them in half while the others run, it kills all of my dogs, but it's injured at this point.  I send my miners with their picks after it, they both die.

Two dwarves left, and they're both unhappy.  I decided to abandon.

I had a trio of Armorers get into moods....  This is looking to be my favorite fort so far! :)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I can't wait for one of my Dwarves to hit Champion so I can equip him with all 3.

I'm hoping for my Weaponsmith and 4th Armorsmith to get into a mood soon.

Urist McSandDrinker: Damn, it was a mirage.

But really, your dwarves drink sand now?

Apparently this one does.  I'm going to assume it was some kind of bug, rather than an insane Dwarf.  But you really can't tell the difference.

I had a Dwarf gathering sand into a pig tail bag the other day.  I pressed v to view him, I felt like checking what skills the Peasant had.

And get this, even though the Peasant was in a large room of sand, next to a Glass Furnace, gathering sand, it said he was DRINKING.

So I thought perhaps I paused the game right as he was done gathering sand, and was going to go get a drink now.

But nope, I unpaused the game, and watched him sit there with his bag of sand.  After a few seconds, I guess he was done drinking it, cause he takes the bag of yellow sand back to the stockpile, and proceeds to get another bag for more gathering.  He never went to the booze stockpile.

And according to his thoughts, it was delicious sand.
