DF General Discussion / Re: Dfterm, Dwarf Fortress in a terminal

Currently hosting a game. dfterm.servegame.org:43722

This is on my server, so it should be running 24/7 if anybody wants to jump in and play.
I just get "connection timed out"...
Edit: Saw your error message. I assume that's why I can't conect.
Yeah, it is a little FUBAR at the moment. you can connect, but you don't get chat or anything. Kind of pointless.

I played it over a VPN link over DSL and as everybody has made mention: No differance between the loading of the world and runtimes. I don't think that DF touches the disk unless saving.

Still fails to show the game, with any memory setting. I am going to try disabling UAC to see if that helps, because running as administrator did not.

Windows7 64-bit

I get no display of the game on a stock 19.2 install. I copied over the sdl like the readme says, and ran putty with UTF-8 and changed no other options.

I can chat just fine.

There was something like this previously where people used Hamachi to access the private server. Seeing as how it means nothing to bandwidth, then I might be able to host it. I just don't know if Windows Home Server likes Hamachi...

You know, you don't have to comment to subscribe to a thread... you can click on the 'notify' button at the top and bottom of the thread.

DF General Discussion / Re: How do you cheat? If at all?

I posted in the modding section on how I cheat.

http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=50247.0

Basically, just so I start off with more stuff. I use this when I start off somewhere where I know there will be limited resources of if I want to start a megaproject off quickly.

The easy way to tweak points and number of starting dwarves without dancing around a fire:
DF Tweak utility.
Yes, but that works for one version--until someone hacks in support for other versions.

This will work with any version, as soon as it is released.

42
Do you know if there is any way change the amount of starting dwarves from say 7 to 4?
No, I don't... I think that is hardcoded into the game. the way I do it is basically make a walled in place and recruit them into the military and lock the door with them inside. Crude, but effective. That, or using a dwarven atom smasher to get the job done quickly.

DF Modding / How to get a bunch of stuff on embark in any version of DF.

First, watch the video. It explains a lot.

Let me know if anything is unclear, and I will reply back with an answer.

There is nothing amazing in Bioshock2. Good game, but I played it twice (got both endings (save all, harvest all)) and that was that.

DF? There is never anything the same. And want to know the best part? In a few short [units of time] we will have DF2010 which is going to CHANGE THE GAME ALL OVER AGAIN.

We all get to learn ALL new things. The game that was never the same, will forever be even LESS the same once DF2010 is released.

my mistake, it's not water it was magma... but this was the video i was referring to:

http://mkv25.net/dfma/movie-1931-theultimatelavatrap

i have something very similar that uses water, only for the sake of i usually forget and use one non-bauxite mechanism or whatever and it would melt.

I get most of the idea behind the trap, but what are the middle row supports? I didn't recognize the image? How was it done?
You can see the map here, and it is kind of self explanatory...
