DF Modding / Re: Relentless Assault (ver 1.0 up)

My current fort follows this guy. It is also giving me a besieged ant hill feel with armies coming at me from all sides climbing up a hill to my entrance. just waiting for the DM to show so I can tame all these Unicorns the elves brought me.

I like the staggered manner of the sieges, it keeps you from being prepared for your seasonal siege. you don't know when or who is going to show up when. My only annoyance is that the Frogs break and run so fast. it might be that half there number is unconscious in 3 seconds. you know what i like them. and wish my first fort had lasted long enough to see them come with greater numbers.

Long skinny with the Relentless Assault mod(ish) sounds awesome. especially if we can force an enemy to navigate the entire length of the map to reach the Fortress proper.

Plus its so much fun fighting Frogmen sieges with a single champion. its like a green red explosion!

I decided to take the different approach with this mod then what I usualy do and made all extra dwarfs into a single massive unit and had them train like crazy in a massive barracks. Unit is 25 strong (2/3 of the forts pop) and the Kobolds show up, my first ambush. I raise the front bridge and take care of the one that made it in, sadly not in time for my Guard Muskox. and then open my "War Gate" a narrow bottleneck that goes from the bottom of the mountain all the way up to the barracks. I send the command to stand at the ready in the barracks and then I see two soldiers headed down to the bottom of the "War Gate". then the anouncement An Ambush! their leader is right there next to the channel that supplies my well and the two soldiers attack and drag 5 kobolds into the chanel with them including the boss. everyone drowns.

then a year later my first siege, Frogers. I send out my full force now with a few champions and they quickly dispach the foe. then a caravan comes... and a Lizzy seige. I got the caravan in at the cost of all but two of the fighting force. and then tantrum. a Berzerk Mason uses the bottleneck of the "War Gate" to kill seven civilians before the one remaining guard and two soldiers finish him. My embark leader goes melancholy and locks himself in with the tame NMD(droped in the 1x1 pit lol), and his wife goes stark raving mad just after I have her dig through the back of their bedroom to the bottomless pit that was right behind it.

its amazingly fun because currently the only thing interrupting her screams are announcements of weddings and parties!

I have a member of my starting seven that I used to clear out a mean patch of Naked mole dogs to ensure the safety of my early fort, he does it and then I send him off to kill off all the bat men because they killed 2 of my 3 cats. he does this with ease then wham, he walks through a group of mole dogs without paying attention one of them attacks and nearly kills him. He is rescued and sent to bed rest.

It has been one year since that day almost to the letter and I get this.

now there is still one free naked mole dog on the map curently living in fear far far away from my impenetrable fortress, what could have caused this? besides a horrible nightmare where he was being set upon by 636 NMDs.

Edit: well now this is some kind of nightmare, it didnt actualy stop at 636, it is now at 3350 and counting

The game suffers the same issue with embarking on enemy civs makes them friendly. and I think Giant Brutes are megabeasts or at least semi mega, so ya that's normal.

DF kobolds are whatever the fuck I want them to be, which in this case happens to be the same as what every other major fantasy publication happens to describe them as, and that happens to be anthropomorphic dogs.  No amount of retarded 4chan pictures will change that.

So Dungeons & Dragons ceases to be a "major fantasy publication", now?

I'd be more willing to accept that if not for the near certainty that your "major fantasy publication" is WoW.
Oh snap I hadn't noticed he also dissed the Cutebolds! They are not retarded... well ok maybe they are "special needs", but that's what kobolds are anyway.

But back on topic, I'm going to go through the raws over the next couple of days and try and streamline my copy* and try and make them as close to proper kobolds as is possible. I was wondering is there a way to deny certain reactions to a civ without removing the reaction from "reaction_standard"? Would removing reactions for steal and Iron lead to no one else having those metals?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Best Undead creture you've encountered

I think thats why he was so shocked, because it was just a jaw chomping on his dwarves.

My favorite was a tiny haunted mountain that had a spawn for zombie hoary marmots. i sent my troops to train the weapon skills on them, it was safer then whack-a-mole.

my less fun was a skeletal troll that slid past my defenses when I wasn't looking and made his way unnoticed to the dining hall... basically fort ended.

In one of the bloats or powergoals he states that they "..aren't dog people or mini draconians but a sort of Mamoreptillian Humanoids..". I cant remember which one it is. It really should be in the DF wiki, that would end all the confusion.

that being said, its a fantasy game with ambiguous body system (Until next release) and you can picture them any way you want in your own head. just remember that DF has its own variety, and is not a generic Fantasy sim.

My favorite dipictions are the ones in the Fan art competition in General Discussion.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: So my dwarf Katie had another baby...
« on: October 24, 2009, 09:18:16 am »
i had one baby live its childhood in 4/7 water before. Funnel shaped reservoir to later flood the underworld once I dug it out and an access tunnel to other reservoirs  conected to it. Mom drops her baby after a dangerous terain message and the little guy crawls half way down the flooded access tunnel. no one can reach him. (cancel spam was horrible) and baby wouldn't drown!

Remember DF kobolds aren't dogs, they are komodo dragon/monkeys. or whatever Reptomamilian (Mamoreptilian?) means.

The problem with changing their primary to bite is they will probably lead with their face in combat, and being of a similar durability to paper...

The Camp has hit a snag, at least in the terms of me starting it, school has gotten extra crazy as can be seen by me posting this at 2am :-\
